50 years in business2014
3. Humble beginnings: With courage, motivation and a $5.00 sale, Bud Thoen founded
Douglas Machine in a small rented machine shop here in Alexandria. Since that day in 1964,
Douglas has grown throughout each decade with an uncompromising work ethic and equally
strong commitment to exceed customer expectations at every opportunity. We invite you to
take a moment to learn more about our history…
History 1964
4. A landmark year: The business began it’s true evolution in 1966, as Bud’s cousin Vern
Anderson joined the business and Douglas became officially incorporated. The newly-
founded company moved to an old automobile garage on Broadway Street, more than
quadrupling production space to 4900 square ft.
History 1966
5. Breaking new ground: Vern Anderson’s brother Paul joins the team and ground is
broken for a new 12,760 square foot facility.

employees with a vested interest in the company. As a company, we take pride in designing,
building and supporting quality packaging machines. This vision unites us as a team every
day and is the cornerstone of our customer-driven culture.
