This document discusses the misuse of Facebook and outlines five rules for proper Facebook use. It notes that Facebook allows anyone to see what is posted, and some people abuse this by posting inappropriate content without considering who can see it. Following the five rules of having only one Facebook account, keeping one-on-one conversations private, separating professional and personal content, keeping address books private, and not jeopardizing others' jobs or careers can help prevent job loss and protect trust with family and friends. Sticking to these rules would make one a stronger job candidate than those who misuse Facebook.

Social Media Misuse of Facebook
Facebook is where everyone and anyone can see what you share and post, abused by
some, and cherished by others. The way that Facebook is abused is people don’t know what to
filter and what to not post. People also bash others on Facebook thinking they’d get away with it,
post inappropriate things, and not care who sees. Following rules could prevent me from being
fired. And because I should “save one-on-one conversation for other media” (Downing, et. al.,
2014, pg. 319).
Using these five rules I would become a better candidate for jobs over others who don’t.
First I will be making sure my “friends” know who I am on Facebook. By only having one
account and letting them know not to add another “me” on Facebook. Then I will be saving one-
on-one conversations for other mediums. If I have a problem with a co-worker I would do it in
person or private message on Facebook. Also I will be remembering that not everyone wants to
mix their professional and personal lives on Facebook. Keeping professional life’s out of
Facebook and personal life’s out of professional settings. Next I will be keeping my address
books private to others besides me. I will not be sharing my email or phone numbers to people
who aren’t close or related to me. Lastly I “Do not put others’ jobs and careers at risk”
(Downing, et. al., 2014, pg. 319). I won’t put people’s jobs at risk by putting inappropriate
picture or post’s on Facebook (Downing, et. al., 2014).
Abusing or misusing Facebook can lead to a loss of a job or trust in family and friends.
Don’t jeopardize jobs, keep conversations and address’s private, don’t mix professional and

2. personal lives, and knowing who friends are. Don’t always believe what’s put on the internet to
be true.
