Spain joined the Union in 1986. • Actually there are 27 countries. • The capital city is Brussels. • The Day of Europe is the 9th of May. - Spain • Spain is a democratic European state with a parliament. • Spain has a Constitution, passed in 1978 (6th of Dececember), which contain the rights and obligations of all Spaniards. • Spain is organised into municipalities (more than 8.000), provinces (50) and autonomous communities (17). There are also 2 autonomous cities: Ceuta and Melilla. • Actually , we are more than 46 million inhabitants. • The official language is Spanish. • The capital city is Madrid • The National Day of Spain is the 12th of October

SOCUÉLLAMOS 2 - The Autonomous Community • There are 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities. • Each autonomous community has its own parliament and government. • Some autonomous communities have other official language, different than Spanish: - Catalonia: Catalan - Basque Country and Navarre: Euskera - Galicia: Galician - Valencian Community: Valencian • We are in Castile-La Mancha. • Castile-La Mancha is made up of five provinces: Guadalajara, Toledo, Ciudad Real, Cuenca y Albacete. • The capital city is Toledo. • The Regional Day of Castile-La Mancha is the 31st of May.
