Solar System Worksheet
Our system of one star and eight planets was born about 4.6 billion years ago. All of the pieces
were created at the same time. Do you know the order of the planets? Here is a good way for
remembering it:

Find the names of the eight planets hidden in this table:
Complete the next wordsearch and then search their definitions

Look at the picture and complete the bodies of the solar system.
What are STARS?
Stars are the objects that heat and light the planets in a system. Throughout the universe, there
are big ones, small ones, and different colored ones. The larger a star is, the hotter and more
luminous it is. A star’s color is related to its surface temperature. The coolest, smallest, dimmest
stars are red dwarfs. Hotter, medium-sized stars are yellow stars, and the hottest, largest, most
luminous main-sequence stars are blue stars.

Look at the image and write the name and the characteristics of the star:

             Name: __________________

             Characteristics: ____________________________________________________

             Name: __________________

             Characteristics: ____________________________________________________

             Name: ___________________

             Characteristics: ____________________________________________________

A shooting “star” is not really a star!
What do you think it could be?

Circle the image of the cosmic object that we often believe is a “shooting” star.
