The compact design...
... of the system is really surprising. You can even fit a 24 in 8 stage
box with round or square multi-pin connectors in an incredibly small
2 U enclosure. The SYSBOXX can be configured as a 19“
system or a floor and wall box with variable width, and the
2 U or 3 U modules can be expanded to a multiple of their
height (possible height units: 2 U, 3 U, 4 U, 6 U, 8 U)
with the appropriate expansion frame.
Standard enclosure depth is 80 mm/3.15" or
140 mm/5.51".

The inside wiring...

The front panels...
... are made of 2.5 mm/0.1"
sheet steel, which is powder-
coated on the front only. Due
to the strength of the material the
panels are practically unbreakable and
they are available in empty or fully loaded
versions, ready to go making connections. The screws, for the most part
self-tapping, are flush countersunk and furnished with a Torx drive. The
punchholes for the connectors are almost always threaded, which
significantly minimizes the installation time and therefore locknuts are
unnecessary.

...for the SYKP cassette profile not only provides for safe scoop-proof
partitioning in the SYSBOXX housing (such as when using current-carrying combo
systems), but it can also be used quite easily as a practical compact housing
(H x W: 68.6 mm x 35.4 mm/2.7 x 1.4) with guide slots for locking pc boards.

The front panels can be individually equipped with many standard connectors and provide your SYStem with a universal

THE FLEXIBLE AUDIO CONNECTIVITY IN 1 U OF RACK SPACE
With the SYSPANEL and the new SYSPANEL5 you can quickly and easily set
up patch panels, device connector panels, interchange points or equipment rooms.
SYSPANEL's flexibility allows one to four of our standard circuit board modules
(excluding D-type), and the SYSPANEL5 and its big brother SYSPANEL5-XL can
hold a varied selection of up to 5 SYSBOXX front panels (including D-type) (1 WU).
These are shown on the following pages.
The SYSPANEL5-XL accommodates up to 5 modules of the
CARDINAL DVM series (see chapter “Electronics“).
The circuit board modules are available as 4-channel boards with NEUTRIK
3-pole or 5-pole XLR, as A or B series (male or female). The modules are
available with 12 cutting terminals (LSA technology) or 12 terminals in lift technology
on the rear side. They can also be fitted with NEUTRIK EtherCON-RJ45 using
the SBC13-EBL circuit board module, enabling the combination of an audio, DMX
and network patch panel on just 1 U. For conductor strain relief the housing is fitted
with 28 metal reeds where cable ties can be attached. The safety grounding is
handled by an M4 grounding bolt.
Individual labeling is possible with our SYSBOXX labeling profile. The top of the
SYSPANEL unit can be sealed with the optional (SYSPAN-C) cover.
The labeling profile and the XLR modules are quickly and easily secured with self-
tapping M2.5 Torx screws. These are also available as screw sets. See the following
pages.

You can wire up our INSTA-BOXX right on location – without a soldering gun!
Each XLR audio channel has a triple spring-loaded terminal block on the
back (ground, minus, plus) to allow connection of a separate ground, either a
stranded wire or a solid wire measuring 0.05 – 2.5 mm² / AWG30 – AWG13.
You only need a small screwdriver for insertion!
(For common grounding simply bridge the respective ground connections for all
channels – as with a wire on the plug terminals – or on both soldering points for
each channel on the board).
The circuit board has three soldering points per channel for an optional multi-pin
connector.
Our secrets behind the super-fast permanent installation solution are the special
4 or 8 channel XLR-module boards, combined with the SOMMER CABLE
housing series BLACKBOXX, PLUG MAMA and THE BOXX MK III with a
30 mm/1.18” hole spacing.
You can order them as a kit or preassembled and prewired, even on one or
two rectangular multipins – optionally also with 1:1 transformer technology
(BLACKBOXX and THE BOXX only). The empty housings for the BLACKBOXX,
PLUG MAMA and THE BOXX MK III are available in the chapter “Hardware
Accessories“.
For installation of 24 channels we recommend our BLACKBOXX housing
series – see photograph – and for smaller systems THE BOXX MKIII. Four holes
are provided on the bottom of the BLACKBOXX and the removable 19“ side
profiles to allow simple floor or wall installation.

...when you can have your own convenient connection
solutions right now? Due to numerous customer
requests, we have developed the SYSBOARD wall-
mount installation enclosures. They allow the installation
of classic junction boxes – combined with the modular
flexibility of the SYSBOXX. Thanks to the broad range
of modules we offer, it's no longer necessary to
special-order a pricey custom-made wall box, and then
wonder when it will actually arrive.
The new compact enclosures in the SYSBOARD line
provide cost-efficient wall connection panels with
a minimum expenditure of time and utmost
flexibility in the future.
The enclosures with 2 and 3 WU have
an PG29 opening on the bottom; the
enclosures with 6 WU are equipped with
two pre-punched PG29 openings one
on the bottom and one to the side which
can be pried open as needed. The outer
dimensions are 100% compatible with the
1 DU (depth unit) SYSBOXX and, because
of the hanging slots on the rear panel, they
can be integrated virtually everywhere in
an easy and unobtrusive way.
The available standard stocking color is
charcoal gray* RAL 7016.
Four different sizes are available from stock: one 2 U
version with 2 or 3 or 6 WU, and one 4 U version with
6 WU (WU = width unit = 35.6 mm/1.4“).
The SYSBOARD18 features a locking door behind
which the front panels of the modules are mounted set
back from the door by 100 mm (4). This way, even a
multi-pin connector can stay plugged in, even if the door
is shut. The door can be changed from left-hand to right-
hand and is equipped with a square lock (optionally
available also with a lamellar-type cylindrical lock,
The included mounting brackets allow three different
mounting positions: on-wall (fig. on the left) or in-wall
at two different depths.
The SYSBOARD18 can be fitted with SYSBOXX
faceplates over a width of 6 WU and a height of
3 x 2 U. Likewise SYSBOXX faceplates can be fitted in
the bottom or in the rear of the enclosure to manage
cable feed-in or add more connections.

Application example
SYSFLOOR is an ideal floor box insert: a heavy-duty rigid metal mounting frame for
integrating audio, video, media and standard power outlets into a floor box.
SYSFLOOR is available in three different versions:
1. The SYSFLOOR-06 can be fitted with 9.5 rack panels, 6+2+2 WU with up
to 16 x D‑flange openings (for XLR/Neutrik connectors), as well as (for example)
a pair of standard electrical power outlets, if so desired. And in combination with
its sturdy semi-circular strain-relief that offers 19 slots for holding your cables firmly
in place, you have at your disposal a wealth of mounting options.
2. The SYSFLOOR-04 can accommodate up to 10 x D-flange openings
or appropriate media interfaces on 4 WU.
3. The SYSFLOOR-03 can accommodate up to 8 x D-flange openings
or appropriate media interfaces on 3 WU.
The insert size of the SYSFLOOR-03 is equal to a GB2 mounting box (or a GB3
mounting box with the SYSFLOOR-04, respectively). This makes it possible to install
SYSBOXX together with power outlets in one box.
The insert size of the SYSFLOOR-06 is equal to 3 GB3 mounting boxes. Since
the connection plane is slanted, the cover of the floor box can be closed even with
plugged-in multi-pin connectors*. Its roominess allows for power supplies and active
converters (or the like) to be neatly tucked away in the floor box.
OBO BETTERMANN FLOOR BOXES
The mounting frames are compatible with round and square OBO BETTERMANN/
ACKERMANN equipment inserts (e.g., GESR9) and come with screw holes with
5.08 mm/0.2 spacing (for self-tapping M2.5 screws) and installation accessories.
The equipment grounding connection requires a grounding bolt and blank
conductive surface areas for the front panels.
SYSFLOOR-03 and -04 are supplied with 25 front panel screws, the SYSFLOOR-06
comes with 50 front panel screws. The following pages depict matching front panels
for building your SYSFLOOR-06.

The SOMMER CABLE SYSDESK consists
of a rugged stainless steel or powder-coated
full metal housing, which can be fitted with all
available 2 U SYSBOXX front panel modules. This
ensures maximum versatility and you can always keep up
with new market standards. The SYSDESK can be outfitted
with a total of 9 width units.
The corresponding connector modules and front panels are shown
on the following pages. If you see a SYSDESK logo next to an item, that
means we particularly recommend it for installation in this system.
And the inner values of the table insert box are nothing to sneeze at, either: the
SYSDESK has an integrated cable strain relief, an anti-dust brush in the connector
feed slot, as well as an innovative tabletop securing system (table top thickness
from 10 mm/0.4 to almost unlimited). For use with mains power connectors, the
SYSDESK can be grounded throughout. We recommend the super compact triple
power outlet module with rear Wieland mains connectors which enable a
simple cascading of several consolidation points.
Our SYSWALL45 clip-in modules can also be integrated here.
Other standards for UK, USA, F, CH are also available!
Optionally, the SYSDESK is available with the push-to-lift function and in a locking
version (see chart for order suffixes). This will spare school staff from the annoying
task of having to remove wadded-up chewing gum from the connector jacks.
Stock versions are available in brushed stainless steel, anthracite RAL 7016
textured finish, pure white RAL 9010 textured finish and a stainless steel look
RAL 7048.

The SYSFRAME 50 accepts SYSWALL 50 stainless steel
modules and thus makes the perfect solid stainless steel table
box for the A/V space (tabletop cutout size: 344 x 170 mm/
13.5 x 6.7). The two built-in power outlets (feed-in link to
other systems via GST18i3 connector) and the ability to add
up to 4 SYSWALL 50 modules allow for a cornucopia of
connection configurations. The SYSFRAME 50 includes an
integrated cable strain relief, a protective dust brush in the
cable feed-through slot, and an innovative mechanism for
firmly affixing the unit to the tabletop (tabletop thickness
between 10 mm and 100 mm/0.4 and 3.9).

The introduction of the micro duct system for 45 mm/1.77 snap-in modules in
France and Belgium marked the beginning of future-oriented media wall duct
systems. This system has a great deal of momentum going forward for a number
of obvious reasons:
• very compact and visually attractive duct system with a great variety of
modules
• serves as a wall duct for classic concealed installation, as a floor
installation system and as a media column
• time-saving snap-in simplicity: the duct is fastened directly to the wall, not
requiring any frames, recessed electrical boxes, etc.
With the SYSWALL45 series SOMMER CABLE builds on this success and offers a
multitude of media installation units in the 45 mm/1.77 snap-in module size.
This includes everything from media connectors, pushbutton sensors (EIB/KNX,
RS232, EnOcean®
, etc.) up to media control components. And with the
W45W-AR55 / W45S-AR55 adapter frame we can now also utilize the
popular SYSWALL 45 series in the 55-mm switch frame SYSWALL55 as well,

For the assembly of the 45 mm/1.77 snap-in module system, we offer wall-duct
raceways, room columns and table-base columns as well as desktop-
mount systems (multimedia panel) from our German partner GGK.
These duct systems combine the classic wall-duct raceway with modern snap-in
modules.
The ceiling-high columns and the multimedia panel for desktop applications open up
new possibilities in office planning (such as integration into table legs). The choice is
yours: all modules are available standard painted pure white or alu-silver. Moreover,
custom colors are no problem. Please feel free to contact us.

For classrooms, offices, conference rooms, or any other venues where power, data
and media-connections are required in a compact unit for a reasonable price.
The sleek metal frame integrates well practically everywhere. Owing to a broad
range of available sizes, it adapts easily to your installation requirements. The
Light version includes a Wieland male connector for power and cascading. It can
handle 2, 3, or 5 SYSWALL45 modules, which can be mounted either in, or under
the surface of a desk [fig. 1].
An optional cable management tray [fig. 4] will keep things clean and organized
under the table while simultaneously adding extra room for mounting two height
units of SYSBOXX front modules. In addition to its versatile connectivity, it is
particularly suitable for the integration of HDMI®

You can imagine the scenario: An image switcher needs to be installed
in a conference room, and everything should be easy and user-friendly.
Operating the switcher directly using the unit's own front panel controls can
often overwhelm the customer: too complicated – too complex – too many
controls – or simply inaccessible.
The projector on the ceiling, the image switcher in the cabinet, or triggering
a media controller – with our 4-button modules (e.g., built into the wall or the
table) this is as easy as 1-2-3 (or 4) by simply pushing a button!
The 4 short-travel keys with clear glass caps (12 x 12 mm/0.472 x 0.472“)
are LED-illuminated and can be labeled individually. Labels with common
functional descriptions are included (fig. ).
The modules are available in white, silver and anthracite as 45 x 45 mm/
1.77 x 1.77“ snap-in modules, suitable for desk installation panels
(SYSFRAME) and surface raceway systems. These can be adapted to
55 x 55 mm/2.17 x 2.17“ via the 45 k 55 mm adapter frame. They are
also available as 50 mm/1.97“ solid stainless steel or white high-gloss steel
center plates.
This way, the pushbutton modules will fit into virtually all commonly available
switch frame systems.
The modules fit perfectly into our SYSDESK, SYSBOXX, SYSFLOOR,
SYSBOARD and SYSPAN5 housing, floor and desk panel systems.
The modules are available in 2 versions:
1. With isolated buttons and freely controllable LEDs
(trigger voltage 5 V to 36 V)
2. As an RS232 version with built-in mini media controller
The RS232 version is equipped with a USB interface for programming
with easy-to-use PC software. All commands are freely programmable.
In master-slave mode there is one and in stand-alone mode there are
two RS232 interfaces available for sending and receiving. Networking is
done using RJ45 LAN cables, enabling up to 16 modules to be connected
in one line, which can be run with our DVM-TAST-PSU power supply. Our
CARDINAL DVM-194-CON media controller makes it a highly efficient
team, for the RS232 module can now be programmed in one go via the web
interface in the DVM link.
A connection to all other media controller systems is also easy to achieve.
Customized drivers are available for the operation with AMX and
CRESTRON devices.

Converters
Various transmission formats are not in themselves compatible. A dedicated converter is
required for conversion. Such units are easily implemented for analog use.
To convert analog TV signals into image signals for PC monitors, you need analog-to-digital
converters that recalculate the image, line by line at a digital level.
This also applies for the conversion to digital TV formats (SDI).

Signal generators
A quick check of the video connection is simple, but to have a
reference signal available in the form of a test generator that can fit in
any tool box is better.
The DVI signal enables direct digital signal transmission from a graphics
card to a flat screen or a projector. Because the digital DVI format is not
compatible with the analog VGA signal, special switches and splitters are
needed to distribute and convert the signal. Long distance transmission is
also possible with suitable amplifiers.
