This survey of 658 small businesses found strong interest in server virtualization to reduce costs and improve disaster recovery. However, many small businesses have only begun virtualizing and face challenges with performance, backup, and workload capacity. Due to immaturity in adopting virtualization, many small businesses are neglecting to properly protect their data and systems in virtual environments. Specifically, few small businesses backup frequently or have complete security practices like endpoint protection or firewalls in place. The recommendations are to define a virtualization strategy, secure virtual environments, and protect data.
