The Sochi Winter Olympics were held in Sochi, Russia in 2014. Sochi is a city on the Black Sea coast near the Caucasus Mountains with a subtropical climate. It has over 300,000 permanent residents and hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics as well as the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Chiropractic care has been provided to Olympic athletes since 1968, when the first chiropractor treated the Aruba team. Chiropractors have been part of the US Olympic team's medical staff since 1980. By 2008, the US team sent four chiropractors and appointed the first chiropractic medical director.

Sochi Winter Olympics, Sochi is a city in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located on the Black Sea
coast near the border between Georgia/Abkhazia and Russia. The Greater Sochi area totals about
1,361 sq mi, sprawls for 90 miles along the shores of the Black Sea near the Caucasus
Mountains. According to the 2010 Census, the city had a permanent population of 343,334, up
from 328,809 recorded in the 2002 Census, making it Russia's largest resort city. It is one of the
very few places in Russia with a subtropical climate, with warm to hot summers and mild
winters.
Not only will Sochi will host the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter
Games, it will also host the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix from 2014 until at least 2020 subject
to the circuit being ready in time. It is also one of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The winter Olympics give fans the rare chance to see the best athletes in the world strive to break
world records and earn coveted gold medals.
Chiropractic Care and the Olympics
Chiropractic sports medicine specialists first began treating Olympic athletes at the Olympic
Games in Mexico City, in 1968, when Dr. Leroy Perry arranged a relationship with the Aruba
team. The first official appointment of a chiropractor to the US team began with the 1980 Winter
Olympic Games in Lake Placid, New York, United States, when Dr. George Goodheart's name
was given to Irving Dardik, MD, then chairman of the USOC Sports Medicine Committee by Dr.
Stephen J. Press.
Subsequently a program was developed to screen Chiropractic Doctors at the USOTC in Colo.
Spngs., CO. And, at each subsequent games chiropractors were included with the US team, and
other national teams as well. In the 2008 Games in Beijing, the US team sent four chiropractors,
and, in another US first, i.e., they appointed Dr. Mike Reed, DC medical director of the US team.
