This document provides guidance on developing skills, tactics, and decision making for coaching athletes. It recommends coaching athletes to become their own coaches through a process of planning sessions, priming athletes, having them do drills or compete, and then providing feedback. Tactics and techniques should be isolated and practiced in stages, making them more complex over time. A skills model is presented that involves progressing from unconscious incompetence to unconscious competence. Decision making can be improved by reflecting on cues, decisions, actions, and outcomes through asking questions.
