South Carolina History South Carolina has been involved in much of the history One of the first 13 colonies Fort Sumter, was part of the Civil War, on April 12, 1861   thousands+ died   Antebellum, South Carolina advanced the nullification and sesession of any other southern state   July 1, 2000, South Carolina became the last state to remove the Confederate Flag that was over the statehouse(was placed there in 19 62)

State Capital Columbia, is also the state capital.  Columbia was the first city of South Carolina. Named after Christopher Columbus. Founded in March 26, 1786.
State Motto This is the state motto, "While I breath, I hope"    
State Flower, Bird, & Animal Gelsemium Sempervirens  - Also known as Yellow Jessamine is the state flower         The State Bird is the Carolina Wren         The White-Tailed Deer is the state animal  
State Nickname South Carolina state nickname is "The Palmetto State."  
State Flag South Carolina's state flag is   a navy blue color with a white crest in the left corner, and a palm tree   in the center.
Geographical Size, Location, & Population Its population grows every single day. Its population as of today(November 2, 2009) is well passed 4,479,820. SC is around 32,020 square miles. This state is in the south-eastern area of the united states, and is below North Carolina.
Climate South Carolina lies in the Humid Subtropical Climate. It is mostly hot all year around. but does tend to get windy on certain days.
