This document defines situational leadership and describes its key elements. Situational leadership holds that management should use different leadership styles depending on the situation. It aims to match the leader's style to the development level of the follower. There are four development levels ranging from low competence/high commitment to high competence/high commitment. Similarly, there are four leadership styles ranging from telling/directing to delegating. The situational leadership model provides guidance on which leadership style to apply based on the follower's development level.
