Sighisoara is located in Transylvania, Romania and is one of the few fortified towns in Europe still inhabited today. It has a long defensive wall with 14 towers and 5 artillery bastions, with 9 towers, 2 bastions and part of the wall still preserved. The Clock Tower is a prominent landmark in the town, standing at 64 meters tall with 6 floors. The town hosts an annual Medieval Music Festival celebrating medieval culture with music, exhibitions, and competitions.

protected by the guilds consisted in a
long wall of 930m, 14 defence towers

It was built to
protect the main
gate of the town
and to house
the Council. The
Clock Tower was
also useful to
depositing the
archives and
treasury of
Sighisoara.

Sighisoara The Torture Chamber
is hosted by The Clock Tower. The
History Museum displays
collections thematically arranged
in separate rooms: archaeology,
pharmacy, furniture, crafts and
guilds, ancient clocks, arms.
6. The Vlad Dracul
House
is the most ancient civil
stone construction of
the city. Today the
house serves as a
restaurant. Sighisoara is
the birthplace of Vlad
Tepes (the inspiration
for Bram Stoker's
character Dracula)
7. The House With Stag
Is called after the stag head fixed to the corner of the building.
8. The Central City Square
Was in the Middle Age a market and a trial place for actions at law.
9. The School on the Hill
was built in 1607-1608
The Covered Stairway
Next to the School Street was
built in 1642 a covered wooden
stairway named the Covered
Stairs. The stair was to facilitate
the schoolchildren's way to the
School on the Hill during
winter.

built at the
beginning
of the 13th
century.
