Popular keynotes discussed expanding human intelligence, the democratization of innovation, and replacing fear with curiosity. Content curation was also highlighted as an important part of managing today's information abundance.
For the first time in history, there are four generations involved in philanthropy: Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y (Millenials). Although each generation is philanthropic, they have individual preferences for how they are engaged by nonprofits. This session will demonstrate how important it is to create lifetime givers by reaching out to the younger generations (under age 40) now as well as define the key characteristics of the four current generations and their habits for charitable giving. Nonprofit professionals will learn strategic entry points to successfully engage these younger generations in philanthropy, both as donors and in the multigenerational development office. Ultimately, today’s annual donors are tomorrow’s major donors; we need to cultivate them today.
The document discusses engaging with different generations for fundraising and philanthropy. It provides information on the characteristics and philanthropic behaviors of Traditionalists, Boomers, Gen Xers, and Millennials. Fundraisers need to understand generational differences in order to effectively recruit, cultivate, and retain donors across age groups. The next generation is an important group to engage as they become more influential donors. Nonprofits should provide multiple entry points tailored to different generations in order to practice multi-generational fundraising and encourage lifelong philanthropic support.

The role of the tourism sector in expanding economysaranyapugazh
Tourism has significant potential to expand economic opportunity in developing countries. However, the tourism sector lags behind other industries in adopting corporate social responsibility practices to maximize these opportunities. While some tourism companies have innovative programs, overall the sector has focused more on environmental and philanthropic efforts than on business strategies to strengthen local economic impacts. There is an opportunity for tourism companies, particularly large hotels and resorts, to lead the sector by implementing best practices that enhance economic opportunity in commercially viable ways, such as developing local suppliers and improving workforce skills.

Measuring Social Enterprise Impacts and Benefits:Emerging Approaches and IssuesKarim Harji
Presentation at the CASC/ANSER conference, Ottawa, May 27, 2009
For many social enterprises, the important issues of accountability and performance often get funneled into a discussion around metrics and measurement. Yet the measurement of the “blended value” (financial, social and environmental) that is created by social enterprise is a relatively under-developed facet of the social finance marketspace. This session will present emerging approaches and methods to assess, manage and communicate the complexity of social and financial value creation. Drawing on Canadian and international examples, the potential contributions of these approaches to the broader debate around social impact measurement will also be examined.
This webinar discusses how sustainability relates to leadership development. It will provide context on global trends impacting organizations, examples of innovation in leadership training, and how successful leaders understand the interconnection between social, environmental and economic issues. The webinar aims to show how leadership can balance these three domains through systems thinking, collaborative capabilities, and self-awareness.
This document discusses how social media has evolved and how it can be used authentically by organizations. It notes that social media is about people connecting with each other, not technology. It provides examples of how universities are using social media through blogs, social networks, private communities, video, podcasting, and RSS feeds. The document emphasizes that social media efforts should focus on facilitating discussion and participation rather than traditional one-way marketing messages.
A presentation on how social enterprises and social business modeling has the potential to foster economic prosperity, environmental quality and social equity, satisfying the needs of present society without compromising resources for future generations. We talk about the 9 key approaches to make a business for good, and see through several examples how social entrepreneurs are successfully combining profit and impact in revolutionary ways.
This document summarizes a presentation on leadership in complex times. It discusses trends like an aging population, declining funding, and increased use of technology that are challenging non-profits. It also covers different types of change and resistance to change. The presentation argues that leadership must acknowledge complexity, be inclusive and adaptive to navigate these challenges. Qualities like identifying different problem types and fostering collective wisdom are important. The goal is a shift to see communities as primarily responsible for members' well-being, with professionals and funders playing supporting roles.
The document discusses how Generation Y's use of social media and open sharing of information online will impact security and collaboration. It notes that Gen Y widely uses technologies like social networks, smartphones, and blogs and shares personal information openly online through practices like "ambient intimacy" and "declarative living". The document argues that this open sharing of information will require organizations to embrace more transparency, empower individuals' control over their own data, and engage in more open collaboration and conversation online.

ECC promotes sustainable development practices through greening cities, building communities, and strengthening democracy. It builds collaborations across sectors to develop energy efficiency and job training programs. Partners include labor unions, non-profits, businesses, and governments. The environmental case cites benefits of a green cities initiative. Economically, retrofitting buildings could create over a million jobs and savings. Investing in urban infrastructure and affordable housing also provides economic opportunities. Addressing rising utility costs through efficiency helps low-income families. However, some distressed housing requires repairs beyond weatherization's scope, presenting an equity challenge.

BUILD BRIDGES
BUILD BRIDGES THROUGH ACCEPTANCE OF SELF & OTHERS
• Help others feel comfortable around you (i.e., vulnerable) & new social situation.
• People tend to change and obtain perspectives and look for new options, choices,
and solutions. When you move about freely, you can easily generate many new
ideas and a supportive atmosphere. When you maintain this balance of movement
you maximize equality of mutual value, and cooperation.
