Smoking negatively impacts health in several ways. Tar in cigarettes turns lungs black and increases the risk of cancer and heart disease for those smoking more than 25 cigarettes per day. Each cigarette reduces a person's life by an average of 11 minutes. While most smokers want to quit, over 50 million people continue smoking despite it being a leading preventable cause of death, claiming over 430,000 lives annually. Quitting smoking through nicotine replacements is the best thing a smoker can do to improve their health.
