Social justice refers to fairness and equality within a society, particularly in reference to vulnerable groups. It involves ensuring all people have access to basic human rights like adequate resources, education, employment, health, and freedom from discrimination. Social justice movements advocate for oppressed groups and fight for equal rights and representation. Examples include Indigenous land rights and self-determination in Australia, equal pay and roles for women, and animal welfare reforms.

It is the prospect of genuine employment and good health: a life of choices and opportunity, free from discrimination.“ Mick Dodson, Annual Report of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, 1993.
