Self interest intro….
• Self-interest generally refers to a focus on the needs or desires
(interests) of oneself.
• Every individual has self interest
• An individual has lot of dimensions/roles both mentally and
socially…
eg. Student/administrator/politicians/workers…
• Hence each one is supposed to play many roles and
responsibility.
• Every individual aspires to seek achievement in life/career
• Interested to be part of gated group/wanted to associated
with the rich and powerful
Social interests intro…
• Everyone is a member of society…(equality)
• We are behaving within the social norms…(social control)
• One should take act in the best interest of his
society…(leaders)
• Social service organisation extends supporting role with
government organisations.
• Educational institutions also plays a vital role
eg; VIT (socially responsible role)
Causes of self interests
• Place of an individual in the society (social location)
• Profession (Based on money value)
• Intellectual property
• Seeking wealth
• Ambitions
• Social changes and opportunities…etc
Clash of Interests
Confrontation of self and social interests may due to:
 Positive interests (For Personal Favor)
 Inverse interest (opposite)
 Incompatible interest (personal interest become mismatched to social
interests)
How to adhere social interests
Adoption of ethical codes…
• Social and moral ethical code (Life)
eg; Alcohol beverage (as taboo)
Respecting elders/Teachers
• Professional ethical code (Career)
Honesty, integrity loyalty, confidentiality, objectivity,
respectfulness
