Significance and Importance of Studying the Life of Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
Studying the life of Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ is like studying history of Islam. It is the biography of our
most beloved's life and the history of our Religion-Loving Him ‫ﷺ‬ is ibadah, part of obeying Allah and it
is part of our Deen. Muslims even non-Muslims should abide by golden principles of the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
if they want to live a successful life. Who so ever obeys Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ indeed he obeys Allah too
because obedience of the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ is equal to the obedience of Allah Almighty.
‘He who obeys the Messenger ‫ﷺ‬ has indeed obeyed Allah’
 Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ the Final Prophet
In Surah 33, the Quran makes the following statement: ‘Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ is not the father of any of your
men, but is the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the Prophets (Khatam al-Nabiyyin)'
 The Bearer of the Quran
As the recipient of the last Divine Book, Muhammad is thus its chief interpreter (exegete). This is
founded upon a number of Quranic passages, such as the following:
‘Your Companion [Muhammad] is neither astray nor being misled, nor does he speak from (his own)
desire. It is no less than Inspiration sent down to Him’
 The Lawgiver
Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ legal rulings are thus considered to be binding on the Muslim community. In Surah-al-
Baqarah (the second and longest Chapter of the Quran), the following command is given to the Muslim
community: ‘And establish prayer and give charity [literally zakat] and bow with those who bow’
 Political Orientations
As we have seen, Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ example runs throughout the Islamic tradition. His ideas regarding
political authority and political involvement are thus also deeply influential. It is worth noting that Islamic
political thought is a complex topic. It is, though, safe to say that all of the political systems used in the
Muslim world orient themselves to Islam and Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ example in one way or another. Holy
Quran as His words, sentences, speeches, deeds and actions are divinely guided and all these things are a
great source to lead a successful Islamic life.
 Eliminations of All Social Evils
All social evils, moral diseases, vicious and sinful deeds can be eliminated and eradicated if all the
Muslims follow foot-marks of the Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬
‘And follow Him so that you may be guided’
 Spiritual and Moral benefit of Seerat-e-Nabi
Human beings are facing problematic circumstances due to increasing tension, stress, frustration,
nervousness, disappointment and despondency, Study of Seerat-un-Nabi provides dispensation of all the
spiritual and psychological diseases.
It is feed of soul. Mounting tensions, worries and anxieties can be defused and can be brought to an end.
‘Obey Allah and the Messenger ‫ﷺ‬ and perhaps you will be shown mercy.
 Greatest Success
‘And who so ever obeys Allah and His Messenger he has indeed achieved a great success’
(i.e.- he will be saved from the fire of hell and he will be allowed to enter into the paradise).
 Un-ending Guidance
Life of Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ is self-evident and for eternal and un-ending guidance and deep effect upon our
beliefs. All human beings of every age of era can seek guidance. Forever from teachings of the Holy
Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ they can be benefited from.
 Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ as the Best of Allah’s Creatures and the Solution of
Every Problem
Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ authority and significance are not limited to Quranic interpretation and legal injunctions;
indeed, they extend far beyond these areas. That is, Muhammad is seen as a role model in a much broader
sense. The concept lying behind such traditions is that Muhammad, as the final, chosen Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ of
Allah, is believed to be the ‘Best of Allah’s Creatures’ (khayr khalq illah). A very famous tradition,
attributed to his wife Aisha, states that: ‘His conduct was the Quran’
"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow" al-Quran
It is the need of hour for every man and woman to seek solution of every problems of current era by
following the foot prints of the Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ Doubtlessly we can solve and resolve all outstanding
issue, disputes, and discards to remove.
Methodology of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ for Self-Purification and Character Building
 Meaning
Self-Purification(Tazkia-e-Nafs) means the purification or the cleansing of all those things which are
unwholesome and unwelcome and unwanted. At the same time, it endows the human being with all those
things which are essential for growth and development, for blossoming and flowering.
Character-Building means improving certain good or useful traits in a person’s character, self-reliance,
endurance and courage. Tazkia, one might say, is a short-hand word for entire concept of character-
building.
 Importance and Significance
In a Muslim, who seeks to lead a life in accordance with the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet ‫,ﷺ‬
there is present this particular pattern of thought and behavior, a pattern in which certain things cannot be
juxtaposed that are not germane to it, that are foreign to it. If one studies Hadith, he will find the Prophet
‫ﷺ‬ again and again saying that a Muslim cannot do this or that act, simply because of the fact that he is a
Muslim. And if there is any one “central theme” of the Qur’an, it is the guiding of Man along the Right
Path. This is what leads to Character-Building. Following the Qur’an will produce a particular pattern of
life in the individual and in the society. What goes to make up this central theme of the Qur’an is beyond
estimation. That this central theme is closely bound up with the Character-Building is amply borne out by
the fact that the mission of the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ has been described in the Qur’an by the word Tazkia.
 Purification in other Religions
In some Religions, the act of removing from a person usually by a ceremony, the bad effects that they are
suffering because they have broken a religious or moral is called the process of purification. This
purification of heart and minds is a universal message of all the religions.
 Islamic Concept of Purification
Islamic concept of purification is based on sanctity and piety, card reading and righteousness
rightmindedness. The quality of having strong moral principles like honesty and decency, modesty and
chastity, nobility and devotion to Allah an affecting the human soul and spirit to be rightness and virtuous
is said to be a purification.
 Methodology of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ for Purification of Self
1. Fearing Allah:
Fearing Allah is a path that the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ taught us to be followed. In order to guide the people who
desired balance, purity, self-knowledge and inner illumination says Allah in the Qur’an:
‘O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared’.
The Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ said ‘Seven kinds of people will be sheltered under the shade of Allah on the day of
Judgement’. -among them there is one who when invited to sin, declines saying: ‘I fear Allah’
2. Fear of Hereafter:
This is the second method of self-purification. A Muslim should never be unmindful of the preparations
for the Hereafter. Those who do not do so and lead a life free from fear of Allah and torments of the
Hereafter, will have no hesitation in disobeying Allah, which will inevitably lead them to humiliation,
disgrace and heavy punishment in the Hereafter.
3. Self-Control:
Self-control is necessary for any spiritual progress. Unless the higher mind is strengthened and given the
will power to master the impulses of the flesh mind, there will be little room for Allah to dwell with that
mind. Thus, central to the religious life is self-control.
4. Worships:
As for Islam, its conception of worship is related to its fundamental view that the true foundations of a
good life are soundness of belief and thinking, purity of soul, and righteousness of action. The pillars of
Islam play major role in getting self-purification.
5. Repentance:
It should not be forgotten that nobody in this universe is sinless except Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ of Allah and His
favored ones. If a person sins, all he needs to do is truly repent from his heart, and he will find Allah Ever
Merciful. The Noble Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ said:
‘Nothing is more favorable to Allah than a male or female repentant believer.’
6. Good and Virtuous Company:
For self-purification, one should ought to be with the righteous people. In Surah Tauba, Allah says: ‘And
be with those who are true (in words and deeds)’.
7. Moderation:
Allah says in Holy Qur’an: ‘Verily, Allah enjoys Al-Adl’. Allah likes that good action which is done
regularly, even if it is a small one. Any good deed which is done continuously will also have an
everlasting reward. On the contrary, a good deed which is done for a short period will have a short return.
If a believer dies without having achieved Tazkiah in this life, then Allah will begin his Tazkiah as soon
as he enters to prepare him for paradise.
‘Gardens of Eternity beneath which river flow…such is the reward of those who purify themselves (of
evil)’.
Ten Blessed Companions, Azwaj un Nabi ‫ﷺ‬ and His Off springs
Ten Blessed Companions
Ashrah Mubashrah in Qur’an, are known to be the Ten Companions of Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ who were awarded
by the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ himself while they were alive, as His Companions in the Heaven too. These lucky
people never left Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ alone in His all life. These Ten Companions had bared al possible losses.
They had been tortured numerously but never left the Path of Islam or Muhammad ‫.ﷺ‬ They are the
witnesses of Prophethood everywhere while they preach.
In a Hadith Mubarikah, it is like
Abu Bakar ‘Siddique’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Umar ‘Farooq’ (r.a) is in Heaven,
Usman ‘Ghani’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Ali ‘Murtaza’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Zubair (r.a) is in Heaven, Abdul
Rehman ‘son of Ouf’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Abu Obaida (r.a) is in Heaven, Sa’d ‘son of Abi Waqas (r.a) is
in Heaven, Talha (r.a) is in Heaven and Saeed ‘son of Zaid’ (r.a) is in Heaven’.

Significance & Importance of Studying the Life of Holy Prophet (S.A.W)

  • 1. Prepared by Shefa Idrees Significance and Importance of Studying the Life of Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ Studying the life of Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ is like studying history of Islam. It is the biography of our most beloved's life and the history of our Religion-Loving Him ‫ﷺ‬ is ibadah, part of obeying Allah and it is part of our Deen. Muslims even non-Muslims should abide by golden principles of the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ if they want to live a successful life. Who so ever obeys Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ indeed he obeys Allah too because obedience of the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ is equal to the obedience of Allah Almighty. ‘He who obeys the Messenger ‫ﷺ‬ has indeed obeyed Allah’  Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ the Final Prophet In Surah 33, the Quran makes the following statement: ‘Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ is not the father of any of your men, but is the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the Prophets (Khatam al-Nabiyyin)'  The Bearer of the Quran As the recipient of the last Divine Book, Muhammad is thus its chief interpreter (exegete). This is founded upon a number of Quranic passages, such as the following: ‘Your Companion [Muhammad] is neither astray nor being misled, nor does he speak from (his own) desire. It is no less than Inspiration sent down to Him’  The Lawgiver Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ legal rulings are thus considered to be binding on the Muslim community. In Surah-al- Baqarah (the second and longest Chapter of the Quran), the following command is given to the Muslim community: ‘And establish prayer and give charity [literally zakat] and bow with those who bow’  Political Orientations As we have seen, Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ example runs throughout the Islamic tradition. His ideas regarding political authority and political involvement are thus also deeply influential. It is worth noting that Islamic political thought is a complex topic. It is, though, safe to say that all of the political systems used in the Muslim world orient themselves to Islam and Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ example in one way or another. Holy Quran as His words, sentences, speeches, deeds and actions are divinely guided and all these things are a great source to lead a successful Islamic life.  Eliminations of All Social Evils All social evils, moral diseases, vicious and sinful deeds can be eliminated and eradicated if all the Muslims follow foot-marks of the Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ ‘And follow Him so that you may be guided’
  • 2.  Spiritual and Moral benefit of Seerat-e-Nabi Human beings are facing problematic circumstances due to increasing tension, stress, frustration, nervousness, disappointment and despondency, Study of Seerat-un-Nabi provides dispensation of all the spiritual and psychological diseases. It is feed of soul. Mounting tensions, worries and anxieties can be defused and can be brought to an end. ‘Obey Allah and the Messenger ‫ﷺ‬ and perhaps you will be shown mercy.  Greatest Success ‘And who so ever obeys Allah and His Messenger he has indeed achieved a great success’ (i.e.- he will be saved from the fire of hell and he will be allowed to enter into the paradise).  Un-ending Guidance Life of Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ is self-evident and for eternal and un-ending guidance and deep effect upon our beliefs. All human beings of every age of era can seek guidance. Forever from teachings of the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ they can be benefited from.  Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ as the Best of Allah’s Creatures and the Solution of Every Problem Muhammad’s ‫ﷺ‬ authority and significance are not limited to Quranic interpretation and legal injunctions; indeed, they extend far beyond these areas. That is, Muhammad is seen as a role model in a much broader sense. The concept lying behind such traditions is that Muhammad, as the final, chosen Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ of Allah, is believed to be the ‘Best of Allah’s Creatures’ (khayr khalq illah). A very famous tradition, attributed to his wife Aisha, states that: ‘His conduct was the Quran’ "Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow" al-Quran It is the need of hour for every man and woman to seek solution of every problems of current era by following the foot prints of the Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ Doubtlessly we can solve and resolve all outstanding issue, disputes, and discards to remove. Methodology of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ for Self-Purification and Character Building  Meaning Self-Purification(Tazkia-e-Nafs) means the purification or the cleansing of all those things which are unwholesome and unwelcome and unwanted. At the same time, it endows the human being with all those things which are essential for growth and development, for blossoming and flowering.
  • 3. Character-Building means improving certain good or useful traits in a person’s character, self-reliance, endurance and courage. Tazkia, one might say, is a short-hand word for entire concept of character- building.  Importance and Significance In a Muslim, who seeks to lead a life in accordance with the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet ‫,ﷺ‬ there is present this particular pattern of thought and behavior, a pattern in which certain things cannot be juxtaposed that are not germane to it, that are foreign to it. If one studies Hadith, he will find the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ again and again saying that a Muslim cannot do this or that act, simply because of the fact that he is a Muslim. And if there is any one “central theme” of the Qur’an, it is the guiding of Man along the Right Path. This is what leads to Character-Building. Following the Qur’an will produce a particular pattern of life in the individual and in the society. What goes to make up this central theme of the Qur’an is beyond estimation. That this central theme is closely bound up with the Character-Building is amply borne out by the fact that the mission of the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ has been described in the Qur’an by the word Tazkia.  Purification in other Religions In some Religions, the act of removing from a person usually by a ceremony, the bad effects that they are suffering because they have broken a religious or moral is called the process of purification. This purification of heart and minds is a universal message of all the religions.  Islamic Concept of Purification Islamic concept of purification is based on sanctity and piety, card reading and righteousness rightmindedness. The quality of having strong moral principles like honesty and decency, modesty and chastity, nobility and devotion to Allah an affecting the human soul and spirit to be rightness and virtuous is said to be a purification.  Methodology of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ for Purification of Self 1. Fearing Allah: Fearing Allah is a path that the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ taught us to be followed. In order to guide the people who desired balance, purity, self-knowledge and inner illumination says Allah in the Qur’an: ‘O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared’. The Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ said ‘Seven kinds of people will be sheltered under the shade of Allah on the day of Judgement’. -among them there is one who when invited to sin, declines saying: ‘I fear Allah’ 2. Fear of Hereafter: This is the second method of self-purification. A Muslim should never be unmindful of the preparations for the Hereafter. Those who do not do so and lead a life free from fear of Allah and torments of the Hereafter, will have no hesitation in disobeying Allah, which will inevitably lead them to humiliation, disgrace and heavy punishment in the Hereafter.
  • 4. 3. Self-Control: Self-control is necessary for any spiritual progress. Unless the higher mind is strengthened and given the will power to master the impulses of the flesh mind, there will be little room for Allah to dwell with that mind. Thus, central to the religious life is self-control. 4. Worships: As for Islam, its conception of worship is related to its fundamental view that the true foundations of a good life are soundness of belief and thinking, purity of soul, and righteousness of action. The pillars of Islam play major role in getting self-purification. 5. Repentance: It should not be forgotten that nobody in this universe is sinless except Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ of Allah and His favored ones. If a person sins, all he needs to do is truly repent from his heart, and he will find Allah Ever Merciful. The Noble Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ said: ‘Nothing is more favorable to Allah than a male or female repentant believer.’ 6. Good and Virtuous Company: For self-purification, one should ought to be with the righteous people. In Surah Tauba, Allah says: ‘And be with those who are true (in words and deeds)’. 7. Moderation: Allah says in Holy Qur’an: ‘Verily, Allah enjoys Al-Adl’. Allah likes that good action which is done regularly, even if it is a small one. Any good deed which is done continuously will also have an everlasting reward. On the contrary, a good deed which is done for a short period will have a short return. If a believer dies without having achieved Tazkiah in this life, then Allah will begin his Tazkiah as soon as he enters to prepare him for paradise. ‘Gardens of Eternity beneath which river flow…such is the reward of those who purify themselves (of evil)’. Ten Blessed Companions, Azwaj un Nabi ‫ﷺ‬ and His Off springs Ten Blessed Companions Ashrah Mubashrah in Qur’an, are known to be the Ten Companions of Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ who were awarded by the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ himself while they were alive, as His Companions in the Heaven too. These lucky people never left Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ alone in His all life. These Ten Companions had bared al possible losses. They had been tortured numerously but never left the Path of Islam or Muhammad ‫.ﷺ‬ They are the witnesses of Prophethood everywhere while they preach.
  • 5. In a Hadith Mubarikah, it is like Abu Bakar ‘Siddique’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Umar ‘Farooq’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Usman ‘Ghani’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Ali ‘Murtaza’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Zubair (r.a) is in Heaven, Abdul Rehman ‘son of Ouf’ (r.a) is in Heaven, Abu Obaida (r.a) is in Heaven, Sa’d ‘son of Abi Waqas (r.a) is in Heaven, Talha (r.a) is in Heaven and Saeed ‘son of Zaid’ (r.a) is in Heaven’. Azwaj un Nabi ‫ﷺ‬ Hazrat Khadija (r.a) (Umm e Hindh) Undoubtedly Hazrat Khadija (r.a) is known to be the First Wife of Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ Hazrat Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ was 25 years old only when Hazrat Khadija married Him. Before marrying to Hazrat Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ She (r.a) was married twice. Hazrat Khadija is the one Luckiest Person to whom Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ told about Allah’s Gift as to be chosen as the Last Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ and about the first inspiration He ‫ﷺ‬ got from Allah. She was died far before Migration. Mostly, Historians accord in their history that all of the six children Hazrat Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ had were from Her (r.a). Hazrat Soudah (r.a) The second Wife of Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ Hazrat Soudah (r.a) was a Widow too. She was among those few people who joined Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ from very start. She died after in the last days of the Hazrat Umar’s (r.a) regime. Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa (r.a) (Umm e Abdullah: Ascribed to Her maternal nephew) Hazrat Aisha (r.a) got the honor of becoming the third Wife of Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ She was the only Wife who was virgin, born of Muslim spouses and to whom Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ Himself taught all the special problems that women usually face and also ordered Her to educate other Wives and women too. She was a great Islamic Intellectual scholar and scholar of the Holy Qur’an, Hadith, Medical Sciences, Islamic Jurisprudence, Poetry and genealogies. She had narrated 2210 Hadiths. She lived for 45 more years after Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ left this Provisional World. Hazrat Hafsah (r.a) She (r.a) was an educated and intelligent woman. She (r.a) had narrated 60 Hadiths. She (r.a) was a devoted worshipper and very kind hearted woman. She (r.a) was a Widow, Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ married Her according to a Hadith. She (r.a) had kept fast when She (r.a) died in Medina Munawara at the age of 40. Hazrat Zainab (r.a) (Ummu l Masakeen) She was a generous benefactor. She (r.a) was a Widow too. She (r.a) used to help poor orphans during all Her life. She (r.a) died at the age of 30 years only after three months of Her marriage with Muhammad ‫.ﷺ‬
  • 6. Hazrat Umm e Salma (r.a) She was the 6th Wife of Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ After Hazrat Aisha (r.a) She (r.a) was second well-educated and a scholar Lady. She was a Widow of Hazrat Abdullah bin Asad (r.a). She (r.a) died at the age of 84 years but there are differences about Her year of death. Hazrat Zainab (r.a) (Ummu l Hakam) She was the paternal cousin of the Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ Her first Husband was adopted son of Holy Prophet ‫:ﷺ‬ Hazrat Zaid bin Haris (r.a). Anyhow, this marriage wasn’t successful and Hazrat Zaid (r.a) divorced Hazrat Zainab (r.a). After this, Allah Almighty enjoined Hazrat Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ to marry Hazrat Zainab (r.a). So, Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ married Her. She was the first who among all the Wives of Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ left behind. Hazrat Ramlah (r.a) (Umm e Habiba) According to Historians, She (r.a) is known to be the 8th Wife of Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ Her husband turned into a Christian after Migrating to Habsha but She (r.a) remained on Her Islamic Religion and so both of these separated. When Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ was told about Her, He send Her the message of Marriage Which She (r.a) accepted happily. She died in 45. Hazrat Javeria (r.a) Hazrat Javeria (r.a) was Honored to be the Ninth Wife of Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ She (r.a) was a Widow. She was captured by Sabit bin Ansari (r.a) and became prisoner. She requested Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ to pay the ransom. Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ paid her ransom without any condition. She (r.a) was freed. She (r.a) requested Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ to marry Her and this request was accepted by Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬ She (r.a) died at the age of 65 in 50. Hazrat Mamoonah (r.a) She got married twice before this marriage. Her 1st husband divorced Her because of their own misunderstandings while the other one died after some time of their marriage. Most of the Historians are not confirmed about Her year of death or age but according to a Hadith from Bukhari Sharif, She died in 50. Hazrat Safiah (r.a) She was actually a Jew. Her actual name was Zainab but latterly known as Safiah (r.a). Her number was 11 among Holy Prophet’s ‫ﷺ‬ Wives. Note: Names written in braces () are patronymic names of the Wives of Holy Prophet ‫.ﷺ‬
  • 7. Off springs A hundred and thousands of Historians agreed on it that the Holy Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ had two Sons and four Daughters. All of them were from Hazrat Khadija. Transformation of the Social Order Ignorant Arab Society The untaught and illiterate society of Arabs was a society of fierce tribes, men there were many small, uncivilized and uncultured barbarous and brutish tribes which continued the wars for a long time without any reason. Social Discrimination and Social Inequality There were no ethical rules in Arab. Arab Society was divided into two main groups: richest & poorest. Worst Kind of Slavery Poor people were being enslaved, they were beaten harshly by their ruthless lords. Status of Women In the ignorant Arab Society, Women had no respect at all. They were gambled on and buried alive Sinful Life In the ignorant Arab Society, every kind of hell activities were on their peak.
