Keith Parker was the secretary of Southsea Golf Club from 1962-2005. During this time, the original pitch and putt course that hosted Southsea GC ceased to exist. Keith safeguarded important club items like trophies and records. Southsea GC was reformed in 1972 with Keith's involvement, ensuring the club was given new life.
2. Keith Parker
Secretary of Southsea Golf Club
1962-2005
Arguably Southsea Golf Club
as we know it might not exist
without the endeavours of Keith.
He was secretary at the time that
the pitch and putt course that hosted
the original S.G.C. effectively without
a formal winding up process, ceased
to exist. No subscriptions were
paid and no competitive golf was played.
Keith held in safe keeping, the minute book,
the original silver trophies and the
honours board.
Southsea Golf Club was reformed in 1972.
At a General Meeting organized by a
steering group headed by the first captain
Tommy Thompson and Keith a resolution to
“Give the club new life” was adopted.
The rest is history. Thank you Keith

4. HISTORY OF SOUTHSEA PAR 3 GOLF LINKS
Southsea Golf Links was developed by a resident as a memorial to Southsea
The course would be developed between lumps fort and the old coastguard cottage site, and designed by james briaid, a well-known golfer of his time.
On sixth April 1914, - the links was opened, but no water supply was available until the twenty-eighth of may 1914: during this period, the grass greens were watered
by men forming a chain with buckets to supply the green with water.
The course re-opened with a fee to players of: - 6d for a half day and 1/- for the whole day. A mashie club and putter were supplied for use on the course.
The coursewas closed by the military during the Second World War in 1940, and was not released until Monday 7th January 1946. Portsmouth city council parks department discussed the layout of the new course
with a professional golfer, and it was decided that the bunkers would be made smaller, as they had proved rather hazardous to the novice golfer.
On Saturday 8th June 1946 thegolf links was opened. Thecharges:- 1/- for 4 hours, 6d for 2 hours, and a staggering 3/6d for a lost ball due to a shortsupply of golf ballsas a result of the war.
Before thesecond world war, the courserecord was 20, achieved by Mr. tull, over two rounds, on 11th august 1922
The namelinks coursemeans built by the sea, open to all prevailing winds and all weathers. Some professional golfers have said that links courses can be far harder to par than an 18 hole golf course
(copied from the original document owned and held by the Southsea links, KB, 110114)
