Powerful Voices is a social justice organization that works to promote equitable gains in health, economic, educational, and legal systems for girls with the highest needs and limited access to opportunities. The organization strives to dismantle oppression within itself in order to better promote social justice for girls in the community. It aims to reframe issues to engage more individuals and communities in social justice efforts, influence policies and systems, and maintain earlier progress on issues. Powerful Voices has served girls in juvenile detention and schools since the 1990s, and continues to develop its curriculum, trainings, and conferences to empower girls and address the root causes of inequity.

Participation in politics project
Diana Manfoumbi, a 21-year-old business administration major at Grayson College, wrote a project for her GOVT 2306 class about participating in politics to promote equal rights, public safety, and greater youth involvement. She learned about interest groups' influence on society, the high costs of capital punishment, issues with trade agreements and illegal immigration, how Texas influences federal decisions, and how individuals and voting can shape policies and justice.

Women empowerment refers to women having the power and agency to determine their own choices and destiny. It involves women participating in decision making in all areas of life from which they were previously excluded, such as financial, social, and economic matters. Empowering women also means raising their status through education and training to increase self-worth and awareness. Economic empowerment gives women the ability to access and benefit from resources and manage risks to improve their economic status and well-being. Several ongoing projects in India work to empower women, such as SEWA which aids informal women workers, Snehalaya which helps disadvantaged women and children, and other programs focused on menstrual health, rural hygiene, and helping abused women.

Gender Diversity in India
Workplace gender inequality is a global phenomenon. McKinsey Global Institute estimates that women add 37% of the world’s GDP while constituting one-half of the global working age population. If they played an identical role to men in the labour markets, however, women could add about USD 28 Trillion to global GDP by 2025, or add about USD 12 Trillion if their proportion in the workforce was brought up to ‘best-in-the-region’ levels.
On each of the above numbers India has the most to gain, compared with 95 other countries. Women’s share of India’s GDP is about 17%, and the above two scenarios could elevate the country’s GDP by 60% and 16%, respectively. Getting anywhere close to these numbers requires India to recast its outdated social mores substantially, however.

- During 2013, demand for industrial space in Poland reached historically high levels, driven by large deals from Amazon and others. At the same time, vacancy rates increased slightly to 11.4% due to high tenant churn.
- Total industrial stock reached 7.45 million sqm at the end of 2013. New completions totaled 305,000 sqm during the year, well below recent years, though the development pipeline grew substantially.

Foster children who depend on society's largess for their very existence, go largely unseen. Thus, I am terribly concerned we continue to fail the children who are abused, neglected and just plain unwanted. With them being just minor children, they are unable to fund political campaigns, lobby any elected representatives for an opportunity to be heard or even to organize marches to advocate for better services. They have no voice if we do not speak for them. As a future human and social service professional, child welfare is considered to be a social justice issue as the rates of children being at risk is continually rising especially when you have certain children from birth more advantage compared to others. Thus, the Annie E. Casey Foundation a private state organization based in Baltimore and has reached across the country has helped many federal agencies, states, counties, cities, and neighborhoods create more innovative, cost-effective responses to the issues that negatively affect children such as poverty, unnecessary disconnections from family and even due to communities with limited access to opportunity.
I have chosen the Annie E. Casey Foundation to focus on my Capstone Project because for over many decades this foundation has been able to advance the child welfare field’s understanding of neuroscience and brain research in order to encourage implementation of more effective programs and policies. In eliminating the issues of child welfare, this foundation has helped many young people in foster care transition in and from foster care through practice, policy and evaluation tools that seek to improve their opportunities and assets as well as help to build their personal and financial assets by engaging them in self-advocacy and leadership opportunities.
My strategic plan will be developed from the perspective of social change in order to find the balance between our joint responsibilities as a society and our responsibilities as individuals to contribute to a just society. The victimization of kids in many states in foster care in this country is an outrage, but these systems can and must operate humanely and comply with children’s constitutional and human rights. It’s very clear that a lot of more strategies and linkages across sectors are needed to end child abuse and violence against children.

- My obligation as a volunteer to run a community violence-prevention program working with gang members is to protect the children. I have given my word that I will help these children fix their lives and listen to them. I want to make sure that these children are taken care of in their homes and that they are not in any real danger.
If the police know that I work work these children I have an obligation to these children. I would not put myself or the children into any danger.
-If the children tell me information that would lead to others or themselves into danger I would tell them that I have to speak up that it is my duty to do that. And, I would tell. The community and all of it's people need to be taken care of and protected. These children have no adult to depend on and direct them into the correct path, as other people have either failed them or left them. They need people who are ethically going to stand by them and help them in a time of need.
If there are issues affecting the community that have nothing to do directly with the one you're concerned with, do you nonetheless have an obligation to become involved?
- I would not say that I have nothing to do with something that is not directly concerned with me, but if it is about the community or the children that I am working with then yes I have an ethically moral obligation to become involved to make things right.
What if you don't really understand the whole situation, and your involvement may do as much harm as good—do you still have an ethical obligation to support or become active on the right side?
- I would not stick my nose into business that does not affect me, my community or the children that I am working with. If someone came up to me and was telling me about information, I would want to fully understand so then I can make a ethically correct decision on what to do. I do not want to do any harm to anyone or any situation my by myself not fully fully understanding the situation.
What if your support or activism endangers or compromises your community intervention?
- Sometimes having social action can make a positive change for taking action of the community. Making the changes in the community ethically can make a change for the people that are living in it. We need to be the activism of our communities to make that change for a better, healthier, world for our children.
"Activism is quite simply taking action to effect social change; this can occur in a myriad of ways and in a variety of forms. Often it is concerned with ‘how to change the world’ through social, political, economic or environmental change. This can be led by individuals but is often done collectively through social movements".
