1. Painfully Tormented

2. The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “There are
three to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of
Resurrection, and He will not look at them or
praise them, and theirs will be a painful torment.”
Abu Dharr (ra) asked: “O Messenger of Allah, who
are they? They are indeed lost and doomed.” The
Messenger of Allah repeated that three times,
then said: “The one who lets his garment hang
down below his ankles (isbaal); the one who sells
his goods by means of false oaths; and the one
who reminds others of his favours.”

3. All three of these sins are unfortunately not considered
significant by many who claim to worship Allah (SWT),
love His Messenger Muhammad (saws), and fear the
Day of Judgement.
To avoid the torment of the Day of Judgement:
1. Men should be careful not to let their clothes hang
below their ankles.
2. We should be extremely careful not to utter a single
untruth when selling something, the less said the better.
3. We must resist the temptation of reminding someone
of our favours on them. This usually occurs when one
gets into a disagreement with the recipient or feels
cheated by them.

4. The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “There are three
to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of
Resurrection, and He will not look at them; a man
who swears an oath about his goods for sale, saying
that he has been offered more for them than he is
being offered, and he is lying; a man who swears a
false oath after Asr in order to take a Muslim’s wealth
wrongfully; and a man who withholds his surplus
water. Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection,
‘Today I will deprive you of My bounty, just as you
deprived others of the bounty of things that you did
not make.’”

5. The first two cases of people punished by Allah are those
involved in deception in order to sell their ware. The first type
says that he was offered more than he was in reality, so he can
raise the price of the article he is selling. The second type of
man sees the day coming to an end (it being Asr time) and
wishes to make a sale before returning home, and so lies about
his ware to sell it any way he can.
This hadith doesn’t just apply to petty shopkeepers and
vendors but also high profile businesses and advertising
agencies. The amount of lying in advertising is scary!
Each person should stop in their tracks and think about the
things they may have sold at some point in their lives and how
they sold them.
The third person deserving Allah’s wrath is he who refuses to
allow others to benefit from water that is excess to his needs.
Such misers don’t warrant anything but miserly treatment
themselves.

6. The Messenger of Allah (saws) said:
“There are three to whom Allah will not
speak on the Day of Resurrection, and He
will not praise them or look at them, and
theirs will be a painful torment; an old man
who commits zina (adultery), a king who
tells lies, and a poor man who is arrogant.”
[Saheeh Muslim]

7. What all these three types of people have in common is that they
are committing sins for which the impulse is insufficient. Their
indulging in these sins despite their condition shows their evilness:
1. An old man does not have the drive that a young man does. If
he still commits adultery it shows his total lack of concern for
Allah’s limits. His punishment will then also be exemplary.
2. A person usually lies when he considers himself weak. If he is a
king and yet lies, despite the power and authority at his disposal, it
shows his indifference to commit to righteous behaviour.
3. Although no human being has any right to arrogance but a poor
man does not even have the apparent justification to haughtiness.
If he is still arrogant then again this is a sin that cannot be easily
forgiven.

8. The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “There
are three at whom Allah will not look on the
Day of Resurrection; the one who disobeys
his parents, the woman who imitates men,
and the duyooth (man who has no
protective jealousy towards his
womenfolk).”

9. Unfortunately, all three are common vices in the decadent
society that we are a part of.
But I am in charge of my life and my deeds. What am I
doing?

10. May Allah (SWT) help us to identify our sins,
mend our ways, and save us from His punishment.
