Access to Information
Access to Information The Widening Gap
The Digital Divide is a buzz phrase heard today in North America. It refers to the growing divide
between people who have and do not have access to information specifically via the internet. There
are various forms of digital divides but the one that is the most despair is the global digital divide
between industrialized countries and developing nations. Optimists feel that the internet and
information it carries brings potential to societies of developing nations but pessimists feel that the
internet offers no new potential for developing nations but rather it reinforces existing divisions of
inequality. Various positive and negative outlookswill be delved into in this essay to give a ... Show

The argument here is: how could the global digital divide be on the top of the agenda if these
countries are not even having their basic needs met? UNESCO (United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization) emphasizes that most of the world s population lacks basic
access to a telephone, let alone a computer. If developing countries lack traditional media and
information communication technologies then it s quite a reality that the internet will just be another
piece of technology that creates a bigger gap between the information haves and have nots.
Although technology has always held potential as an engine of economic growth for
transforming developing nations, critics argue that in practice this promise has often mainly
served to benefit the industrialized worlds (Pippa, p6). The internet was originally an English
text medium and although it is now graphic it is fair to say that it is still very much a text based,
therefore users also must be literate. If basic literacy is a barrier to access most of the world poor
could be excluded from the information revolution even if computing equipment became more
widely available (Pippa, p59). One fifth of the world s population remains illiterate and the total
rises to 40 percent or more of those living in Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Asia
(Pippa, p59). Not only must an internet user be literate but since most of the language on the

The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights
With the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), the concept of human rights has gradually
become one of the most commonly accepted universal norms, referred to in United Nations
resolutions, national constitutions and regional and international treaties. Even so, human rights
violations occur on an almost daily basis in countries around the world. The term seems to be at the
forefront of contemporary political discourses, with its meaning at most times remaining unclear. In
theory, human rightsserve the sole purpose of protecting the inherent dignity of all representatives of
the human family (UDHR 1948) However, there is much disagreement when it comes to
theoretically justifying that each human being has rights by virtue... Show more content on

This will then serve as a basis for my main argument that human rights are socially constructed and
do not exist outside of the realm of politics. This will then feed into the second part of the question
where I shall discuss the prioritisation of community values over an alleged universal foundation.
Structure
The first part of the essay will concern itself with a more genealogical approach by looking at
early philosophical origins of human rights and how these evolved over the years. With this I seek
to outline the fact that while efforts to institutionalise human rights were initially a reaction towards
global injustice and oppression, in contemporary politics they are used to create power relations,
and implicitly, inequality. This will provide a good basis for the second part in which I will look at
the incompatibilities within the theory religion versus Rawls consensus based theory. Analysing the
multitude of frameworks with their different ways of approaching and grounding rights underlines
and reinforces the fact that there can t be a universal foundation for human rights. The third part
will deal with the fact that trying to ground rights into one universal foundation creates an
exclusion of those who are different and how we can seek to move away from this problem.
Natural Law and Natural Rights
The origin of the modern rights discourse is that of natural law dating back to antiquity. Plato was
one of the first advocates for a universal

Negative Effects Of Texting And Driving
Texting has had an enormous impact on the way everyone talks to one another. It has caused
minimal verbal communication, spelling and grammar has gone down the drain along with
driving safety, paying attention in or at school/work, it has even impacted bullying in schools.
Texting causes people to rely on spell check/auto correct and actual verbal communication has
significantly declined. Texting also causes people to pay less attention to the road because they
stay buried in their phones. Texting and driving is extremely dangerous and it is frequently
done. Everyday almost nine people die in car accidents due to texting and driving. Driving while
distracted can be looking away from the road, removing your hands away from the steering
wheel, or even thinking about something irrelevant while driving. Texting and driving has to do
with removing hands from the steering wheel, looking at a phone and thinking about what your
doing on the phone. People who decided not to pay attention while driving Caused around 3,477
people to die and 391,000 to be injured in 2015. People who text while driving causes over a
thousand people to get hurt everyday. Texting and driving has been fought, but still continues to
happen everyday. Safe drivers are being punished everyday for the recklessness and carelessness of
texting and driving. ( Motor Vehicle Safety ). Texting offensive things to one another is a form of
bullying. Just like any other form, cyber

year. I was happy, my friends,my colleagues, my seniors everyone was happy because we were
about to leave for the biggest party of the year. Every year our company organizes this biggest

But there was a little problem. My love my angel my sweetheart my wife pari, she was waiting for

Interviewing is one of the specified form of communication between a consenting person for a
Specific purpose associated with some agreed subject matter. Therefore, the interview is a highly
purposeful task that goes beyond ordinary conversation and involves several approaches (Johnson

following; the history, how it relates to the outsiders, plot, setting, the actors, and other important
details. Grease is a movie about love and friendship. It s funny, charming, and at times a bit
inappropriate. Grease came out on June 13, 1978. It was directed by Randal Kleiser, and
produced by Paramount Pictures. Most of the movie was filmed somewhere in California. Grease

What happens is that Danny and Sandy change their look for eachother. So Danny dresses all
preppy with a cardigan, which is Sandy s personality. Sandy shows up in her black leather pants
and black shirt, like how the gang dresses. They did this without knowing that each other were
changing. It s funny because Sandy tries to act like Danny, but she doesn t know how, so she s
just really awkward in that scene. Once Danny sees Sandy he throws off his cardigan, and they
break into song. The movie Grease relates to the Outsiders mainly because it was written in the
same time frame. Grease had the same sort of view as the Outsiders. There is Danny and his
friends and Sandy and the Pink girls are the more popular people. The other group of people is
another group of popular people from another school. In Grease, there are never any fights
really, the only thing that ever happened between them was the Drag race between the two
groups at the end of the movie. Grease is overall a really good movie, and has some good
lessons. It tells you not to judge a person by their cover, and right away think they won t fit in
with your group. Lots of the time you just have to give them a chance and see how they fit in. So

At Mills, our community is created and sustained by the many unique paths of our students. How
has your path led you to Mills? What will you bring to our community, and what do you hope to

Before my eyelids blazed eighteen candles as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around
my twin sister and I. Cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, Make a wish! My
eyes shut and I repeated the wish I had for the last three years. Taking a deep breath in, I wish to
change whispered from the recesses of my mind. My teen years were difficult on myself
confidence. I cannot pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the person I was, and became obsessed
with becoming someone other than myself. I searched for communities throughout high school
hoping they would be my catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would
be my place of transformation, but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging
and as the semester wore on my wish became a faint memory.
Although I was only eight hours away from the Bay Area, the homesickness never left me.
Longing for my large intimate family find a community at my college was priority if I were to
survive emotionally. I attended meetings for different cultural clubs, the only places I felt accepted
due to the lack of cultural diversity on campus. The clubs were enjoyable

Gender Roles In The Great Gatsby
Good Afternoon Ms Atkinson and fellow peers, as you can see, the texts I have chosen to discuss
with you are To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and
Lullaby by W. H . Auden, all of which have modernist themes, including conforming to traditional
gender roles, time and love. To the Lighthouserevolves around the lives of the Ramsay family who

H. Auden s Lullaby. In to the Lighthouse, we can see that Mrs Ramsay is unable to declare her
love for her husband, yet both of them knew that she loved him. As Mr Ramsay can be seen as a
representation of a typical modernist man, we see that like many other artists of the lost
generation, he is constantly plagued with insecurities, constantly seeking reassurance in the
brokenness of the fragmented society. In To the Lighthouse, we see that Mrs Ramsay wishes that
James and Cam do not grow any older, Oh, but she never wanted James to grow a day older! or
Cam either , this is in contrast to W. H. Auden s lullaby when he says, All the dreaded cards

that even though it is fate that the lovers will be separated, possibly by death, the author still wants
to cherish the moments he can have with his lover, and that he refuses to have any interruptions
separating him and his lover till fate parts them. W. H. Auden also writes, Time and fever burn away
individual beauty stating that although people may be extremely beautiful, but disease and time
decays their beauty and ultimately, everyone has the same ending point. Although the poet and Mrs
Ramsay has conflicting attitudes about time and love, both have an ominous feeling of an
unavoidable end. Again, Woolf uses a mixture of shifting

Essay about Napoleons Farwell Address Speech Analysis
Napoleon s Farewell Address To The Old Guard
A truly dramatic moment in history occurred on April 20, 1814, as Napoleon Bonaparte,
Emperor of France and would be ruler of Europe said goodbye to the Old Guard after his failed
invasion of Russia and defeat by the Allies.
By that time, Napoleon had ruled France and surrounding countries for twenty years. Originally an
officer in the French Army, he had risen to become Emperor among the political chaos following the
French Revolution in which the old ruling French kings and nobility had been destroyed.
Napoleon built a 500,000 strong Army, which used modern tactics and improvisation in battle to
sweep across Europe and acquire an Empire for France.
But in 1812, the seemingly invincible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soldiers of my Old Guard: I bid you farewell. For twenty years I have constantly accompanied
you on the road to honor and glory. In these latter times, as in the days of our prosperity, you have
invariably been models of courage and fidelity. With men such as you our cause could not be lost;
but the war would have been interminable; it would have been civil war, and that would have
entailed deeper misfortunes on France.
I have sacrificed all of my interests to those of the country.
I go, but you, my friends, will continue to serve France. Her happiness was my only thought. It
will still be the object of my wishes. Do not regret my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to
serve your glory. I intend to write the history of the great achievements we have performed
together. Adieu, my friends. Would I could press you all to my heart.
Napoleon Bonaparte April 20, 1814
Following this, Napoleon was sent into exile on the little island of Elba off the coast of Italy. But
ten months later, in March of 1815, he escaped back into France. Accompanied by a thousand men
from his Old Guard he marched toward Paris and gathered an army of supporters along the way.
Once again, Napoleon assumed the position of Emperor, but it lasted only 100 days until the battle
of Waterloo and was defeated by the English and Prussian Armies on June 18, 1815.
A month later he was sent into exile on the island of St. Helena off the coast of Africa. On May 5,

Why the Versailles Treaty Failed to Bring Peace and Stability
Why the Versailles Treaty failed to bring peace and stability On June 28th 1919, the Big Three ,
Georges Clemenceau, Woodrow Wilson, and David Lloyd George, on behalf of Great Britain, the
United States, and France, had formulated a peace treaty called Versailles Treaty to end the four
year long First Word War, establishing the famous Versailles System . The purpose of the system is
to build a peaceful world dominated by the victor countries, such as Great Britain, the United States
and France. Therefore, the treaty harshly punished the losing countries, like Germany, Austria, and
Hungary, making them decline in power. Every country participated in the Paris Conference with
its own goals, and all countries, especially the three biggest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Actually, the decline in power never means the decline in conflict. Suppression and punishment,
without education, can never make a country give up the use of violent in a long time. At the
same time, the pricey compensation aggravates the economic crisis during the Depression period
in those defeated countries, because their economic powers were weaken by the pricey bill. That
s the partly reason why some losing countries, especially German, accepted Fascism, since their
economy and industrial sector experienced economic depression in those years, and their
governments were too weak to stand against the expansion of Fascism. By contraries, countries
with powerful economic resources, like America, protected their democracy and government,
getting rid of dictatorship and Fascism. In the second place, the Versailles Treaty was only a result
of compromise for those victor countries, leaving none of them fully satisfied about the new world
order set by the treaty. The bad negotiation also led to the Appeasement Policy, which indulged the
military expansion of German. It is easily understand the losing countries felt dissatisfied about the
treaty for they are unfairly punished. However, why those victor countries also didn t support the
system in many parts? To answer this question, people need to have a basic knowledge about what
are they want to achieve in the conference. Actually, each country had their own unique perspective
of the war, and as

Micro brewing took off in the early 90 s with brew pubs. People where looking for a more

90 s. Fueled by big spending and gains in the dot com bubble many saw the trend in beer and

the end of the first day it was up to 25 dollars. Red Hook also opened at 18 and was up to 27 and
for a couple years didn t trade below 24. Many jumped on fueled by a gold rush. What s more in
1994 64 new breweries opened, and by the 2nd quarter of 1995 59 had already opened (Gunn,

By 1998 many companies have closed and the survivors where hit hard. Sam Adams brewing went
from trading 20 dollars in 95 to only trading 9 in 98 (Marcial, Gene). Several factors lead to this
burst. Big beer companies such as Anheuser Busch started to join in. With the distribution already

Reflection Of Rene And Rene Mora s Life
Rene, Rene Mora; I think that name will forever be engraved on my heart. As a little girl, I
already had my whole life planned out, but what didn t come to plan was being put into juvenile
probation at sixteen. His parents and my mother met in mandatory parenting classes, there, our
parents would sit and compare their children to each other. I had already known of Rene because
we were attending the same high school at the time, and the fact that I would always hear about
him fighting at school, but never would I had imagined that I would end up dating the kid. We
officially met while we were both in bad moments of our lives, but Rene ended up saving me in
every day that a person can be saved.
Sociological imagination is the awareness of the relationship between personal experience and
the wider society; it is understanding that some things in society may lead to a certain outcome.
I like to think it as stepping into someone else s shoes, I always do this before I throw away food
or clothes. Rene suffered with a high tolerance of anxiety; he reacted fast to something while he
was full of anger, and then apologized for it after a short period of time. These days, we
unfortunately still live in a society where some young men think proving themselves to others
makes them real or down. A lot of them don t think abut loosing their freedom or family, until
they are behind a steel door or dead. Our book left out the topic of grief; I feel that many people

The Cultural Structures Of The United States
Very often people live their lives without the awareness of the basic structures that they are
exposed to and adapted into. The very things that regulate our day to day lives are often
overlooked or never noticed. Johnson discovered this while vacationing in Mexico. While
appreciating his time away from home, he came to realize that he had lost his actual sense of time.
This created a feeling of uneasiness and the general feeling of being lost. Johnson wasn t lost in the
sense of being in an unidentified place; he was lost due to his withdrawal from his cultural time
structure. Nature is not defined by minutes, hours, weeks, or years. Time is a creation of people,
yet in some cultures is regarded as being natural . Because systems are integral to culture, Johnson
came to realize that time organization is much more than creating a distinction between specific
moments within a given day. He realized that the concept of time was created to allow a cultural
structure to regulate itself and to organize the people within it. It allows for efficiency and the
ability of people to conduct themselves within their culture s expectations. These cultural

Essay about Advice to Choose the Best Cleaning Company
When it comes to cleaning the floors in your home, there are a plethora of companies to choose
from. Most of them use the same technology. Many of them do a good job, but there are some
companies that would rather take your money than make you a raving fan. Here are five ways to
be sure you are working with the right carpetcleaning company.
1.Don t Select a Company Based on Their Cheap Ad Prices.
Often, people are lead to believe that they are going to get a quality job at an incredible discount
when they call the company whose coupon they clipped out of the Sunday paper. These ads are
nothing more than a gimmick to get the company through the door. Once they get in there, they
will use bait and switch tactics and try to convince you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A competent carpet cleaner is going to take you on a walkthrough of your own home where they
can discuss problem areas with you. They will discuss areas where their services should be able to
help, where they may not work. The carpet cleaner should meet the expectation that they
themselves set. If they do not meet the expectation, they need to return and take care of those
problem areas free of charge.
If they still cannot fix the area to the expectations they set, they should, without question, refund
your money.
4.Do Your Homework
Anyone can tell you anything you want to hear to get into your home. You can either take their word
for it, or you can ask them for references, client testimonials or businesses that are referring their
business out to other clients. Call the Better Business Bureau to find out if their business is in good
standing with the community. You can also check with local chambers of commerce and other
business organizations.
You do not have to just take their word for it. There are plenty of other carpet cleaning companies
to choose from.
5.Always Remember: Safety First
The carpets are usually going to be cleaned during the day when the breadwinner is at work. The
home will either be empty or only one spouse will be at home. It is of upmost importance that you
know that the company you are inviting into your residence does background checks and screens
their employees. You want to be sure your family is safe

Some of these risks include dangerous items such as broken glass, dangerous items that are not

dangerous if proper safety precautions are not taken. Take a cell phone and electronics recycling,

the plants that recycle old electronics need to make sure that they have dust masks and latex gloves

Importance Of A Flower In My Life
Cake, flowers, presents, flowers, family, flowers. Never before did I think a flower could change
my life. The one flower, just one of millions, changed everything. It wasn t just a flower. No, it
was far more. Everything changed. The people, the places, the activities. Everything in my life
changed. My life was taken on a rollercoaster. It was flipped. It was turned upside turn. It climbed
high, just to fall back down. When it would reach the top of the climb, I would feel as if I was
free falling and never going to stop. My stomach would leap from my chest, just as it did the
many times I was frightened. I would corkscrew through uncertain times. Only it wasn t just on a
ride. I couldn t tell myself it was just for fun or that it was going to be over soon, because I didn t
know that. My stomach would lurch and I would sometimes just stay still, completely petrified.
Not knowing what to do, who to talk to, or what to say. I didn t know the next step I should take.
Any one step in the wrong direction could make me fall right off the track. Many times, I would
try to take small steps, to avoid falling off the track. Although, sometimes a roller coaster would
come from behind and hit me. I didn t figure out who to trust early enough and I would be on my
own against the one who wanted my to fall. Then my mindwould go back to the flower. I can picture
that flower in my head, like it was only yesterday. The image is crisp in my mind. Some other

The Effect Of Heat And Calorimeter On The Heat Capacity
Introduction/ Abstract: As a metal was being heated, the temperature was changing by increasing
the heat capacity. The change of the temperature depended on how much heat was supplied to the
metal and the mass, which could make a difference based on the object being heated. With that said,
the purpose of this experiment, which covered the concepts of heatand calorimeter, was to measure
the specific heat of a metal and to compare the experimental result to the theoretical value of same
metal.
Theory:
The relevant theoretical concept and equation used in this experiment were:
∆Q = change in the quantity of heat m = mass of the object
∆T = change in temperature
C = heat capacity
Heat capacity, C, is the quantity of heat needed to raise the system s temperature by one degree.
∵∆Q = C∆T
в€
ґC = ∆Q ∆T
The specific heat, c, of a solid or liquid is to raise the temperature of the substance to some value
which means the the quantity of heat needed to raise the the temperature of a particular substance,
a fixed a mount for a given unit mass. c = Cm
The specific heat of a material can be calculated by combining the above equations to give, c=
∆Qm ∆T
Using conservation of energy, the heat lost by the metal was the same as the one gained by the
water/calorimeter system, mmcm (Tmi в€’ Tf) = mwcw ( Tfв€’ Tw ) + mccc (Tfв€’ Tw ) where
we have assumed that the whole system has the same final temperatureTf and cm was the specific
heat of the metal.
mm = The mass of the metal shot

Social And Economic Problems Faced By Michigan
Along with challenges and battles, Michigan has made it a long ways in a very diverse range of
areas. History is what brings us to where we are today. Throughout time, I believe that every
leader, politician, and good citizen strived to crate a better place to live. If this is true than the
strides that Michigan has made to become the best it can be are due to the love and devotion that
michiganders have to their sate and their country. Just because people try to do good and do their
best to promote a safe, equal, and problem free society, does not mean that it is possible. In this

was passed in which allowed counties to collect tax money in order to implement programs
designed for children with handicaps. This groundswell of grassroots advocacy led to the more
recent history of special education in America, which commenced with Congressional approval of
the Education for All Handicapped Children Act(Public Law 94 142) on November 29, 1975. This
law was intended to support states and localities in protecting the rights of, meeting the

Civil Disobedience In The 1960 s
Civil disobedience is not allowed by law, that is why it is done. Not because standing up for a
person s cause is a polite thing to do, not because it is acceptable by law, but because people want
to make a stand. The definition of civil disobedience is as follows: the refusal to comply with
certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest.
Civil disobedience is a protest against the oppression people feel from their government, and
when they feel they have no other route, no other way to get their voices heard, they calmly
gather as a people, and show their government what they feel is wrong. The people who join in the
marches and stand up at the rallies, they know that in the eyes of the law, what they are doing is
wrong. Yet, this people know that in the eyes of morality and justice for the people, what the
government is doing is wrong, so they accept those facts, and accept their punishment.
A great era for civil disobedience in the United States of America, would have to be the 1960 s. It
was a time for figureheads, such as Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr., to sprout up and be
acknowledged by history. Now known as the civil rights movement, people ... Show more content

Anytime a government keeps people under their thumb, they will eventually have to learn that
alienating a people, only gives them a cause to fight for, and the longer and harsher they are
suppressed, the more they grow to reset their government. Take for example the French Revolution,
a tired third estate, who had been overlooked, and overtaxed, created their own party, which
eventually lead to uprisings and war within France, taking the head of their monarchs. Of course,

Culture Changes During The Edo Period
Culture Changes during the Edo Period
The Edo Period in Japan (1600 1868) was ruled by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu who was appointed
by the Emperor. During this time, many changes happened to promote stability among the people
and Japan. Early The Shogun adoptive a system which was later called Neo Confucianism based on
Confucianism (From China). This system stressed the importance of morals, education and
hierarchical order in the government and society (Japan Guide.com).The Shogun needed to create
peace and by using segregation, there were four types of divisions during the Edo period. First at the
top was the Shogun and Samurai, they created structure and peace among the domains. Second in
line was the peasants because without them the most important need would not be filled which
was food. Artisans were third in line being they added some value for the reason that they
produced goods like swords for the Samurai, artwork, music, and painting/printing. Last on the list
of importance was the merchants. Merchants made money off people and therefor held no value to
the Shogun. Due to a closed door policy that was enforced by the Shogun hardly anything came
into Japan without permission during the Edo period. The Shogun also limited trade with other
Western Nations and prevented Japan from trading. For over 200 years Japan has little to do with
trade outside with the exception of a Dutch post in Nagasaki and maintaining relations with China
and a post in Pusan where

Career Goals Of Becoming A Software Developer
Throughout your lifetime you will eventually have to decide on what career you want to begin
your journey on. In the United States and around the world, many individuals will choose their
career path very early in their lifetimes in order to attain the job position that they desire. With this
being said, one must carefully plan and modify their lives to prepare for what the future withholds.
For instance, in order for me to achieve my long time goals of becoming a software developerand/or
a computer system analyst, then I would need to continue patiently walk along the bumpy path on
my laborious, lengthy journey. Lastly, the following careers that I ve set my eyes on will embark

One of the most important factors of when choosing a career is the work environment. Most
people don t tend to focus on this because they assume that this isn t as important as the pay or

other factors. For this reason, I have chosen a career, computer system analyst, in which the U.S.
News and World Report has characterized the three top categories in job satisfaction: upward
mobility, stress level, and flexibility as average. First of all, this means that my opportunity level
to increase the chance of becoming promoted and/or yearly salary will be at the United States

The Human Nature Of Humans
Many researchers have tested the theory that humans are naturally war loving. A fair viewpoint,
from the article Evolutionary Life , is that human nature is not one thing, neither good nor bad
overall. People in general have been genetically endowed by evolution with a wide variety of
tendencies and capacities that respond to but are not necessarily controlled or determined by their
environment (Atlee). With this, it s fair to draw a line between how humans were made to act and
how they act today. In the earliest stages of humanlife through the present, humans have fought,
hunted, and killed their way through life. Today s difference to the past is not much different
besides the means we use to go about the deeds. Businessmen, politicians, and numerous other
professions utilize harmful tactics in order to get what they desire. For example, a politician
exposes the underlying evils of another candidate in order to gain votes, much like how the
infamous Salem Witch Trials were pursued in the late seventeenth century when others cried
witch in order to avoid being tortured and killed themselves. While one may argue that cavemen
were, in some aspects, biologically different than we are today and that they were not exposed to
as much as we are, one cannot argue that we are not still instinctively caveman like. We hunt and
gather food; we create new and improved ways of killing enemies or food source; and when we don
t like how or what someone else is

Fahrenheit 451 And Faber Analysis
Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success Henry
Ford. This quote relates to Ray Bradbury s portrayal of the relationship between Guy Montag and
Professor Faber in Fahrenheit 451. Montag and Faber have their share of differences and
commonalities throughout the course of the story, but their similarities overshadow their
differences. The two come together to form an unlikely bond as they both learn they each share the
same passion for books. Since books are outlawed in this dystopian society, they each need to work

Their differences cause their relationship to be stressful. Montag is a risk taker in contrast to

thought of the possible consequences he may have suffered if he was caught. Montag, on the
other hand, wanted to do something as soon as he began reading the books. When Montag
makes the pivotal decision to read poetry to Mildred and her guests as Faber listens is an
example of a stressful event in their relationship. Faber says Montag, You ll ruin everything, Shut

himself as possessing literature, but he also risks Faber s life too, as he also is in possession of

Neoliberalism believes strongly in having an up to date free market, It focuses on the principle of
having a free market with nationalised institutions transforming to become private entities, this
leads to most if not all public institutions being sold off to private investors. It also believes in
reducing the helping hand of government by cutting public services and removing social initiatives
such as unemployment and disability payment. Neoliberalism also believes that to create a truly
free market, there must be no regulation of it; this allows the market to generate as much profit as
possible. Individual responsibility is a key aspect of neoliberalism, as it ensures that the
government can be relinquished of its responsibility to provide for the poorest in society, this forces
the poorest to pretty much fight to survive due to no state healthcare, education or social security.
Capitalism is one of the most important aspects of neoliberalism, it allows anyone to achieve their
goals if they have the determination to follow it through.
Neoliberal globalisation is therefore the global expansion of neoliberal economic theory; this has
resulted in the formation of a global economic system which operates with oversight from

Essay One: Lysistrata
Lysistrata is an example of a comedic story that can apply to many generations, cultures and
intellects. With Aristophanes combination of witty, bawdy, vulgar, yet thematic comedy, it offers
its readers a story for the ages.
What I found to be the most humorous aspect of Lysistrata was the juxtaposition of how the comedy
was initially intended to be viewed at the time it was written, and what makes it funny in today s
comedic culture.
In ancient Greek times, the humor in Lysistrata was the idea of a woman in a leadership or
decision making role. Women were typical housewives. They would cook, clean, take care of the
children and make sure everything was right for her husband when he got home. The idea of a
woman stepping completely outside the social norms of ancient Greek times was so outrageous,
it was comical. Another piece of comedy was when Lysistrata sent the chorus of old women to the
Acropolis because they are well past their prime. An older woman s sexual urges aren t nearly as

Stock Characters In Roman Comedy
In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society.
Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the
characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy,
stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of
people. These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to
judge others. Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society
has about certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock characterof the leno, or
brothel keeper or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately
recognized. The leno is represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns
the love interest of Calidorus, master of Pseudolus, and is known for his greed and physical
harshness towards his slaves. He is seen in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls
them names such as whip spoilers (139), which indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his
whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and
only cares about money. He compromises his morals constantly in order to make more money, and
he almost seems proud to accept his bad character. The most important example of this is when he
sells Phoenicium, Calidorus love interest, to a

When Was Peter Pan Banned
Peter Pan made a choice to ban anyone who grew older. Since Peter Pan made the decision to
banish all of his followers who grew older, this caused the boys to grow disgust for Pan himself.
Peter Pan made a terrible choice banishing all the boys to No Where Land where they would be
shunned forever and called the Roarers. Peter Panhas the biggest problem in the story because on
one adventure, Peter and his League of Explorers found the Jolly Rodger. As he and his league
explored James Hooks uninhabited ship of 20+ years, Peter found and put on Hook s second best
coat. Peter Pan began wearing many of the Captain s clothing. In Neverland, when you wore

This friend would need to be filled with kindness and love since Captain Hook is full of hatred
and evil. I feel if Hook had a friend, he would not be evil, but he would be kind and see the nice
side of everything and everyone. A good relationship would have trust, love, and kindness. An
example would be the relationship of Tootles and Peter. Tootles loves Peter with all her heart,
and she would do anything for him. This book does have bias, such as the fairy war and the
questions they asked the explorers. Another would be who Ravello really was and those who
came to Neverland. There are two moments when I disagreed with the author, such as making
Ravello a whole new character, when he was someone else we already knew. Another would be
what happened to Hook at the end of the story, the author could have left room for another sequel.
I think this book is meant to grab attention of anyone from teens to adults, this is because of the
foul language and death in the book; however, it would grab almost anyone s attention. I would
recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good read, and loves fictional, fantasy, and sci fi
books. I would not, however, recommend it to history lovers who want facts and

My Mistress Tone
Love is a strong word, as anyone would agree. There are many twists and turns associated with
such a word. Love: Is it innocent? Is it lust? Is it true? Is it accepted? Or is it just a joke? When
comparing the two poems, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun by William Shakespeare and
To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell it is clear that they share similar traits as they both use
satirical tones to describe lovefor mistress . Looking deeper into the poems; the backgrounds of
the poets and their time periods of which they were written do distinguish differences in how they
have portrayed their ideas in the literacies. To begin, comparing the theme of My mistress eyes are
nothing like the sun to the theme of To his Coy Mistress ,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She is the so called Dark Lady. She is the woman full of flaws, but ever so lucky to have
Shakespeare s love. Her identity is the biggest mystery, it is never revealed in any of the sonnets. In
this sonnet though, sonnet 130, he goes to a great deal to show that his mistress is not of
Petrarchan ideal, but he cannot resist her. The mistress desires to be flattered and praised by
Shakespeare, not like most Petrarchan women of this time (Gil, 103 135). Shakespeare uses this
poem to express her flaws; her wire like black hair, reeking breath, and pale skin. Nonetheless, he
ends with the flattery the mistress longs for and expresses his incomparable love for her. Her
role is of such significance because she is the mistress that is so full of flaws and shown for her
faulty human qualities, but Shakespeare loves her anyway. Most poets of his time put their women
on pedestals to show their love for them, Shakespeare used the truth to show his love for his

Abstract
With the increasing dependency on wireless networks, the need for proper reliability analysis for
Mobile ad hoc networks (Manets) is also increasing. Failure of Manets in areas like warfare,
nuclear reactors, medical equipment and airplanes can lead to catastrophe. Unlike traditional
networks, measuring the reliability of Manets is a tedious task as it involves dynamically changing
topology. The existing methods for calculating reliability use two terminal analysis as the basis for
calculation. It uses the same method used for traditional computer networks to calculate reliability.
However, the method is not very efficient when it comes to the wireless networks as they are far
different from traditional networks. It is also a time consuming task to identify all the nodes and
links in a wireless network as nodes move freely in the network. In This paper, We are going to
discuss about NLN(Node Link Node) technique which reduces the complexity of analyzing the
reliability in Manets.
Keywords: Manet, NodeLinkNode, Reliability.
INTRODUCTION:
The Mobile ad hoc networks is one of the emerging technologies today. The instability of the nodes
in a mobile ad hoc network makes it difficult to calculate the reliability of the network. When a

properness the federal government should take control regardless of the situation and work
with local officials who would know the area better. When a city declares state of emergency is
should be mandatory that the federal government can now have more power to execute a plan

threat or as if they cannot handle the situation but more of an extra relief. Seeing hurricane
Katrina was the biggest hurricane since 1975 everyday planning for this big of a natural disaster

The Intellectual Property Rights Of The North American...
Introduction to the Intellectual Property Rights
In a general term, intellectual property is any person s human intellect, which is often protected by
law, in order to safeguard its use from another person. The possession of such kind of property
generates limited monopoly in the safeguarded property. Intellectual property can be subdivided
into copyrights, patents, trademark and trade secrets (Intellectual Property Rights, 2014).
The law protects the Intellectual Property so that the people who created and invented the property
can get appreciation and even in some cases monetary benefits from what they created. Every
country has different laws regarding the protection of intellectual property. There are even some

Still there is some difference between the Intellectual property law and the tangible property. Where
the right of exclusive possession is sole of the rights safeguarding the real and at the core of the
bundle of rights protecting real and personal property, things are different in the intellectual
property ( Intellectual Property Rights, 2014). In the USA, the Congress gets the control to monitor
patents and copyright from the INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY clause of the Constitution. The
Article I, Section 8 of the constitution says about it. The U.S. office of Patent and Trademark is
authorized to regulate federally registered patents and trademarks. Even though the patents are only
regulated through federal law, trademarks can also be governed through State law. Copyrights are
particularly controlled through federal law and have to be recorded through the U.S. Copyright
Office (Intellectual Property Rights, 2014).
United States Copyright law is regulated by the federal Copyright Act of 1976. The exclusive
rights can be seen in appendix A. The innovation recorded Works before 1978 currently has a
copyright duration of 95 years, seen from the date of publication. Further the duration can be seen

Sickle Cell Disease And Cancer
Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemias Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Thalassemias are similar
blood disorders with some important differences. Sickle Cell Disease is a disorder where the red
blood cells are sickle shaped, which causes them to stick to vessel walls preventing much needed
oxygen from traveling through the body. Thalassemias has normal looking red bloodcells, but the
body does not make enough healthy cells or hemoglobin. This means there is a lack of oxygen
because the body does not produce enough blood or hemoglobin to carry it throughout the body.
The two diseases have basic similarities reflected by the concepts regarding diagnosing and
treatment plans. They also differ in many ways; for example, Sickle Cell consist of more
complications than the Thalassemias disorder. Thalassemia, however, affects more ethnic
backgrounds and numbers of the afflicted are spread over a greater geographical area. Sickle
Cell and Thalassemia can be diagnosed by a blood test that checks for certain genetic markers.
Generally a person will have two hemoglobin genes. If testing determined you are missing one,
or both, then you are either a carrier or you have Thalassemia. Sickle Cell testing does not look
for missing genes, as in testing for Thalassemia, it is looking for an abnormal hemoglobin gene.
If you have one or both of these genes, the result is the same as Thalassemia, you are either a
carrier or you have the disease. Being a carrier of either of the

A Report On Vehicle Communication Network
1.Introduction
Since the market demands get varied and segmented, automotive manufacturers have been focus on
improving users driving experience for a long period while developing advanced electronic based
technologies, with respect to requirements such as convenience, safety, fuel efficiency and etc.
However, with more functions achieved, a large quantity of wires individually connected to
different electronical control units needs to be conducted in order to transfer signals from sensors,
thus making the entire vehicle system significantly complex, heavy, costly and less reliable. This
issue was foreseen by engineers and could not be solved properly until the introduction of vehicle
communication network in which electronic control units interchanges information alone the bus
with much less wirings required.t Within the following sections, in order to ensure accuracy for
final investigation result, a Toyota Prius 2012 model are researched in terms of how information
required is processed by each control unit after being detected by those sensors related. Based upon
investigation mentioned, discussion on benefits of using in vehicle network will be further taken
with respect to weight and cost savings.

The Chinese Martial Arts Film
Most Martial arts films in China generally tend to foreground issues of gender. In addition, these
films portray a fixed line of gender separation. The Chinese Martial arts film culture has always
been more receptive to the general idea of the female character in what Westerners would indeed
consider exclusively male role such as the action hero (Castillo 3). In the martial art films several
actress have even established their entire reputations as action stars. The action heroes were also
held up as the idea of masculinity with all of its inherent characteristics of control, privilege and
agency. This is actually adopted from the western archetypes of male action hero which emphasize
connotations of physical presence and prominent body musculature. The emergence of the Chinese
martial artshas resulted to convergence of social, economic and political pressures that along with
creative talents of producers, writers, actors and directors, have indeed forged a national cinema
that captured attention of the world wide cinematic consciousness. Majority of the Chinese martial
arts movies are distinctively known in cultivating the concept of genderroles. A close analysis of
these movies ultimately portrays that multiple characters from the both genders not only play an
immense role in the martial arts aspect of the films, but indeed symbolize Chinese themes as well
as some of the issues that the country was going through at that particular time. In these regard, in

Content-Based Image Retrieval Case Study
INTRODUCTION
Pertaining to the tremendous growth of digitalization in the past decade in areas of healthcare,
administration, art commerce and academia, large collections of digital images have been
created. Many of these collections are the product of digitizing existing collections of analog
photographs, diagrams, drawings, paintings, and prints with which the problem of managing large
databases and its repossession based on user specifications came into the picture. Due to the
incredible rate, at which the size of image and video collection is growing, it is eminent to skip
the subjective task of manual keyword indexing and to pave the way for the ambitious and
challenging idea of the contend based description of imagery.

DiVI Diversity and Visually Interactive Method
Aimed at reducing the semantic gap in CBIR systems, the Diversity and Visually Interactive
(DiVI) method [2] combines diversity and visual data mining techniques to improve retrieval
efficiency. It includes the user into the processing path, to interactively distort the search space in
the image description process, forcing the elements that he/she considers more similar to be closer
and elements considered less similar to be farther in the search space. Thus, DiVI allows inducing
in the space the intuitive perception of similarity lacking in the numeric evaluation of the distance
function. It also allows the user to express his/her diversity preference for a query, reducing the
effort to analyze the result when too many similar images are returned.

  • 2. Access to Information Access to Information The Widening Gap The Digital Divide is a buzz phrase heard today in North America. It refers to the growing divide between people who have and do not have access to information specifically via the internet. There are various forms of digital divides but the one that is the most despair is the global digital divide between industrialized countries and developing nations. Optimists feel that the internet and information it carries brings potential to societies of developing nations but pessimists feel that the internet offers no new potential for developing nations but rather it reinforces existing divisions of inequality. Various positive and negative outlookswill be delved into in this essay to give a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The argument here is: how could the global digital divide be on the top of the agenda if these countries are not even having their basic needs met? UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) emphasizes that most of the world s population lacks basic access to a telephone, let alone a computer. If developing countries lack traditional media and information communication technologies then it s quite a reality that the internet will just be another piece of technology that creates a bigger gap between the information haves and have nots. Although technology has always held potential as an engine of economic growth for transforming developing nations, critics argue that in practice this promise has often mainly served to benefit the industrialized worlds (Pippa, p6). The internet was originally an English text medium and although it is now graphic it is fair to say that it is still very much a text based, therefore users also must be literate. If basic literacy is a barrier to access most of the world poor could be excluded from the information revolution even if computing equipment became more widely available (Pippa, p59). One fifth of the world s population remains illiterate and the total rises to 40 percent or more of those living in Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Asia (Pippa, p59). Not only must an internet user be literate but since most of the language on the internet is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights With the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), the concept of human rights has gradually become one of the most commonly accepted universal norms, referred to in United Nations resolutions, national constitutions and regional and international treaties. Even so, human rights violations occur on an almost daily basis in countries around the world. The term seems to be at the forefront of contemporary political discourses, with its meaning at most times remaining unclear. In theory, human rightsserve the sole purpose of protecting the inherent dignity of all representatives of the human family (UDHR 1948) However, there is much disagreement when it comes to theoretically justifying that each human being has rights by virtue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will then serve as a basis for my main argument that human rights are socially constructed and do not exist outside of the realm of politics. This will then feed into the second part of the question where I shall discuss the prioritisation of community values over an alleged universal foundation. Structure The first part of the essay will concern itself with a more genealogical approach by looking at early philosophical origins of human rights and how these evolved over the years. With this I seek to outline the fact that while efforts to institutionalise human rights were initially a reaction towards global injustice and oppression, in contemporary politics they are used to create power relations, and implicitly, inequality. This will provide a good basis for the second part in which I will look at the incompatibilities within the theory religion versus Rawls consensus based theory. Analysing the multitude of frameworks with their different ways of approaching and grounding rights underlines and reinforces the fact that there can t be a universal foundation for human rights. The third part will deal with the fact that trying to ground rights into one universal foundation creates an exclusion of those who are different and how we can seek to move away from this problem. Natural Law and Natural Rights The origin of the modern rights discourse is that of natural law dating back to antiquity. Plato was one of the first advocates for a universal ... It has caused minimal verbal communication, spelling and grammar has gone down the drain along with driving safety, paying attention in or at school/work, it has even impacted bullying in schools. Texting causes people to rely on spell check/auto correct and actual verbal communication has significantly declined. Texting also causes people to pay less attention to the road because they stay buried in their phones. Texting and driving is extremely dangerous and it is frequently done. Everyday almost nine people die in car accidents due to texting and driving. Driving while distracted can be looking away from the road, removing your hands away from the steering wheel, or even thinking about something irrelevant while driving. Texting and driving has to do with removing hands from the steering wheel, looking at a phone and thinking about what your doing on the phone. People who decided not to pay attention while driving Caused around 3,477 people to die and 391,000 to be injured in 2015. People who text while driving causes over a thousand people to get hurt everyday. Texting and driving has been fought, but still continues to happen everyday. We are going to describe the following; the history, how it relates to the outsiders, plot, setting, the actors, and other important details. Grease is a movie about love and friendship. It s funny, charming, and at times a bit inappropriate. Grease came out on June 13, 1978. It was directed by Randal Kleiser, and produced by Paramount Pictures. What happens is that Danny and Sandy change their look for eachother. So Danny dresses all preppy with a cardigan, which is Sandy s personality. Sandy shows up in her black leather pants and black shirt, like how the gang dresses. They did this without knowing that each other were changing. It s funny because Sandy tries to act like Danny, but she doesn t know how, so she s just really awkward in that scene. Once Danny sees Sandy he throws off his cardigan, and they break into song. The movie Grease relates to the Outsiders mainly because it was written in the same time frame. Grease had the same sort of view as the Outsiders. There is Danny and his friends and Sandy and the Pink girls are the more popular people. The other group of people is another group of popular people from another school. In Grease, there are never any fights really, the only thing that ever happened between them was the Drag race between the two groups at the end of the movie. Grease is overall a really good movie, and has some good lessons. It tells you not to judge a person by their cover, and right away think they won t fit in with your group. • 9. My Experience At Mills, Our Community Is Created And... Una destinatio, viae diversae is the Mills motto. Translated, it means one destination, many paths. At Mills, our community is created and sustained by the many unique paths of our students. How has your path led you to Mills? What will you bring to our community, and what do you hope to gain from your time here? Before my eyelids blazed eighteen candles as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around my twin sister and I. Cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, Make a wish! My eyes shut and I repeated the wish I had for the last three years. Taking a deep breath in, I wish to change whispered from the recesses of my mind. My teen years were difficult on myself confidence. I cannot pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the person I was, and became obsessed with becoming someone other than myself. I searched for communities throughout high school hoping they would be my catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would be my place of transformation, but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging and as the semester wore on my wish became a faint memory. Although I was only eight hours away from the Bay Area, the homesickness never left me. Longing for my large intimate family find a community at my college was priority if I were to survive emotionally. I attended meetings for different cultural clubs, the only places I felt accepted due to the lack of cultural diversity on campus. The clubs were enjoyable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Roles In The Great Gatsby Good Afternoon Ms Atkinson and fellow peers, as you can see, the texts I have chosen to discuss with you are To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Lullaby by W. H . Auden, all of which have modernist themes, including conforming to traditional gender roles, time and love. To the Lighthouserevolves around the lives of the Ramsay family who are at their holiday house, hosting some guests, including Lily Briscoe (a painter) and Charles. The family are faced with different obstacles throughout the day, Lily with a discouraging comment from Charles and James oppositions with his father, but in the end, despite the differences, it is clear the Mr Ramsay heavily depends on Mrs Ramsay. In to the Lighthouse, we can see that Mrs Ramsay is unable to declare her love for her husband, yet both of them knew that she loved him. As Mr Ramsay can be seen as a representation of a typical modernist man, we see that like many other artists of the lost generation, he is constantly plagued with insecurities, constantly seeking reassurance in the brokenness of the fragmented society. In To the Lighthouse, we see that Mrs Ramsay wishes that James and Cam do not grow any older, Oh, but she never wanted James to grow a day older! or Cam either , this is in contrast to W. H. Auden s lullaby when he says, All the dreaded cards foretell, shall be paid, but from this night, not a whisper, not a thought, not a kiss nor look be lost. , that even though it is fate that the lovers will be separated, possibly by death, the author still wants to cherish the moments he can have with his lover, and that he refuses to have any interruptions separating him and his lover till fate parts them. W. H. Auden also writes, Time and fever burn away individual beauty stating that although people may be extremely beautiful, but disease and time decays their beauty and ultimately, everyone has the same ending point. Although the poet and Mrs Ramsay has conflicting attitudes about time and love, both have an ominous feeling of an unavoidable end. Again, Woolf uses a mixture of shifting ... • 14. Essay about Napoleons Farwell Address Speech Analysis Napoleon s Farewell Address To The Old Guard A truly dramatic moment in history occurred on April 20, 1814, as Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France and would be ruler of Europe said goodbye to the Old Guard after his failed invasion of Russia and defeat by the Allies. By that time, Napoleon had ruled France and surrounding countries for twenty years. Originally an officer in the French Army, he had risen to become Emperor among the political chaos following the French Revolution in which the old ruling French kings and nobility had been destroyed. Napoleon built a 500,000 strong Army, which used modern tactics and improvisation in battle to sweep across Europe and acquire an Empire for France. But in 1812, the seemingly invincible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soldiers of my Old Guard: I bid you farewell. For twenty years I have constantly accompanied you on the road to honor and glory. In these latter times, as in the days of our prosperity, you have invariably been models of courage and fidelity. With men such as you our cause could not be lost; but the war would have been interminable; it would have been civil war, and that would have entailed deeper misfortunes on France. I have sacrificed all of my interests to those of the country. I go, but you, my friends, will continue to serve France. Her happiness was my only thought. It will still be the object of my wishes. Do not regret my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to serve your glory. I intend to write the history of the great achievements we have performed together. Adieu, my friends. Would I could press you all to my heart. Napoleon Bonaparte April 20, 1814 Following this, Napoleon was sent into exile on the little island of Elba off the coast of Italy. But ten months later, in March of 1815, he escaped back into France. Accompanied by a thousand men from his Old Guard he marched toward Paris and gathered an army of supporters along the way. Once again, Napoleon assumed the position of Emperor, but it lasted only 100 days until the battle of Waterloo and was defeated by the English and Prussian Armies on June 18, 1815. • 15. Why the Versailles Treaty Failed to Bring Peace and Stability Why the Versailles Treaty failed to bring peace and stability On June 28th 1919, the Big Three , Georges Clemenceau, Woodrow Wilson, and David Lloyd George, on behalf of Great Britain, the United States, and France, had formulated a peace treaty called Versailles Treaty to end the four year long First Word War, establishing the famous Versailles System . The purpose of the system is to build a peaceful world dominated by the victor countries, such as Great Britain, the United States and France. Therefore, the treaty harshly punished the losing countries, like Germany, Austria, and Hungary, making them decline in power. Every country participated in the Paris Conference with its own goals, and all countries, especially the three biggest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Actually, the decline in power never means the decline in conflict. Suppression and punishment, without education, can never make a country give up the use of violent in a long time. At the same time, the pricey compensation aggravates the economic crisis during the Depression period in those defeated countries, because their economic powers were weaken by the pricey bill. That s the partly reason why some losing countries, especially German, accepted Fascism, since their economy and industrial sector experienced economic depression in those years, and their governments were too weak to stand against the expansion of Fascism. By contraries, countries with powerful economic resources, like America, protected their democracy and government, getting rid of dictatorship and Fascism. In the second place, the Versailles Treaty was only a result of compromise for those victor countries, leaving none of them fully satisfied about the new world order set by the treaty. The bad negotiation also led to the Appeasement Policy, which indulged the military expansion of German. It is easily understand the losing countries felt dissatisfied about the treaty for they are unfairly punished. However, why those victor countries also didn t support the system in many parts? To answer this question, people need to have a basic knowledge about what are they want to achieve in the conference. Actually, each country had their own unique perspective of the war, and as ... As a little girl, I already had my whole life planned out, but what didn t come to plan was being put into juvenile probation at sixteen. His parents and my mother met in mandatory parenting classes, there, our parents would sit and compare their children to each other. I had already known of Rene because we were attending the same high school at the time, and the fact that I would always hear about him fighting at school, but never would I had imagined that I would end up dating the kid. We officially met while we were both in bad moments of our lives, but Rene ended up saving me in every day that a person can be saved. Sociological imagination is the awareness of the relationship between personal experience and the wider society; it is understanding that some things in society may lead to a certain outcome. I like to think it as stepping into someone else s shoes, I always do this before I throw away food or clothes. Rene suffered with a high tolerance of anxiety; he reacted fast to something while he was full of anger, and then apologized for it after a short period of time. These days, we unfortunately still live in a society where some young men think proving themselves to others makes them real or down. A lot of them don t think abut loosing their freedom or family, until they are behind a steel door or dead. Our book left out the topic of grief; I feel that many people suffer with it today, ... • 20. The Cultural Structures Of The United States Very often people live their lives without the awareness of the basic structures that they are exposed to and adapted into. The very things that regulate our day to day lives are often overlooked or never noticed. Johnson discovered this while vacationing in Mexico. While appreciating his time away from home, he came to realize that he had lost his actual sense of time. This created a feeling of uneasiness and the general feeling of being lost. Johnson wasn t lost in the sense of being in an unidentified place; he was lost due to his withdrawal from his cultural time structure. Nature is not defined by minutes, hours, weeks, or years. Time is a creation of people, yet in some cultures is regarded as being natural . Because systems are integral to culture, Johnson came to realize that time organization is much more than creating a distinction between specific moments within a given day. He realized that the concept of time was created to allow a cultural structure to regulate itself and to organize the people within it. It allows for efficiency and the ability of people to conduct themselves within their culture s expectations. These cultural expectations are what shape the social structures found within a society. The social structures are the things that design relationships between people and people, people and systems, or systems and systems. The social structures provide a blueprint for how we are to live our lives in relation to one another. In one sense, social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Effect Of Heat And Calorimeter On The Heat Capacity Introduction/ Abstract: As a metal was being heated, the temperature was changing by increasing the heat capacity. The change of the temperature depended on how much heat was supplied to the metal and the mass, which could make a difference based on the object being heated. With that said, the purpose of this experiment, which covered the concepts of heatand calorimeter, was to measure the specific heat of a metal and to compare the experimental result to the theoretical value of same metal. Theory: The relevant theoretical concept and equation used in this experiment were: ∆Q = change in the quantity of heat m = mass of the object ∆T = change in temperature C = heat capacity Heat capacity, C, is the quantity of heat needed to raise the system s temperature by one degree. ∵∆Q = C∆T в€ ґC = ∆Q ∆T The specific heat, c, of a solid or liquid is to raise the temperature of the substance to some value which means the the quantity of heat needed to raise the the temperature of a particular substance, a fixed a mount for a given unit mass. c = Cm The specific heat of a material can be calculated by combining the above equations to give, c= ∆Qm ∆T Using conservation of energy, the heat lost by the metal was the same as the one gained by the water/calorimeter system, mmcm (Tmi в€’ Tf) = mwcw ( Tfв€’ Tw ) + mccc (Tfв€’ Tw ) where we have assumed that the whole system has the same final temperatureTf and cm was the specific heat of the metal. mm = The mass of the metal shot ... • 26. Civil Disobedience In The 1960 s Civil disobedience is not allowed by law, that is why it is done. Not because standing up for a person s cause is a polite thing to do, not because it is acceptable by law, but because people want to make a stand. The definition of civil disobedience is as follows: the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest. Civil disobedience is a protest against the oppression people feel from their government, and when they feel they have no other route, no other way to get their voices heard, they calmly gather as a people, and show their government what they feel is wrong. The people who join in the marches and stand up at the rallies, they know that in the eyes of the law, what they are doing is wrong. Yet, this people know that in the eyes of morality and justice for the people, what the government is doing is wrong, so they accept those facts, and accept their punishment. A great era for civil disobedience in the United States of America, would have to be the 1960 s. During this time, many changes happened to promote stability among the people and Japan. Early The Shogun adoptive a system which was later called Neo Confucianism based on Confucianism (From China). This system stressed the importance of morals, education and hierarchical order in the government and society (Japan Guide.com).The Shogun needed to create peace and by using segregation, there were four types of divisions during the Edo period. First at the top was the Shogun and Samurai, they created structure and peace among the domains. Second in line was the peasants because without them the most important need would not be filled which was food. Artisans were third in line being they added some value for the reason that they produced goods like swords for the Samurai, artwork, music, and painting/printing. Last on the list of importance was the merchants. Merchants made money off people and therefor held no value to the Shogun. Due to a closed door policy that was enforced by the Shogun hardly anything came into Japan without permission during the Edo period. • 31. The Human Nature Of Humans Many researchers have tested the theory that humans are naturally war loving. A fair viewpoint, from the article Evolutionary Life , is that human nature is not one thing, neither good nor bad overall. People in general have been genetically endowed by evolution with a wide variety of tendencies and capacities that respond to but are not necessarily controlled or determined by their environment (Atlee). With this, it s fair to draw a line between how humans were made to act and how they act today. In the earliest stages of humanlife through the present, humans have fought, hunted, and killed their way through life. Today s difference to the past is not much different besides the means we use to go about the deeds. Businessmen, politicians, and numerous other professions utilize harmful tactics in order to get what they desire. For example, a politician exposes the underlying evils of another candidate in order to gain votes, much like how the infamous Salem Witch Trials were pursued in the late seventeenth century when others cried witch in order to avoid being tortured and killed themselves. While one may argue that cavemen were, in some aspects, biologically different than we are today and that they were not exposed to as much as we are, one cannot argue that we are not still instinctively caveman like. This quote relates to Ray Bradbury s portrayal of the relationship between Guy Montag and Professor Faber in Fahrenheit 451. Montag and Faber have their share of differences and commonalities throughout the course of the story, but their similarities overshadow their differences. The two come together to form an unlikely bond as they both learn they each share the same passion for books. Montag, on the other hand, wanted to do something as soon as he began reading the books. When Montag makes the pivotal decision to read poetry to Mildred and her guests as Faber listens is an example of a stressful event in their relationship. Faber says Montag, You ll ruin everything, Shut up you fool. (Bradbury 94). In this statement, Faber is anxious and concerned that Montag may have just sabotaged their entire plan. Neoliberalism also believes that to create a truly free market, there must be no regulation of it; this allows the market to generate as much profit as possible. Individual responsibility is a key aspect of neoliberalism, as it ensures that the government can be relinquished of its responsibility to provide for the poorest in society, this forces the poorest to pretty much fight to survive due to no state healthcare, education or social security. Capitalism is one of the most important aspects of neoliberalism, it allows anyone to achieve their goals if they have the determination to follow it through. Aristophanes Lysistrata Bernstein, Elizabeth Dr. Thomas Haeussler CWL 320 M/W 8am Essay One: Lysistrata Lysistrata is an example of a comedic story that can apply to many generations, cultures and intellects. With Aristophanes combination of witty, bawdy, vulgar, yet thematic comedy, it offers its readers a story for the ages. What I found to be the most humorous aspect of Lysistrata was the juxtaposition of how the comedy was initially intended to be viewed at the time it was written, and what makes it funny in today s comedic culture. In ancient Greek times, the humor in Lysistrata was the idea of a woman in a leadership or decision making role. Women were typical housewives. They would cook, clean, take care of the children and make sure everything was right for her husband when he got home. The idea of a woman stepping completely outside the social norms of ancient Greek times was so outrageous, it was comical. Another piece of comedy was when Lysistrata sent the chorus of old women to the Acropolis because they are well past their prime. • 41. Stock Characters In Roman Comedy In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society. Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy, stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of people. These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to judge others. Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society has about certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock characterof the leno, or brothel keeper or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately recognized. The leno is represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns the love interest of Calidorus, master of Pseudolus, and is known for his greed and physical harshness towards his slaves. He is seen in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls them names such as whip spoilers (139), which indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and only cares about money. He compromises his morals constantly in order to make more money, and he almost seems proud to accept his bad character. The most important example of this is when he sells Phoenicium, Calidorus love interest, to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of Reliability Calculations in Mobile Ad hoc Networks Sai Charan Goud Kolanu, Tejaswi Reddy Karemma Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science California State University, Long Beach Abstract With the increasing dependency on wireless networks, the need for proper reliability analysis for Mobile ad hoc networks (Manets) is also increasing. Failure of Manets in areas like warfare, nuclear reactors, medical equipment and airplanes can lead to catastrophe. Unlike traditional networks, measuring the reliability of Manets is a tedious task as it involves dynamically changing topology. The existing methods for calculating reliability use two terminal analysis as the basis for calculation. It uses the same method used for traditional computer networks to calculate reliability. However, the method is not very efficient when it comes to the wireless networks as they are far different from traditional networks. It is also a time consuming task to identify all the nodes and links in a wireless network as nodes move freely in the network. In This paper, We are going to discuss about NLN(Node Link Node) technique which reduces the complexity of analyzing the reliability in Manets. Keywords: Manet, NodeLinkNode, Reliability. • 50. Sickle Cell Disease And Cancer Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemias Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Thalassemias are similar blood disorders with some important differences. Sickle Cell Disease is a disorder where the red blood cells are sickle shaped, which causes them to stick to vessel walls preventing much needed oxygen from traveling through the body. Thalassemias has normal looking red bloodcells, but the body does not make enough healthy cells or hemoglobin. This means there is a lack of oxygen because the body does not produce enough blood or hemoglobin to carry it throughout the body. The two diseases have basic similarities reflected by the concepts regarding diagnosing and treatment plans. They also differ in many ways; for example, Sickle Cell consist of more complications than the Thalassemias disorder. Thalassemia, however, affects more ethnic backgrounds and numbers of the afflicted are spread over a greater geographical area. Sickle Cell and Thalassemia can be diagnosed by a blood test that checks for certain genetic markers. Generally a person will have two hemoglobin genes. If testing determined you are missing one, or both, then you are either a carrier or you have Thalassemia. Sickle Cell testing does not look for missing genes, as in testing for Thalassemia, it is looking for an abnormal hemoglobin gene. In the martial art films several actress have even established their entire reputations as action stars. The action heroes were also held up as the idea of masculinity with all of its inherent characteristics of control, privilege and agency. This is actually adopted from the western archetypes of male action hero which emphasize connotations of physical presence and prominent body musculature. • 53. Content-Based Image Retrieval Case Study INTRODUCTION Pertaining to the tremendous growth of digitalization in the past decade in areas of healthcare, administration, art commerce and academia, large collections of digital images have been created. Many of these collections are the product of digitizing existing collections of analog photographs, diagrams, drawings, paintings, and prints with which the problem of managing large databases and its repossession based on user specifications came into the picture. Due to the incredible rate, at which the size of image and video collection is growing, it is eminent to skip the subjective task of manual keyword indexing and to pave the way for the ambitious and challenging idea of the contend based description of imagery. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this paper, we will be looking at different methods for comparative study of the state of the art image processing techniques stated below (K means clustering, wavelet transforms and DiVI approach) which consider attributes like color, shape and texture for image retrieval which helps us in solving the problem of managing image databases easier. Figure 1: Traditional Content Based Image Retrieval System LITERATURE SURVEY DiVI Diversity and Visually Interactive Method Aimed at reducing the semantic gap in CBIR systems, the Diversity and Visually Interactive (DiVI) method [2] combines diversity and visual data mining techniques to improve retrieval efficiency. It includes the user into the processing path, to interactively distort the search space in the image description process, forcing the elements that he/she considers more similar to be closer and elements considered less similar to be farther in the search space. Thus, DiVI allows inducing in the space the intuitive perception of similarity lacking in the numeric evaluation of the distance function. It also allows the user to express his/her diversity preference for a query, reducing the effort to analyze the result when too many similar images are returned.
