Man's spirituality naturally deteriorates over time without effort to maintain or improve it. According to the Quran, man is in a constant state of loss from birth to death. This loss refers not just to material things but a decline in spirituality as well. The only way to prevent this decline is by practicing good deeds oneself and encouraging others to follow the truth and be patient. Spirituality must be strengthened through consistent worship and advising others to do the same in order to arrest the natural deterioration that occurs without effort.

When facing tough times, it is important to remember that overcoming obstacles builds strength, wisdom and perseverance, and frustrations will transform into motivations leading to quicker success.
Tawhid - Benefits for Humanity

Wealth and Prestige
The prophet explained that a person's eagerness for wealth and prestige can damage their religion as much as two hungry wolves damaging a flock of sheep. When a person's faith is strong, they will not be anxious to accumulate wealth or status, as nothing will be dearer to them than their servitude to God. The document urges people to remember this hadith when they sacrifice religious duties for worldly gains or busy schedules prevent them from praying, and to not let their careers distract them from their family responsibilities and preparation for the afterlife.
Debt

It's wise to remain balanced in relationships as people and circumstances change.
Kindness
Kindness means recognizing our power over others and choosing to help rather than hurt them. It requires empathy to understand others' experiences and know how to make them feel good. Kindness builds confidence by seeing others' humanity rather than putting them on pedestals. While kindness is not given expecting repayment, it often inspires others to also act with kindness which spreads goodwill more broadly.
Surat Al-Asr
This surah discusses the essence of the Quranic message according to several Islamic scholars and exegetes. It emphasizes that humans are inherently prone to loss, but can avoid ruin by having faith, doing righteous deeds, and enjoining one another to truth and patience. Several scholars note that this surah provides a complete system for life and defines the basic concept of faith. It is seen as concise yet profoundly guiding humanity. Early Muslims were greatly influenced by its message to change the world through zeal and work for human salvation.
Surat Al-Mursalat
1) The document discusses two kinds of emissaries - the winds and the angels.
2) A message is being spread of justification or warning regarding what has been promised will occur.
3) On the Day of Sorting out, when the stars become dim, the mountains are scattered, and the apostles are appointed a time, it will be a day of woe for the rejecters of truth. Their judgment, creation of the earth, and ability to speak or plot against Allah will be affected. The doers of good will be rewarded amid shades and springs of water, eating and drinking to their hearts' content for their righteous works.
Contentment
Contentment means embracing satisfaction and sufficiency with what one has rather than envy or longing for more. It allows one to find pleasure in life's simple offerings and see the cup as half full. Although influenced by circumstances, contentment is an internal attitude that can be cultivated to find riches amid poverty and marvels in dire conditions, as it is closely related to gratitude and wonder. The Prophet said true richness lies not in abundance but in the richness of one's soul.
The Status and Importance of Bismillah

3. Knowledge will protect its holder while wealth must be guarded.
He emphasized that knowledge is a more virtuous and lasting possession than temporary wealth.
Compassion
Compassion is a capacity within humans to be affected by another's suffering as though it were our own. It reveals our shared humanity across all people and religions. Compassion acknowledges our common hopes and struggles, and motivates us to help those in need without consideration of social barriers. Islam teaches Muslims to develop empathy, give help to others in times of need, and act with compassion, as the Prophet said roughness disgraces while compassion is loved by Allah.
Humility
Humility means understanding that others' experiences are as important as our own and recognizing our limitations. It involves seeing both our own faults and the strengths in others, acknowledging what we have been given and recognizing how little we truly know. Humility opens us to growth, love, and treating all people justly by not feeling superior or committing injustice against another.
Repentance
Repentance involves feeling shame for wrongdoings and making amends. When repenting, one turns away from old harmful behaviors and commits to better actions. Without remorse or repentance, growth is impossible as we are doomed to repeat mistakes if we cannot see errors and the harm caused. Repentance does not require self-loathing, but abandoning the former behaviors or attitudes. When overly focused on self-criticism, there is less energy for repairing harm caused. Repentance is easier when recognizing everyone sins and cherishing understanding and grace.
Integrity
Integrity means being honest, upright, and keeping one's word. It requires internal honesty and self-awareness to accurately communicate with others. People of integrity can be trusted to do what is right even when unpopular and maintain their commitments. For Muslims, integrity is especially important as it means honoring what has been entrusted to them and fulfilling their promises, as encouraged by Islam. The Prophet Muhammad said that those with four traits of lying, breaking promises, betraying covenants, and quarreling in an imprudent manner have traits of hypocrisy.
Types of Heart
The document discusses three types of hearts:
1. The healthy heart is cleansed from passions that contradict Allah's commands and seeks judgement only from Allah and his messenger. It exclusively serves Allah willingly.
2. The dead heart does not know or worship Allah as commanded and instead clings to lusts and desires. It worships things other than Allah.
3. The sick heart has both life (faith in Allah) and illness (cravings for lust). It follows whichever (faith or cravings) dominates it at a given time.

King Hakam II saw a beautiful piece of land belonging to an old widow and had her evicted so he could build a large palace. The widow sought help from the judge. When the palace was complete, the judge arrived at the celebration with two empty sacks and asked the king for favors. The first was to fill the sacks with soil from the palace garden, which the king agreed to. However, the king was unable to lift the heavy sacks, showing he could not bear the burden of the land on Judgment Day for unlawfully taking it. The king realized his mistake and returned the land to the widow.
Painfully Tormented
The document summarizes three hadiths describing people who will face painful torment from Allah on the Day of Judgment. The hadiths describe those who: 1) Let their clothes drag below their ankles, take oaths to falsely increase prices, or remind others of favors; 2) Lie about goods for sale or take wealth through false oaths; 3) Commit adultery as an old man, lie as a king, or are arrogant while poor. This hadith discusses three types of men that the Prophet Muhammad took an oath about: [1] Men whose wealth is not reduced by charity, as spending in the way of Allah replenishes wealth. [2] Men who are honored by Allah for showing patience in the face of oppression rather than retaliation. [3] Men who open themselves to begging and poverty by stretching out their hands to others rather than depending on Allah.
Know What is Best for You
The document discusses relying on your own inner judgment rather than taking advice from others. It recommends depending on your intuition to stay on the right track for what is best for you, as others may not share your values. Even if things don't work out, having followed your inner guidance means you did what you felt was best for yourself, which is always the right thing to do. A hadith is also cited advising to ask yourself and your heart for a decision three times and to leave matters that cause doubt for those that don't cause doubt.
Moral Authority

True influence and leadership is gained by borrowing strength from others rather than one's own position.
In Need of Allah

If a believer thinks they no longer need to beseech or worship Allah, they have become deluded. Spiritual Decline
- 2. Man naturally deteriorates in spirituality over time. This is because no effort is required for this to happen. When a person is not doing any good, he falls into this state of decline. It is not that a person sins then a person becomes bad and only then declines in spirituality. Rather, if a person does not do anything, neither good nor bad, then a person’s spirituality will still deteriorate and will naturally fall and become more and more distant from Allah SWT Sinning only increases the rate of deterioration.

In Surah al Asr, Allah SWT swears upon time: َ َ ِْ َْ َ والعصْ ر ِإنَّ اْلنسان لَفِي خسْ ر ُ ”By time Indeed man is in a great and constant state of loss“ [Surah al Asr 103:1-2] The translation for this ayah is not just that man is in a great state of loss but that man is in a great and perpetual, recurring state of loss. This means man is in a state of loss for every moment of his existence. This is not just a simple loss but a great loss indeed because for every moment of his existence from the time of birth to the time of death man deteriorates.
- 4. ِ َّ ِ َ َ َ ِّ َ ْ ِ ْ َ َ َ ِ َ اّل الَّذِين آمنوا وعملُوا الصَّالِحات و َتواصوا بالحق و َتواص ْوا بالصبْر ِ َ َ َُ َ َّ Except those who practice good deeds and who counsel one another to the truth and patience. [Surah al Asr 103:3] The only way to arrest this natural decline is by practicing and preaching good deeds which in turn strengthen imaan (faith). This ensures a rise in spirituality and checks the decline.
- 5. Always remember that spirituality can easily be lost - climbing is difficult but falling is easy. Consolidate what you have i.e. fardh and sunnah acts of ibadah and take things slowly with patience and perseverance.
