Spam is unsolicited junk email that can contain viruses and be used for phishing attacks. It was first named in 1937 to refer to a food product. Spammers scan for email addresses, design spam emails, and broadcast them using fake accounts and servers. The first person arrested for spamming was an 18-year old who sent 1.5 million unsolicited ads. Spam fills inboxes with unwanted emails, slows internet speeds, and can steal information or alter search results. It is important to use spam filtering, avoid sharing email addresses, and not respond to suspicious emails.
