Scott Hanselman wrote a great post on how to keep your blog from sucking. I saw it, liked it and blogged about it myself. At some point I created, with Scott's permission, this presentation based on those posts.

I prepared this presentation for the 2014 Summer Tech Camp (#fargotechcamp) for educators in the Fargo, ND - Moorhead, MN area. In this workshop, we discussed risks and benefits of being on social media organizationally. We talked about positive examples of social media use by school leaders and shared ideas and strategies for more effective use of social media.
A talk from Tairawhiti Tech Expo which I used to motivate and inspire students to explore the world, find their passion and take ownership of their learning. We have recently had some negative press about the quality of education in our area and I thought this could contribute to changing the opinions of the people who are the involved in the learning part of the equation.

How much or how little you plan to communicate
depends on how many volunteers you have, their
communication skills and preferences, and the
preferences of your members. Keep in mind that any
communication is better than none, that your community
members understand that we are staffed by volunteers,
and that we have successful communities all across the
spectrum.
This is a basic Social Media plan, based on a Community
with limited super powers. Since your community will
have a different set of super powers and different
kryptonite, your basic plan will be your own. Use these as
a sample and then share your story with us.

-notes on Zeo sweepstakes
-what is social media?
--New Media = more ways to “get found”
-defensive versus offensive social media
-defensively, your customers are talking about you online, you can ignore it, but that might not be the best thing when one person can have such an effect
-offensively it’s less clear, more people in your funnel should equal more sales, but like other marketing, it’s difficult to measure “awareness” and “branding” goals, especiallly when you only have the resources of a startup
-don’t forget the jetblue story
Best Practices
Catchy Titles
Call to Action
Layout (white spaces, bold, italic)
Content (graphics, videos)
