The document analyzes and compares the opening sequences of the films Clueless and Ferris Bueller's Day Off in terms of how teenagers are represented. In Clueless, teenagers are depicted as wealthy, energetic rebels focused on partying and fashion. This detached portrayal may make it difficult for the teenage target audience to relate to the characters. Ferris Bueller's Day Off presents a more nuanced and realistic representation of teenagers, showing Ferris as vulnerable but mischievous, coming from a caring middle-class family but in conflict with authority figures like his sister. Both films aim to engage teenagers as an audience through their differing approaches.
This film represents social groups in both traditional and modern ways. Traditionally, the female protagonist is shown as vulnerable and delicate, represented by shots of her alone on a swing which make her seem weak. Men are shown as powerful and dominant, such as a shot of a stalker grabbing the swing she is on. However, some shots provide modern representations, such as one where the female takes up more of the frame than the smaller male behind her, implying she has control. Additionally, keeping the male characters' identities hidden makes them seem more mysterious in a modern way.
The document summarizes how the title and opening sequence of a film represent particular social groups. It represents teenage girls through the main character wearing a onesie in bed, her girly bedroom decor, and her messy room with makeup and clothes. It also represents mothers through the mother character wearing work clothes and natural makeup. Other elements that represent teenagers are the main character having her phone charging by her bed and sixth form ID badges on her door, showing she is a student. The lighting in the bedroom also aims to represent a moody teenager. The mother's eye contact, body language and clothing are meant to represent an adult social group and show her authority as a parent.
The document discusses how the media product represents particular social groups. Specifically, it only includes female characters to challenge stereotypes. The main character is represented as naive and distressed, fitting a feminine stereotype. The children characters are also female and portrayed as evil to subvert expectations. Cinematography like dolly shots depict the female characters as vulnerable and isolated. By having most of the film set in the main character's bedroom, it allows the target 15-24 age group to relate to spending time there. The younger girls are given higher status than the main character by disturbing her sleep, challenging the usual stereotype of older generations having more power. Costuming also depicts some stereotypical feminine traits through items like pink pajamas
How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social groups?10dunnv
My media product represents teenagers as being naïve and unaware of their surroundings. The main character, a teenage girl, gets followed without realizing it. She is often seen alone on her phone in the park. It also shows teenagers as outgoing by showing the girl wandering in the park, as opposed to staying home. The video aims to depict realistic stereotypes of teenagers being constantly on their phones and going outside rather than staying indoors. It uses a teenage girl character to make the horror story more effective by putting the viewer in a vulnerable position.
HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPShannahmountford
This document provides an analysis of how a media product represents particular social groups through its portrayal of a character. It summarizes that the character is depicted in stereotypical ways associated with teenagers, including being lazy, unreliable, rebelling against society, and struggling with depression. Visual elements like low-angle shots, dark lighting, and an isolated setting are used to convey feelings of being watched, judged, and unable to cope. The analysis suggests this portrayal reinforces stereotypes about teenagers and females facing mental health issues.
The document discusses representation of social groups in media products. It focuses on how the film represents high school teenagers, different races, and ages. In the title sequence, it portrays high school girls and also may include forensic scientists and teachers. The sequence includes Ugandan, White, and Somali girls to represent London's multicultural environment. It aims to represent the main character as the victim who lost her friend, while another girl is portrayed as mean by grabbing the photo. Overall, the document argues the characters were shown in a positive way to challenge stereotypes about teenagers often presented in media.
The document summarizes how the film title and opening sequence represents particular social groups, specifically male teenagers aged 16-19. It discusses how the clothing, lighting/setting, props, dialogue, camera angles, body language, and eye contact in the opening scene portray stereotypes about teenagers. The clothing worn by the characters, such as popular sneaker and jacket brands, allows teenage audiences to relate to them. Additionally, the moody lighting and outdoor setting depict teenagers as dull or lazy. Some elements, like the use of a backpack or ill-mannered dialogue, connect to stereotypes about teenage behavior, while others, like a character's confident posture, challenge common stereotypes.
The document discusses how age is represented in the TV series Glue. Young characters are portrayed negatively through irresponsible behaviors like drug and alcohol abuse. Their actions reinforce stereotypes of teenagers as reckless and out of control. Each character has a different personality and style that represents different views of modern youth cultures and fashion trends. Music and camera shots are used to build tension and highlight characters' emotions and vulnerabilities. Overall the characters and their behaviors reinforce common stereotypes of teenagers.
The document discusses how the film represents indie teenage girls through the main character. It describes choosing fashionable clothing and hairstyles to make the character appear like a typical indie teen while hiding her true struggles as the mother to her alcoholic sister. The setting of nice homes and schools is used to avoid attention from social services and maintain a normal appearance, despite the problems at home.
The document discusses how different social groups are represented in the media product "Revenant". It represents age and class through the main character, who is a typical teenage girl dressed in modern clothing that would appeal to audiences aged 15 and older. Race is less directly addressed, as the single main character appears Asian but exhibits no overtly stereotypical racial traits or behaviors. Class is depicted through the middle-class surroundings of the character and her home. The piece examines whether and how these social categories challenge common stereotypes.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Social Group Representation
1. This location takes place inside a school which is instantly recognisable due to the use of props
such as the textbooks and table and chairs. This represents our protagonist as being a student
and dedicated to her schoolwork. She is dressed in smart clothing which further empathises the
fact of teenagers having to be serious in school and almost creates a sense of restriction. Her
body language further indicates this as it is very closed off and protective. This represents that
teenagers often feel uncomfortable and repressed growing up, particularly in school and around
the opposite gender. The male walking past her is dressed in very casual clothing which suggests
males don't feel this sense of restriction and isolation as much, however the way he walks and
holds himself represents teenage males as feeling as though they have to be these confident and
outspoken individuals and that they have a certain role to play.
2. In the use of a close up we are showing the audience a view of what the female protagonist looks
like. We have used an actress who is young as she is representing the teenage girl population.
Her makeup is very simple and thus is suggesting that not all teenage girls are the 'typical' type in
the fact that they are overly concerned with their hair and makeup. Despite her youth, in the words
that she is saying in the poetic voice over, and her serious facial expressions, she is showing that
girls of her age are often more mature and wise than they are considered. The voice over content
is in a form of a spoken word poem and represents the social group as being much more aware
and less naïve of the goings on around them as usually represented as. Therefore, our media
product is trying to contradict and face the usually stereotypes of the teenage social group in
showing that there is a lot more to them that is worth taking the time to find out about.
3. Our protagonist is wearing quite plain and dark colours which is representing teenagers as often
being quite misguided and angry. It is at a contrast to the usual bright colours seen in coming of
age films and also the smarter clothes the protagonist is seen wearing in the flashbacks at her
school. This suggests that she, and often many from the same social group, feel that they cannot
be themselves at school and under certain pressures in society and that they have to fit into a
certain mold. The location at one point is in a mall which is the first indication of the typical
representation of the teenage social group. This is that they are often shown shopping in a mall in
their free time but this is also challenged by the fact that she is alone, without any friends around
her which suggests that teenagers often need time alone and don't always want to be constantly
surrounded by other people and friends they are frequently represented as. The use of a slight low
angle shot is used which represents the character as being powerful, confident and in control
which is important as it is only when she has left home and on her own that she feels this way
,despite it being a potentially scary situation, and thus many of the same social group could
identify with this.
4. The music in the soundtrack is quite sombre but also whimsical which suggests teenagers often
have thoughts and dreams about doing something or going somewhere but generally think it won't
happen. The protagonists' facial expression is quite sad and uncomfortable which represents
teenagers as not being very confident in class due to being scared of being judged or exposing
themselves to other people. Her body language is quite hunched over and isolated as though she
feels that she is all alone whereas, the way she is represented is the way that lots of teenagers
often feel. There is a strong wind battling around the protagonist as she is sat on the floor which
suggests she is facing and fighting her troubles, although as she is sat by the edge it could mean
that she felt she was close to losing before finding her self and running away. Others of the social
group could identify with this, however the chemistry equations written on the whiteboard behind
her gives the scene a semblance of normality as it is a common scene in a school and thus they
can relate to the situation and feel it represents them.
5. The use of low-key lighting and dark colours in the whole opening sequence is different to what
you'd expect from a coming of age film and possibly represents the teenage social group as
having deeper depths and darker thoughts and feelings than people usually think. However, the
bright lights and high-key lighting in certain spots represent the protagonist as finding the light
when in a dark place, keeping up hope and managing to find a way to be who she wants to be. I
feel this can represent the social group as a whole and many could identify to this. The location for
the majority of shots are in a city which has always represented a place for escapism and for
people who want to discover themselves and experience more than previously. It also represents
the protagonist as being very strong and independent that she would brave a place like this on her
own and therefore represents other teenagers similarly. Teenagers would definitely relate to this
due to cities are often shown as a place you go to grow up and strike out on your own which is
something teenagers often dream about and thus suggest that they are frequently ambitious.
