Key Takeaways
Objectives: Deliver what Visio envisions to enable - Enhance productivity by working visually.
Visio’s vision for productivity is straightforward: fuel the culture and capability of working visually.
Why visually? Research from MIT this year shows that the human brain can process images in as little as 13 milliseconds. When it comes to communication, visuals are just easier to consume: fact. Communicating complex business artifacts visually helps employees grasp them easily and be more productive and better aligned. It also helps increase compliance as informed employees are more likely to adhere to policies associated with various business processes.
With Visio, we think about productivity as empowering individuals to create different types of diagrams, to collaborate on processes and to communicate one version of truth for broader consumption. It’s a one-stop solution that meets all enterprise needs for diagramming - working visually for everyone.
Creation
Visio is like a Swiss Army knife. It has 70 out of box professional templates and 250,000 shapes in its content ecosystem for anyone to visualize anything, easily and quickly. Visio turns ideas and data into shareable and dynamic diagrams. Everything from brainstorming, process mapping, network topologies, rack diagrams, floor plans, maps, SharePoint Workflow, engineering, even Six Sigma and BPMN. If we can envision it, we can draw it in Visio. Ultimately, Visio nurtures a habit of working visually within each individual.
Additionally, we can surface live data in Visio diagrams. Users don’t have to go back and forth to update data in their diagrams. Once diagrams are linked with data, you can light up a variety of experiences e.g. have a real-time distribution chain monitoring dashboard, accurate visualization of office layout with occupancy or maintenance details, etc..
Collaboration
Modern diagramming is a collaborative process to capture contributions from various stakeholders and get earlier buy-in to achieve faster completion. In the world of rapid innovation, grassroots contributions on ideas visually is key to ride the change and proactively innovate.
First and foremost, as Visio covers a breadth of domains and functional needs, it helps bring people across the organization together using the same language: visual. Take business process modeling as an example, Visio provides one platform for diagram creation and process automation and brings a lot of synergies into the profession, enabling IT and Business collaboration.
Secondly, our collaboration features helps streamline teamwork and reduce risk of error by allowing two or more people to work and comment on the same diagram in a single file at the same time.
For the new Visio, we also enabled Information Rights Management, Data Loss Prevention, and Multifactor Authentication for Visio diagrams, so that during collaboration, teams don’t have to worry about security and compliance.
Communication
Typically, a user doesn’t create a diagram for his individual use but to share it with his broader team, whole organization or with customers and external partners. Once a diagram is finalized, it serves as one version of truth to guide organization-wide communications for everyone. For example, HR department can use it to communicate the on-boarding process, or an insurance company might use it to communicate the reimbursement process on their website and users can access the same when they are telecommuting: from any device on the go.
We make the sharing experience really easy through OneDrive, emails, Lync or through browser (with Office 365).
Visio Services (included in Office 365 E3 SKU) in SharePoint online make Visio accessible via a variety of browsers and therefore available on any type of devices. Imagine various processes you have in the company ranging from IT change request, purchase orders, invoicing, quarterly or annual reporting etc. etc. , you can visualize these using Visio and make it available to the broader workforce through Visio Services.
Visualized communication helps get the message through efficiently and keep the whole organization always informed with the right information or processes.
In short, Visio fuels ‘Work visually’ and helps organizations to empower ideation, collaborate on processes, and communicate efficiently.
Millions of users and thousands of organizations have adopted ‘work visually’.
