 X having a history of more than 1000 years, seems to
have originated in Mongolia and the Jin Dynasty where
the main ingredient was meat, usually beef, mutton or
horse, noodle. It then spread to southern China during
the Song Dynasty and was further established during
the Mongolian Yuan Dynasty.
 The earliest Mongolian X simply held water. One of the
most famous variations is the Chongqing X, to which
Sichuan pepper is added.
 Today, families and friends throughout Asia still gather
around steaming X to celebrate, socialize, and escape
from the winter chill. Like a backyard barbecue, X is
much a social event as is an excuse to fire up the
charcoal.

a man that is believed by some Christians to be the
burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth.
Three radiocarbon dating tests in 1988 have
concluded that the age of the cloth only goes back

 Fernando Patolsky, chemistry professor at Tel Aviv

gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB).

World prohibit women from wearing western clothes,

 However, a certain group of around 500 women (40 at
any given point of time) were exempt from these
restrictions for a period of around 3 decades starting

distracted by their appearance, leaving them less likely
to be attacked. All of them, however, are made to take
an oath after a 3-year course in a government
institution.
 These women however lost their job in 2011 which was
a blessing in disguise for them.

social practise.

which has been quoted at a base price of 1 million and
has been put on display at Maddox Gallery in Mayfair,

 Baumkuchen is a German variety of spit cake. It is
a traditional pastry of many European countries
throughout, and also a popular snack and dessert
in Japan.
 The origins of baumkuchen are a matter of
controversy. One theory claims that baumkuchen
has been created since at least the 19th century in
the German town of Salzwedel; however, the town
itself likes to propagate this story.

his world famous exploits in a certain profession in

 Confessed to be a hard task master who turns down
daily two new entrants, he also ran into “rough weather”

 Last September British Airways announced a maiden flight
to a certain British overseas territory which until then had
only British Royal Ship as one of the only means of
communication .
 It was made famous in the 19th century(almost mid)
because of its seclusion, it has been a subject of bilateral
diplomatic relations-with Britain willfully acceding a certain
house to a country(in 1858) that viewed it as a national
heritage.
 For 25 years it was used for a specific purpose.
 Give me the name of the British Territory and what pupose
did it serve ? The territory is also Britain’s second oldest
remaining overseas territory with the oldest being Bermuda.

 This building(image in next slide) was once audaciously
planned to be the site of Chelsea’s new home ground(at
least they could have got rid of their “rentboys” tags :P ).
 This building has been referenced multiple times in
music , movies and other media , most notably
appearing in the Pink Floyd’s 1977 album ANIMALS .
 Hitchcock’s “Sabotage” also opened with an image of
this building.
 But this 42-acre building is not used for the purpose it
was originally meant to and has been sold off to be
made into a complex which would consist of nearly 1300
apartments .
 So, give me the name of the building ( the next picture is

 First discovered by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance
Orbiter in 2010, it is believed that there are about 3200
of these cracks discovered in at least 75% of moon’s
surface.
 They are believed to be as young as 100 million years.
 On its own, such shrinkage would result in a random
distribution of cracks - but that's not what the
researchers discovered. "There is a pattern in the
orientations of the thousands of faults, and it suggests
something else is influencing their formation, something
that's also acting on a global scale," lead researcher
and Smithsonian scientist, John Watters, said in a press

School”.
 These became a huge popularity particularly during the

released on August 12th 2012.
When they posted a preview picture on Facebook,
fans voiced their strong opposition towards these
shoes. The ad for these shoes said, “Tighten up
your style with the JS Roundhouse Mids, dropping in
August. Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your
kicks to your ankles?”.
What made these shoes controversial?

The shoes had shackles which reminded people of
slavery.

 On the seabed off the coast of Lanzarote, British artist
Jason deCaires Taylor is creating an extraordinary
series of underwater artworks with concrete figures
representing desperate refugees. It is titled as Europe’s
first underwater sculpture museum.
 The images of the sculpture been thrown on to the
seabed bears stark similarity with an incident in the early
19th century best depicted by a painting of the same age
.
 The incident occurred around present day Mauritiana
and went on to become an international scandal, in part
because its cause was widely attributed to the
incompetence of the French captain.

was quite common for the prostitutes there to climb
up and offer their services to the men onboard.

half of the 19th century to a certain profession that used
arsenic for its purpose of mass transportation across

 Although Arsenic was banned in the 20th century still that
“profession” has caused enough damage to the soil whose
effect can still be felt.
 So what is the profession ? Or why did arsenic usage become
suddenly very popular at that point of time ?

 Embalming ..Arsenic was the chief embalming fluid
used during the civil war. IT prevented corpses from
decaying while they were being transported.

 If ever there was a Douglas Fairbanks of India it was Master
Vithal, a 20th century icon in the Mumbai who was known for
his swashbuckling stunts.
 First recognized in 1924, he joined the Sharada studio to hone
his skills further. However this association was punctured
when he was enticed by another project(1931)and was keen
to be a part of it at the expense of the existing contract.
 He was sued because of this sudden decision by the parent
company, because according to him he “was destined for
much greater things”. He was defended by a lawyer(also
labelled best Leagle Eagle in Bombay )who had also
embarked upon a stage career with a Shakesperean company
while he studied law in England.
 So what was the project ? Who was the lawyer who defended
him ?

 Earlier this year, The house of Lords decreed to stop a
certain practice for financial reasons. However the
cabinet has swooped in and has decided to pay the
money for the continuation of that practice .
 Critics have long called for a digitalized version but the
authorities have claimed that “this version” is more

path digital technology will take in the future. With this
we know at least where we are.”
 Animal Rights activists have also voiced their opinion
against the continuation of this practice .
 So what practice ? And why are the Animal Rights
activists suddenly involved ?

1998 Tamil film Jeans( a 1998 Indian Tamil romantic
comedy film written and directed by Shankar. The film

roles ). The song was written by the film's noted musical

security to be heightened in Paris and clearances to
shoot in and around the Eiffel Tower became tough to
