Spanish i language fair
1. Spanish Language Fair Project options
Project 1 - Drama
This is a group project. Maximum 4 members per group. Each group will present a scene from Spanish
dramatic literature, or an original skit written solely by the group members. Skits must include props and
costumes. Scenes must be acted from memory and must be at least 5 minutes, but not exceed 10
(including set-up time). Scenes will be evaluated on the correct use of the Spanish, pronunciation, acting
ability, presentation, and observance of the time limit. A copy of the script must be submitted.
If you need suggestions of scenes from Spanish drama see Ms. Orbik.
Project 2 – Poster
This is an individual or pair project. You will design a poster to reflect this year’s theme: “You’re
Connected, NowCommunicate”. The maximum size for posters is 16 square feet. Posters will be
judged based on appropriateness to theme, correct and imaginative use of Spanish, and visual impact. The
poster should reflect the theme of this year’s Fair, but you do not need to incorporate it word for word. On
the lower right front or back corner of your poster you must attach a 3x5 card with the following
information: name of student(s), school, language, category (posters),name of teacher. All writing on the
poster must be in Spanish. You should submit a rough draft of what you will write on your poster to Ms.
Orbik before making your final poster.
Project 3 – Research Project
This is an individual or pair project. You will submit a project based on a Spanish-speaking culture.
You may choose your own project topic and format, but you must clear it with Ms. Orbik before
proceeding. Your project must display effort to present research on some aspect of the culture. Your
project should show that you have gained insight and understanding into that aspect of the culture.
Suggested topics include: food, architecture,fashion, trends in Spanish music, literature, etc. Projects will
be judged on attractiveness, detail, cultural appropriateness, and visible effort. You must attach a 3x5
card to your project with the following information: name of student(s), school, language, category
(posters), and name of teacher.
Project 4 – Craft
This is an individual or pair project. For this project you will make an original craft (other than
posters) that reflects a Spanish-speaking culture. Acceptable crafts include: handmade woodwork,
models, Spanish ornaments, knit or crochet items, embroidery, paper maché, etc. Before choosing your
craft you must get approval from Ms. Orbik. Craft items will be judged based on attractiveness,
originality, cultural appropriateness and visible effort. You must attach a 3x5 card to your craft with the
following information: name of student(s), school, language, category (posters), name of teacher.
Project 5 – Art
This is an individual project only! For this project you will submit an original work of art. Acceptable
forms include: paintings, drawings, collages (of photos) etc. This work of art should be your personal,
individual expression related to foreign language or culture. Work should be visually-based (it does not
need to include text). Artwork will be judged on attractiveness,originality, cultural appropriateness and
visible effort. You must attach a 3x5 card to your art piece with the following information: name of
student(s), school, language, category (posters), and name of teacher.
2. Spanish Language Fair Project options
Project 6 – Video
This is a group project only. Maximum of 5 members per group. Note: All group members must
participate equally in the video. You are to make a video that is entirely in Spanish with the group
members as the actors (or hosts, presenters etc). You must decide on a topic for your video, write a script,
and film and edit the video before submitting it. Only group members may help with the video (i.e. you
may not get help from students in other classes or anyone else). Stock footage may be used, but only
minimally. Your final product must be a disc that can be mailed to the fair ahead of time. Your video
will be judged on the correct use of Spanish, creativity, use of costumes and props, acting ability
(especially naturalness of the dialog) and visual impact. Your video must not exceed 5 minutes.
Project 7 – Costumes
This is an individual project only! For this project you will create (sew) an authentic-looking costume
that reflects the culture of a Spanish-speaking country. You must wear your costume and do a
presentation explaining how it reflects the culture of the country (when it’s worn, who wears it, etc.). The
foreign language fair allows participants to enter costumes they have purchased or borrowed, but these
usually don’t win and you may not do this for your project for my class. If you would like to enter a
borrowed or purchased costume in the fair you may do so, but it will NOT COUNT as your project for
my class.
Project 8 – Latin Dancing
This is a group project only! Maximum number of group members is yet to be announced by the fair,
but 6-8 should be good. I will provide additional information once it becomes available. For this project
you will learn and perform a traditional folk dance from a Spanish-speaking country. You should dress in
the traditional attire appropriate for the dance. You must provide your own music on a CD (no flash
drives!). Your performance will be graded on cultural accuracy,entertainment value, dancing ability,
evidence of rehearsaland time commitment, and costumes.
Project 9 – Music Solo
This is an individual project only! For this project you will sing a Spanish song that you have
memorized. The song must be an authentic Spanish song by an actual Spanish or Latin American artist. It
can be modern or traditional but it must be SPANISH! You may NOT choose an English song and
translate it into Spanish. You must provide the instrumental music that you will sing to on a CD (no flash
drives!) or you may play an instrument or have someone play an instrument to accompany you.
Instruments will NOT be provided so you must bring your own if you wish to use one. A CD player will
NOT be provided either. Your performance will be graded on vocal ability, Spanish pronunciation,
cultural appropriateness, evidence of rehearsaland time commitment, and entertainment value. Before
you begin your song you must give a short introduction IN SPANISH introducing yourself and the song
you will be singing.
Project 10 – Music Group
This is a group project only! Maximum number of group members is yet to be announced by the fair,
but around 5 or 6 should be good. I will provide additional information once it becomes available. For
this project you will memorize and perform a Spanish song by an actual Spanish or Latin American artist
or group. It can be modern or traditional but it must be SPANISH! You may NOT choose an English song
and translate it into Spanish. You must provide the instrumental music that your group will sing to on a
CD (no flash drives!) or you may have some of your group members play instruments. Instruments (and
CD player) will NOT be provided so you must bring your own if you wish to use any. Your group must
have at least 1 singer (preferably more). Performances will be graded on vocal ability, Spanish
3. Spanish Language Fair Project options
pronunciation, cultural appropriateness, entertainment value, evidence of rehearsaland time commitment,
and creativity (use of choreography etc).
Project 11 – Essay Writing
This is an individual project only! For this project you will write an original essay in Spanish that
reflects this year’s theme (“You’re Connected, NowCommunicate”). Essays must be entirely in
Spanish and must be written solely by the student. You may NOT receive help from the teacher,
translation apps, classmates,or any other sources! The length of the essay in yet to be announced by the
fair, but I will provide more details as soon as they become available. Essays must be typed and submitted
to the fair a few weeks in advance,so don’t wait until the last minute on this one! Essays will be graded
on creativity, grammar, use of vocabulary, visible effort and time commitment.
