My SMART Goal Emily Perry
My Goal: To lose weight at a rate of 1 pound a week My plan was a two prong attack; exercise and cutting out junk food. My exercise choices were running, pilates, and yoga My food choices included more nuts, yogurt, and fruit. I chose this goal after gaining weight due to quitting smoking.  Being able to run now that I’m not a smoker is amazing.  Pilates has toned muscles I didn’t realize I had.  Yoga has taught me how to decompress without cigarettes.  My body feels strong and healthy.
My influences Laziness.  I have never really had an exercise routine before, and it was hard to get myself into the routine of one. Poor eating habits.  I generally drink coffee all day, and then eat a lot at night.  This is obviously not very healthy.  Its been hard to train myself to eat during the day. Workout partner.  Having someone to go to the gym with is awesome. Great healthy food. My husband is a great chef.  And he is also trying to eat more healthy, so we did this part together. Obstacles Assets
Resources Free access to the Plymouth State gym and fitness center. Netflix that streams videos on my TV through the Wii, including pilates. We live on a pond that has great running paths all around it. Access to healthy, fresh food, year round.
I tried to exercise as many times a week as possible.  Tuesdays and Thursday, I have free time between classes, so going to the gym was the most practical.  On other days, doing a pilates video or going outside for a run was the best choice.
Evaluation… I have been steadily losing weight, which was my goal. More importantly, I feel great, have more stamina, and haven’t had a cigarette since January 1, 2010!   I will maintain this by continuing to do pilates, and running.  I may take up biking this summer.
