This study examined the relationship between media use and stress symptoms in German adolescents. Researchers surveyed 357 11-year-olds about their use of TV, audio media, print media, and computers. They found that most time was spent with TV and coping was a main reason for using all media types. Girls associated media use more with externalizing symptoms while boys associated it with both internalizing and externalizing symptoms. The study is now over 10 years old and was limited by only examining German Caucasian adolescents. Future research could expand to the US, examine new media like games/internet, and consider social/group use of media.

Research proposal
This research proposal aims to investigate the factors motivating individuals to use social networks and the effects on individuals and families. The researcher plans to survey 500 college students aged 12-18 on their social media usage and whether it affects their relationships and personality. Introduction
In my selection of an article which fits the assignment criteria I zeroed down to a peer-reviewed article entitled “Impact of social media on student’s performance”. The article was authored in 2013 by Sara Selvaraj of Vels University. This work posits to explain the issue being addressed in the research article, the purpose of the work, provide a summary of the research questions therein, describe both the null and alternative hypothesis used by the author, show application of the conceptual framework, and discuss the methodology used and the limitation of the article.
Describe the problem or issue addressed.
The main issue addressed in the article is the consequences of students using social networking platforms. This means the impact that social networking has on the education system. As evident from the literature part of the work social networking sites are not meant to have a negative effect on the education system. However, it has turned out that there is an array of negative effects of using social networking sites by students. One of these problems is prompted by social networking site addiction. Students with access to the internet and have social media networking sites accounts spend a significant time of their day on these sites. The impact of that is the students are left with little or no time for their personal studies hence cannot submit things like assignments in a timely fashion (Selvaraj, 2013). Secondly, the students are poised to fail their examinations or experience a decline in their academic scores. The article attempts to show the severity of this problem and provide proof that indeed the problems exist.
Describe the purpose or intent of the study.
The article has 3 main objectives or intents. The first objective is to determine the influence of various social networking sites on student’s academic performance. Young children or generation is one of the most affected by social networking sites. The study tries to investigate the difference between the performance of the students before starting to use the sites and the performance after starting to use the sites. The second objective of the study is to investigate how the education system in totality has been impacted by social networking sites. This objective arises from the knowledge that not only student use the sites. The websites are used nearly by everyone in the sector irrespective of age, position and professional. This use must have an effect and it’s this impact that the work tries to unravel. The third objective of the study is to determine the motivation behind the use of social networking sites. These are the uses which are prompting individuals to sign up of social media accounts. The work also tries to discover the uses of the si.

Until recently, Facebook had
dominated the social media
landscape among America’s youth –
but it is no longer the most popular
online platform among teens,
according to a new Pew Research
Center survey. Today, roughly half
(51%) of U.S. teens ages 13 to 17 say
they use Facebook, notably lower
than the shares who use YouTube,
Instagram or Snapchat.
This shift in teens’ social media use
is just one example of how the
technology landscape for young
people has evolved since the Center’s
last survey of teens and technology
use in 2014-2015. Most notably,
smartphone ownership has become a
nearly ubiquitous element of teen
life: 95% of teens now report they
have a smartphone or access to one.
These mobile connections are in turn fueling more-persistent online activities: 45% of teens now
say they are online on a near-constant basis.
The survey also finds there is no clear consensus among teens about the effect that social media
has on the lives of young people today. Minorities of teens describe that effect as mostly positive
(31%) or mostly negative (24%), but the largest share (45%) says that effect has been neither
positive nor negative.
These are some of the main findings from the Center’s survey of U.S. teens conducted March 7-
April 10, 2018. Throughout the report, “teens” refers to those ages 13 to 17.

Motives Behind the use of FB
This document discusses motives for using Facebook based on a study conducted among 120 school-going children ages 12-18. It finds that older children tend to use Facebook more for developing new relationships, social interaction, and entertainment, while younger children use it more for maintaining existing relationships and passing time. The study also found that children ages 16-18 generally had more than 100 Facebook friends, while children ages 14-15 tended to have fewer than 100 friends. Addictive facebook use among university students
The Facebook has become an essential part of almost every university students’ daily life, and while a large
number of students seem to get benefits from use of the Facebook by exchanging information for educational
goals, make friends, and other activities, the literature indicates that this social networking site can become
addictive to some university students’ users, which is one of the today’s higher education matters. The aim of this
study, therefore, is to explore the phenomenon of Facebook addiction among university students. Qualitative
study using interview is used to gather data from nine International postgraduates of Universiti Putra Malaysia
and the data established three themes (Compulsion to check Facebook, High frequency use, and Using Facebook
to avoid offline responsibility) relied on the participants interviews. The findings from these three themes
showed that these users considered their Facebook dependency, are known as salience, tolerance, and conflict.
These results also lead to the conclusion that like most activities, moderation and controlled use are key. So, the
best approach to preparing students for life in a knowledge-based society is to help them exercise self-control
and achieve a level of balance when using Facebook. It is believed that the findings of this study would help
other Facebook researchers by contributing to the limited academic literature in this area.

Introduction
In my selection of an article which fits the assignment criteria I zeroed down to a peer-reviewed article entitled “Impact of social media on student’s performance”. The article was authored in 2013 by Sara Selvaraj of Vels University. This work posits to explain the issue being addressed in the research article, the purpose of the work, provide a summary of the research questions therein, describe both the null and alternative hypothesis used by the author, show application of the conceptual framework, and discuss the methodology used and the limitation of the article.
Describe the problem or issue addressed.
The main issue addressed in the article is the consequences of students using social networking platforms. This means the impact that social networking has on the education system. As evident from the literature part of the work social networking sites are not meant to have a negative effect on the education system. However, it has turned out that there is an array of negative effects of using social networking sites by students. One of these problems is prompted by social networking site addiction. Students with access to the internet and have social media networking sites accounts spend a significant time of their day on these sites. The impact of that is the students are left with little or no time for their personal studies hence cannot submit things like assignments in a timely fashion (Selvaraj, 2013). Secondly, the students are poised to fail their examinations or experience a decline in their academic scores. The article attempts to show the severity of this problem and provide proof that indeed the problems exist.
Describe the purpose or intent of the study.
The article has 3 main objectives or intents. The first objective is to determine the influence of various social networking sites on student’s academic performance. Young children or generation is one of the most affected by social networking sites. The study tries to investigate the difference between the performance of the students before starting to use the sites and the performance after starting to use the sites. The second objective of the study is to investigate how the education system in totality has been impacted by social networking sites. This objective arises from the knowledge that not only student use the sites. The websites are used nearly by everyone in the sector irrespective of age, position and professional. This use must have an effect and it’s this impact that the work tries to unravel. The third objective of the study is to determine the motivation behind the use of social networking sites. These are the uses which are prompting individuals to sign up of social media accounts. The work also tries to discover the uses of the si.

Until recently, Facebook had
dominated the social media
landscape among America’s youth –
but it is no longer the most popular
online platform among teens,
according to a new Pew Research
Center survey. Today, roughly half
(51%) of U.S. teens ages 13 to 17 say
they use Facebook, notably lower
than the shares who use YouTube,
Instagram or Snapchat.
This shift in teens’ social media use
is just one example of how the
technology landscape for young
people has evolved since the Center’s
last survey of teens and technology
use in 2014-2015. Most notably,
smartphone ownership has become a
nearly ubiquitous element of teen
life: 95% of teens now report they
have a smartphone or access to one.
These mobile connections are in turn fueling more-persistent online activities: 45% of teens now
say they are online on a near-constant basis.
The survey also finds there is no clear consensus among teens about the effect that social media
has on the lives of young people today. Minorities of teens describe that effect as mostly positive
(31%) or mostly negative (24%), but the largest share (45%) says that effect has been neither
positive nor negative.
These are some of the main findings from the Center’s survey of U.S. teens conducted March 7-
April 10, 2018. Throughout the report, “teens” refers to those ages 13 to 17.

Motives Behind the use of FB
This document discusses motives for using Facebook based on a study conducted among 120 school-going children ages 12-18. It finds that older children tend to use Facebook more for developing new relationships, social interaction, and entertainment, while younger children use it more for maintaining existing relationships and passing time. Addictive facebook use among university students
The Facebook has become an essential part of almost every university students’ daily life, and while a large
number of students seem to get benefits from use of the Facebook by exchanging information for educational
goals, make friends, and other activities, the literature indicates that this social networking site can become
addictive to some university students’ users, which is one of the today’s higher education matters. The aim of this
study, therefore, is to explore the phenomenon of Facebook addiction among university students. Qualitative
study using interview is used to gather data from nine International postgraduates of Universiti Putra Malaysia
and the data established three themes (Compulsion to check Facebook, High frequency use, and Using Facebook
to avoid offline responsibility) relied on the participants interviews. The findings from these three themes
showed that these users considered their Facebook dependency, are known as salience, tolerance, and conflict.
These results also lead to the conclusion that like most activities, moderation and controlled use are key. So, the
best approach to preparing students for life in a knowledge-based society is to help them exercise self-control
and achieve a level of balance when using Facebook. It is believed that the findings of this study would help
other Facebook researchers by contributing to the limited academic literature in this area.
