Editor's Notes
Social media is medium of communication that provides 2-way communication. Think of the difference between a website and a blog. A website is one-way communication for people to get information. A blog can offer information and offer space for people to enter into a conversation, to communicate directly to the author and the audience. It goes from a lecture with a website, to a large town hall meeting with a blog.
After the resignation of Pope Benedict: Diocese of Orange held a last-minute Mass for Pope Benedict. Advertised on Facebook. Got over 500 parishioners and local TV to come.
The New Evangelization as a journey of faith, worship and witness, presents three opportunities or audiences for the transmission of the Christian faith:To engage more intently those who are faithful and need to be renewed with increased catechesis; To reach out to those who have never heard the gospel proclaimed; and To re-engage those who are baptized but have lost a living sense of the faith in their daily lives

USCCB’s Facebook: “All posts and comments should be marked by Christian charity and respect for the truth. They should be on topic and presume the good will of other posters. Discussion should take place primarily from a faith perspective. No ads please.”Don’t let people hijack your site. It might be necessary to invite this person to chat over the phone, email or meet with someone in person if they have a particular issue that they would like to discuss that is not in line with the Code of Conduct. Members can also be blocked.Directing people to the parish, diocesan, USCCB, Vatican or California Catholic Conference website can provide information for people and mitigate their tone.
