Voters across eight states approved ballot initiatives totaling over $376 million to fund transportation infrastructure projects in November 2010. Thirteen initiatives aimed to increase funding through bonds, taxes, or fees, while four were defeated. The initiatives approved funding for projects like a $120 million bond for Fairfax County, Virginia, a $90 million bond for Austin, Texas, and $80 million in bonds for Rhode Island. However, an initiative in Alabama to transfer $1 billion from the state rainy day fund for roads was defeated.
Voters across the nation again demonstrated they strongly support increased investment in
transportation improvements, approving 60 of 90 (67 percent) transportation-related initiatives that
were on the November ballot, according to a report from the American Road & Transportation Builders
Association’s Transportation Investment Advocacy Center (ARTBA-TIAC).
The measures will provide nearly $21 billion in additional in revenue for transportation projects, the
ARTBA-TIAC’s post-election analysis finds.
“These election results show, once again, the public wants our government to invest in our mobility and
safety and are willing to pay for it,” ARTBA President & CEO Pete Ruane said. “It doesn’t make a
difference whether it is a Republican- or Democratic-leaning state. The newly-elected Congress and the
White House must take note and do their job and permanently fix the Highway Trust Fund.
Transportation funding cannot remain frozen in the ice of political inertia and partisanship. The states
rely on federal funds for, on average, 52 percent of their highway and bridge capital investments.”
This is a PowerPoint presentation for the Louisiana Good Roads and Transportation Association. Its intent is to education Louisiana citizens about transportation funding, the current state of infrastructure and give them an appreciation of why we need to spend more money on transportation.

For decades, people have been saying that California’s today is every other state’s tomorrow. In this session, Mr. Bragg wil detail the many aspects that make California such a unique and often difficult place to operate and his business solutions. Among the topics touched upon will be environmental compliance, the tax structure, permitting with public agencies, and the litigious human resources environment.

For 30 years, SC&RA’s Specialized Transportation Symposium has focused on bringing together industry members and all levels of transportation and law enforcement officials to communicate and act on opportunities of mutual interest. That proud tradition continues throughout the afternoon, starting with this overview from some of the nations most respected regulatory and enforcement officials.
Hear what the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is doing to improve U.S. freight efficiency through regulatory consistency so that the nation maintains its competitive edge in the global economy. Find out why the Washington Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO) has earned high praise from the specialized transportation industry for listening and acting on harmonization of oversize/overweight (OS/OW) permitting practices. And listen as the President of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) covers OS/OW issues from a law enforcement standpoint.

More than 50 counties have agreed to place an advisory

Wisconsin Constitution should be amended to prohibit any further

Revenue in the segregated transportation fund comes from the
state gas tax and vehicle registration fees. In recent years more
than a billion dollars has been diverted from the transportation
fund to shore up the general fund.
Actually amending the state constitution would require action by
two successive state legislature sessions and voter approval of a
binding statewide referendum.
