2. Introduction
Since 2015, Rebecca Gaskin Gain has served as a principal at utilities software and
energy advisory company Nexant, with offices in San Francisco and Washington, DC.
Rebecca Gaskin Gain contributes to Nexant's energy advisory activities to improve
energy sector policies, infrastructure, financing and access to affordable electricity,
as Nexant forms partnerships with key stakeholders to build energy distribution
networks of the future.
Late last year, Nexant and Smarter Grid Solutions (SGS) began rolling out the next
phase of their joint initiative, Distributed Energy Resource Management System
(DERMS). The project aims to provide a framework for the managing of complex
distribution and transmission infrastructures. SGS works with networks at the control
level, while Nexant lends its software resources through API integration, which
provides topology models, forecasting, and power flow services.
Nexant CEO John Gustafson said the partnership will lead to innovative solutions that
will help lessen the divide between system operators and utility consumers. SGS
chief technology officer Bob Currie added that the work is focused on efficiency and
scalability for both large and small networks.
