The document presents an energy-aware strategy for data forwarding in the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, introducing a simple and efficient routing technique aided by a Software-Defined Networking (SDN) controller. This approach helps manage energy consumption among heterogeneous IoT nodes by ensuring that only nodes with adequate energy participate in communication, thereby enhancing overall network performance. Simulation results indicate the proposed protocol outperforms the existing AODV routing technique in terms of packet delivery rate, throughput, and end-to-end delay.
