William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and had three children, though his son Hamnet died in 1596. Shakespeare had a mysterious period from 1585-1592 where no records exist, but he likely worked as an actor and playwright in London. He was a managing partner of the Lord Chamberlain's Men theatrical company, writing plays that captured a wide range of human emotions. Shakespeare died in 1616 at the age of 52 and was buried in Stratford-upon-Avon.
