3. A social networking service (also known as social
networking site, SNS or social media) is an
online platform that is used by people to build
social networks or social relations with other
people who share similar personal or career
interests, activities, backgrounds or
real-life connections.

Management
System

6. History of LMS
1. Originally offer functionality beyond
instructional content such as management and
tracking, more personalized instruction, and
integration across the system.
2. Has many generic term before such as
computer-assisted learning (CAL), computer-
managed instruction (CMI), and integrated
learning systems (ILS).
3. The FirstClass by SoftArc used by United
Kingdom's Open University in the 1990s to
deliver online learning across Europe, is often
identified as the first modern learning
management system.
6
7. Features in SNS :
• Free web space
• Free web address
• Build profile
• Upload content
• Build conversations
• Create page
7
8. Features in LMS :
• Managing users, courses, roles,
instructors, and generating reports
• Making a course calendar
• Messaging and notifications
• Assessments
• Certification and trancript
8
9. Correlation
SNS is where
people
interact with
each other
virtually and
encouraged
users to share
information
and ideas.
LMS is the
where the e-
learning are
stored.
However, it
has barriers.
To overcome the
barriers, SNS is
used instead of
LMS. Since
students are
already using
social media away
from the
classroom,
integrating it into
the classroom
helps students
learn best
practices for social
media and offers
an interesting new
twist on lessons.

10. Implementation of SNS as LMS
Stepwise :
Create a
group/page
Invite
participants
Upload
educational
contents
Start
communicate
10
11. Anthony Fontana, a Learning Technologies Consultant
and an Instructor of Art at Bowling Green State
University in Ohio have successfully implemented the
SNS as LMS among his students.
11
13. Advantages
• Create and maintain networks of teachers,
administrators, business and professional
colleagues.
• An application of Bloom’s Taxonomy
1. ‘searching’= recalling
2. ‘liking’, or ‘sharing’= understanding
3. ‘subscribing’ or ‘tagging’= applying
4. ‘commenting’= analysing
5. ‘rating’= evaluating
6. collaborating sites=designing
13
14. Advantages (contd…)
• Reduce attrition through social support of peers,
teachers, education systems and external networks
• Provide opportunities and expertise in social capital
building
• Provide opportunities for learners to develop lifelong
learning networks and social skills
• Provide tools for creating, locating and tagging,
learning objects, artefacts and portfolios
• Extend and enhance learner achievement and
collaborative learning expertise.
14
15. Advantages (contd…)
• Time restrictions do not apply to the working of
SNSs, thereby extending the teaching and
learning time beyond the class hours.
• Creates a sense of community among its users by
interacting with each other.
• Improve communication skills and create
professional individuals.
• Provides free of charge features like online
collaboration, social collaboration and resource
sharing among users
15
16. Conclusion
• The used of and LMSs and SNSs for
education purposes are growing
rapidly
• The best way to make use both the
systems is by merging both.
• Safety measures have been taken,
particularly to secure personal data on
the web.
