Slasher
Wikipedia Definition Slasher film is a sub-genre of the horror film genre typically involving a psychopathic killer stalking, and killing a sequence of victims in a graphically violent manner, often with a cutting tool such as a chainsaw or scythe. Although the term "Slasher" may be used as a generic term for any horror movie involving graphic acts of murder, the Slasher as a genre has its own set of characteristics which set it apart from related genres like the splatter film

Slasher cycles. Slasher films have a typical story that are often repeated or copied into other films. The typical ‘cycle’ runs like this: A normal person experiences something horrible and becomes a psychopathic killer. Begin: The killer returns to the site of the event, which is normally significant to the title of the film. Mid: The killer stalks a group of teens , and chases them so he can graphically kill them End: The final girl survives and defeats the villain, even though he normally never truly dies.
Slasher Parody Because these films are so self-referential and repetitive the Slasher film genre gave way to a sudden growth in parodies and horror-comedy. Saturday the 14th and Scream include the typical body gore of the genre but they mimic famous shots and actions and juxtapose them into something that the audience will find amusing. This also mocked the fact that film-makers now had the abillity to do ‘no strings attached’ gore scenes that Looked real. The parody tended to use very obviously fake wounds and obvious make-up 1981 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NmRGR45azo
Summary Slasher films are different from normal horror because there is much information given about the main characters and instead they focus on the final girl’s attempts to survive. This allows film makers to add sexual connotations to the girls life and the way she is hunted down. The main consistency in this genre is that these films normally fall under the ‘Uncanny’ title because the killer normally has a very easily understood background and/or semi-realistic mental problems. Third Wave Feminism: This movement was made to establish that women should define feminism themselves and that it is a fluid term that changes by generation. This explains why many ‘final girls’ became the toughest and often the hero of the story as they refused to be seen as the weak and easily ‘picked off’ The best ‘final girls’ reappear in may films and earn the title the ‘Scream Queen’
