This document provides guidance on preventing and treating skin infections in athletes. It discusses that skin infections occur when breaks in the skin allow bacteria, fungi or viruses to grow uncontrolled. Lesions of concern are those with irregular borders, raised areas, moisture, different colors or warmth compared to surrounding skin. Proper hygiene, showering after activities, and disinfecting shared equipment can prevent spread. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics, fungal infections with antifungals, while viral infections cannot be cured.
