1. Shirk in Ruboobeeyah
Tawheed Ruboobeeyah
Two Categories
1. Shirk by Association
2. Shirk by Negation
1.1 Shirk by Association
Someone who believes in God but –
believes that there are other lesser gods
• Spirits
• Mortals
• Heavenly bodies
• Earthly objects
which share Allah’s dominion
• Hinduism
• Christianity
• Zoroastrians
• Yoruba
• Zulus
1.2 Shirk by Negation
Denying the existence of God
Atheism deny existence of God
The believe in evolution and the big bang
European Philosophers
• Philosophical theories - ‘death of God Philosophy’
• Theorise with no evidence
• Based on their own thinking and other theories
Famous Philosophers
• Philip Mainlander (1841-1876)
• Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)
• Jean Paul Sartre
• Darwin (1882)
• Karl Marx (Present)
• Baruch Spinoza
2. Shirk in Asmaa Was-Sifaat
Tawheed Asmaa Was-Sifaat
Five Categories of Tawheed Asmaa Was-Sifaat
1. Add Meaning to Allah’s Names and Attributes
2. Make up Names for Allah
3. Human’s Attributes to Allah
4. Allah’s Attributes Not Given to Humans
5. Not Giving Allah’s Names to Human
Two Categories
1. Shirk by Humanisation
2. Shirk by Deification
2.1 Shirk by Humanisation
When man gives Allah the attributes of human beings
and animals
Hindus and Buddhists worship
idols which look like men
God has features of human beings i.e. legs, arms, body etc, in the same
form as a man
Christians also believe that Jesus
is God incarnate
That the creator became the created
2.2 Shirk by Deification
When man gives created beings the names and
attributes of Allah (SWT)
Give a man the name of Allah
and assign that unique attribute
to him
Muslims Sects
Give their Imaams/Leaders divine attributes:
• Infallible
• They have knowledge of the past, future and unseen
• They can change destiny
3. Shirk in Al-Ebaadah
Tawheed Al-Ebaadah
Tawheed Al-Ebaadah
We only pray to Allah
We only make dua to Allah
And don’t call out to anyone else
Two Categories
1. Major Shirk
2. Minro Shirk
• “You alone do we worship, and You alone do we seek
help.” (2:5)
• “I did not create the Jinn and Mankind except for My
worship.” (51:56)
• “Verily, We have sent to every nation a messenger
(saying), ‘Worship Allah and avoid false gods.’” (16:36)
3.1 Major Shirk
Ultimate sin as it takes away the whole purpose of our creation
To direct away any form of worship
away from Allah on to something
else
(a created being or object)
Idols
All Prophets have been sent down to mankind to
deter people from this and start worshipping God
again
‘Surely we have sent to every nation a messenger saying, worship Allah and avoid taaghoot (false gods).’ (16:36)
N.B. Taghoot means to worship anything else besides or instead of Allah (SWT).
Christians?
Loving Allah is Worship
Loving Allah is
Total Obedience
Taking A Woman As A God
Taking Money As A God
‘Have you not seen the one who
takes his desires as his god?’
(25:43)
Major Shirk is The Ultimate
Sin – Negates Other deeds
3.2 Minor Shirk
Minor Shirk is Ar-Riyaa (Showing Off)
“The thing I fear for you the
most is Shirk al-Asghar”
“Oh, Messenger of Allah, what is
minor shirk?”
“Ar-Riyaa (Showing off)”
Secret Shirk
‘Riyaa is the practice of
preferring any of the various
forms of worship in order to be
seen and praised by people.’
‘Oh Allah, we seek refuge in you
from knowingly committing
shirk with you and we ask you
for forgiveness for what we do
not know about.’
The Prophet (SAW) describes shirk, more hidden than a creeping of ant
Fundamentals of Tawheed
• Charms
• Omens
• Fortune Telling
• Astrology – including horoscopes
• Magic
