Objectives to Identify
1.Identify ways new media platforms are used by traditional
news media, advertising, public relations, and
broadcasting professionals
2.Analyze new media tools and their uses in order to be
savvy media consumers and content creators
What is the Rocket?
• The Rocket is a special show on KWTS that focuses on
playing the best hard rock and heavy metal
• It is hosted by me (The Living Deadbeat) Heath McCarty
(Nordic Beard) and Carly Carthel (Maiden Michelle)
• The Rocket is on every Thursday night from 9-11 pm
• Currently the 2nd longest running show in KWTS history
When I joined The Rocket we had a group page
on Facebook.
• Group pages are hard to advertise
• URL for the group page is

• Much easier to promote and say over the radio
• Like page is more accessible
• More people are willing to like a page then join
a group
Last semester we created a Like Page
When I joined the Rocket our Twitter page was
barley used
• We had about 60-ish followers and little activity
• I came up with the idea to start live tweeting the
show by tagging the band and the song that was
playing

• Tactic has been successful
• Focus on smaller bands and individual musicians
• They are more likely to directly control their Twitter
and interact with others
• Since we started live tweeting the show our follower
count has more than doubled
We have gotten a couple of large names in the metal
community to follow us
Live Tweeting The West Texas Death Fest
• After getting HootSuite certified I incorporated HootSuite to manage the show
• Makes looking at Twitter & Facebook simultaneously easier
• I have less tabs on my browser open
• Twitter has issues when more than 1 user are on the desktop version at the
same time
Using HootSuite
In Conclusion
• My work on the Rocket’s social media has been very beneficial
• We can promote the show over Twitter & Facebook
• In turn we can promote the Twitter & Facebook over the air
• Currently The Rocket has more likes on Facebook & more Twitter followers
than any other special show on KWTS
