This document describes the design of a solar water heater for the KIOT student cafeteria in Ethiopia. The cafeteria currently uses firewood to heat 7,000 liters of water per day but this is inefficient and causes environmental and health issues. The designed system aims to heat 7,500 liters of water per day using solar energy to address these issues. It includes the design of solar collectors, storage tanks, pipes, a shaft, gears, and a supporting frame to operate a tracking system for the solar panels. Design calculations are provided for key components. The system is intended to reliably supply hot water for the cafeteria in an environmentally friendly manner.
