The Uruguayan shipbuilding industry has experienced growth in recent years, with invoicing exceeding $20 million annually and new domestic and international investments. In 2007, the Uruguayan Shipbuilding Industry Cluster Association was formed with support from the government and private sector to increase competitiveness. In 2010, the association signed an agreement to develop a South Atlantic Shipbuilding Industrial Pole near Montevideo to support cluster members and attract new investors. The pole is expected to strengthen Uruguay's shipbuilding industry and capitalize on the growing port activity and regional shipping demand.
