Space law governs activities in outer space, defined as the area beyond Earth's atmosphere. It is a body of international and national law that regulates state relations and determines rights and duties related to space activities. Space law covers research, communications, natural resource use, environmental monitoring, disaster mitigation, surveillance, and more. The scope of space law includes five key UN treaties, other international agreements, domestic laws and regulations, and rules by international organizations.
