This document discusses social enterprises as a potential solution to social and environmental problems. It summarizes that traditional institutions like governments, UN agencies, and large NGOs are often inefficient or removed from the problems. Businesses are not motivated by social missions. Social enterprises, however, are financially sustainable mission-based businesses that generate social or environmental returns rather than maximizing profits. Examples of successful social enterprises in Thailand are provided in areas like publishing, IT, fair trade, documentaries, agriculture, and education.
