Big Data in Malaysia - Emerging Sector ProfileSandra Hanchard
Big Data is a buzz term with global traction. But while interest and awareness is high, is that buzz being converted effectively into significant economic activity in Malaysia? What are the inhibitors to driving Big Data solutions? And where are the opportunities we should nurture? In this presentation, Big Data Malaysia shares insights from a new survey based on a range of stakeholders in this emerging industry.
Road to Resilient Cities: Don de Loach - Centri Technology Infrastructure Wee...Smart City
The road to resilient cities, and on a broader basis, the road to a resilient society is an aspiration, but one that we should all be thinking about now. To contemplate this, we need to go back a few years. Early on, the Internet of Things discussion centered mainly around how smart products were becoming smart connected products. For example, the programmable thermostat gave way to Nest or other smart connected thermostats. Around 2013 and 2014, IoT became the new new thing. Everyone was talking about it. We were a “Networked Society” or a part of the “Internet of Everything.” But as often happens, the hype of the new trends give way to maturity and deeper insights required to go from the cool new thing to mainstream adoption. In late 2014, Michael Porter of Harvard and Jim Heppelmann of PTC co-authored a paper in the Harvard Business Review about the progression of IoT. They spoke about the move from “Products” to “Smart Products,” “Smart Connected Products,” “Products Systems,” and ultimately “Systems of Systems.”

A presentation given at TEN (The Executive Network) in London on November 6th, 2013.
There is so much talk about Big Data, yet little practical advice to help organizations deal with it. 90% of all data ever created by the human race was created in the past two years alone – and the rate is accelerating. The real revolution, though, is that only the individual will be able to access all of his or her own data – companies must come to terms with this loss of control.
What is Big Data is, and how does it impact all businesses, their people and their organizations? What strategies can you employ to deal with this data revolution? And, how can you lead change in your organization, to embrace Big Data’s impact in all of your activities?

Digitalization: A Challenge and An Opportunity for BanksJérôme Kehrli
Today’s banking industry era is strongly defined by a word - digital. The urgency to act is only getting severe each day. Banks using digital technologies to automate processes, improve regulatory compliance, and transform the customer experience may realize a profit upside of 40% or more, while laggards that resist digital innovation will be punished by customers, financial markets, regulators, and may see up to 35% of net profit eroded, according to a McKinsey analysis.
The vital question to answer is, do we get digitalization right? Why is it getting extremely urgent to digitize?
