The document analyzes and summarizes the trailer for the horror movie "The Pact". It discusses various film techniques used to set the tone and build suspense, including the dark and deserted mise-en-scene, static and interference on phone calls, an increasing heartbeat, and shaky camera work that places the audience in the perspective of the attacker. The analysis highlights how elements like the changing lock, black screens, unnatural sounds, and juxtaposition of light and dark or safety and danger manipulate the audience's sense of unease and suspense throughout the trailer.
This 2-3 minute hand drawn animation is titled "Changing Faces" and follows Bert whose drink gets spiked at the pub, making it harder for him to chase after his dream girl. The target audience is teenage girls and families, and the concept art and animation will be distributed on YouTube and film festivals.
This document is an original screenplay titled "Type" that follows a main character who transforms into a girl. The screenplay begins with establishing shots of London at night. It then introduces the main character using a laptop in a dark room. The character transforms into a girl after hearing a noise in the bathroom. Later, the character awakens confused in a forest. A conflicting character, an older man, is also introduced. The screenplay follows the main character, now a girl, alone on a train where she sees her reflection as a boy. The final message on screen says "Dead".

The document outlines the director's vision for a play about the struggles of love set during wintertime. It proposes casting established actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Josh Gordon-Levitt, Bryan Cranston, and Betty White in main roles to portray the complex emotions. The spine of the play will focus on the conflicts between couples. Ambient lighting on a sparse proscenium stage will portray the isolation of the characters. Naturalism and actually enacting violent scenes are intended to make the audience sympathize with the internal struggles over love. Winter motifs like cold, snow, and characters' reactions will pervade the play, until a warm fireplace scene provides closure.
Film lighting and color can be used to create different moods and effects. The temperature of light can vary from cool blues and grays for somber scenes to warm pinks and golds for romantic scenes. Cinematographers use filters and digital manipulation to adjust colors. Whole films are sometimes desaturated in post-production to achieve a particular look, as with O Brother, Where Art Thou? which was given an old, dusty look. Spot lighting, backlighting, and directional light can also create dramatic effects and silhouettes that impact the audience. Occasionally black and white is used instead of color for specific artistic reasons.
The storyboard introduces two separate characters that live separate lives in separate countries. It establishes the themes of travel and romance through title cards and shots that show the characters' journeys towards one another on a gap year. The board then hints at the film's narrative of the struggle for the couple to stay together after falling in love while traveling, before concluding with a final title card that reinforces the overarching themes of travel and love.

It used the conventions of having a final girl character who survives to tell the story, killing the promiscuous character first in an isolated wooded location filmed in low light. It also used dark coloring and red symbolism. The project developed conventions like portraying the promiscuous character initially paired with but then leaving the "jock" character, seemingly causing her death, and having teenagers from different social groups work together when one goes missing.
This document discusses how filmic analysis and literary analysis has evolved to include other art forms such as paintings, photographs, and video games. The document uses the video game Dying Light as an example, summarizing the game's plot about airdropping into a city overrun by zombies and helping survivors. It argues that philosophies from thinkers like Deleuze, Agamben, Kafka, Benjamin, Derrida, and Nietzsche can be applied to understand modern
The short film "Gravity" represents the theme of gun violence and its real-life impacts. It is set in a housing estate occupied by youth culture. The film uses realistic locations, costumes, dialogue and sounds to tell the story of a child alone on a playground who is shot due to the mishandling of guns. Various camera shots and angles are used to create realism and suspense, slowly revealing the plot until the final scene where the camera zooms out over the estate after the tragedy.
The document discusses the use of lighting - both diegetic (part of the scene) and non-diegetic (added for effect) - in thriller film scenes. It analyzes how different lighting techniques like candlelight, street lights, projectors and emergency signs set tones like warmth, drama, and unease. Specific shots are examined where diegetic lighting is used to emphasize characters, create dark atmospheres, or hint at impending danger through the contrast of light and dark.
The document discusses lighting techniques used in romantic film scenes. It explains that warm color temperatures like orange create a romantic atmosphere, while cooler blues do not. It also notes that lower-key, darker scenes with more shadows can feel more sensual and intimate compared to brighter, higher-key scenes. Finally, it discusses the quality of light, stating that softer lighting with more diffused shadows tends to create a more sentimental feel, as seen in classic films like Casablanca.
1) Short films are defined as original motion pictures under 40 minutes that are often screened at film festivals. They must draw audiences in quickly by compressing narratives and are more likely to have open endings that leave questions.
2) The student's short film "Luna" falls under the crime mystery genre about a girl searching for her missing cousin. It uses unconventional editing between dream sequences and reality to explore themes like life and death.
3) The film has an open ending through the use of an "enigma code" where the audience is left questioning what happened to the missing cousin, similar to other short films analyzed. This leaves room for different interpretations of the narrative.

Annabelle involves demonic possession of a doll, while Sinister centers around a serial killer known as "Mr. Boogie" who encourages children to murder their families. Though the plots differ, both films effectively provoke anxiety and horror in audiences. The document also notes differences in themes, characters, and death tolls between the two films.
The document provides a summary of shots from a film trailer that set up tension and mystery. It describes shots showing the main character traveling by carriage through isolated wetlands to reach the derelict Eel Marsh house surrounded by overgrown plants and mist. Dialogue reveals unsettling details about the house and why no one wants to buy it. The trailer then shows disturbing old photographs from the house with scratched out faces and a faded face in the window to further unsettle the audience before the character enters the feared house.

It effectively uses contrast, fading, and shadows to match the horror genre while hiding details that could give away the plot.
In a questionnaire, 9 out of 26 respondents chose the font IMPACT LABEL for a magazine masthead. The font stood out as being bold, matching influences like NME and Kerrang magazines. Respondents likely chose it because IMPACT LABEL gives magazines a punchy look that suits attracting young, rebellious teenagers. The font would work well in black/white or red/white color combinations for the masthead.
1) The Rolling Stone magazine frequently has cover images that overlap the masthead, which is recognizable even when partially obscured, in contrast to music magazine Q.
2) The Rolling Stone uses consistent fonts across issues but varies cover colors like pink, red or yellow, with complimentary text colors.
3) Rolling Stone covers usually feature clear celebrity portrait shots in a studio setting, securing only successful artists, giving it a more upmarket, sophisticated look versus magazines like Kerrang and NME.
The document provides an evaluation of a media studies project creating a music magazine. It summarizes how the magazine uses conventions of real music magazines in its layout, images, and design. It represents indie/fashionable social groups and would appeal to a young, female audience. The goal is to show attitude and individuality through the photographs.
The document provides instructions to modify a poster or publication by lining up text on a grid, removing an image, making yellow text a darker shade of yellow, changing the issue date, improving a barcode, and adding a colon after "Plus artist".
The document discusses the layout and design choices for a magazine inspired by NME. It aims to target a similar 17-25 year old audience. Photos in NME capture natural, less posed moments compared to magazines like Vogue, showing more personality. Famous images in NME attract readers through their portrayal of attitude, not following conventions by showing things like smoking that other magazines wouldn't. The document also discusses using documentary-style and polaroid photos, as well as cover lines similar to NME's promoting tickets and posters to engage the target audience.
The document discusses revisions made to a school magazine cover and contents page based on feedback. The front cover was meant to be simple and clear while appealing to school pupils. Criticism included adding a tagline and changing the "School today" font color to match the cover. The final contents page incorporated this feedback by adding a tagline consistent with the cover theme and changing the "School today" font color to match the cover color.
Graphs and analysis of music questionnaire and answersIsabelMcclelland
The document summarizes the results of a questionnaire about music preferences that was given to 26 people aged under 25. Key results included that indie and reggae were the most popular genres, and that features on festivals, gigs, and information about ticket purchases would attract readers. Most respondents said they would pay up to £3.50 for the magazine and would buy it monthly. These results will help focus the content and design of a new music magazine targeted at this audience.
The document discusses photos selected for a school's yearbook to convey different messages. A photo of students relaxed on benches holding schoolwork was chosen to show a balanced attitude of work and relaxation. An image of a street was selected to promote local shops and restaurants, and go with the kicker line "Free Map Inside." A third photo displays a positive attitude towards school and hard work, to match the kicker line "10 WAYS."

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
