Softball is a team sport where a pitcher throws a soft ball that is hit by a batter. The batter can run between bases on the field and score points called careers by touching each base and returning home. The sport was invented in 1887 in Chicago and was originally played indoors using a boxing glove and broomstick. It later began being played outdoors in 1920.
