1) Life on Earth originated from panspermia - the hypothesis that life came to Earth via comets or meteorites carrying organic material and bacterial spores from another planet or location in space.
2) The first living organism to reach Earth was a bacterium called Bacillus evanicus, or the "Bacillus of Eve".

This document discusses signal detection and classification techniques in cognitive radio systems. It begins with an introduction to cognitive radio and the importance of spectrum sensing. It then reviews several existing spectrum sensing techniques, including matched filter detection and energy detection. The key focus is on cyclostationary feature detection, which exploits the periodicities in signal statistics. The document proposes combining cyclostationary analysis with support vector machines for signal detection and classification in cognitive radios. It describes selecting spectral coherence characteristic parameters and choosing the optimal kernel and parameters for the support vector machine classifier. Performance analysis is provided over Gaussian and IEEE 802.22 WRAN channels. The proposed approach is found to be more effective than other classifiers like binary decision trees and multilayer perceptrons,

Looking at the economics of happiness is an interesting way to provide a broader concept of wealth. It gives insight on relative utility that does not depend exclusively on income as mediated by individual choices or preferences within monetary budget constraints but also considers non monetary factors. Recent economic studies on happiness or subjective well being, most in developing countries, give us some insight on what contributes to individual’s satisfaction with their lives. Some studies in developed countries also found that within countries, a higher level income contributes to higher levels of reported well being. Unfortunately, economic studies on happiness in developing countries, including Indonesia, are limited because of data limitations. Therefore, this paper analyzes the determinants of subjective well being in Indonesia to assess whether there is positive association between individual wealth and happiness. Using the Indonesia Family Life Survey Data Set, logistic regression analysis is used to identify sources of happiness from both economic and non- economic variables.

In late 2009 a discussion was posted on the LinkedIn Knowledge Management Experts group that asked the question:
If the term "KM" could get a do-over what would you call the discipline?
This sparked a lively discussion with 295 comments submitted by approximately 75 KM professionals. This paper provides a fascinating look at the discussion, the "new" KM terms, useful KM links, and the results of a survey discussing the future of KM.
Enjoy!

Newark Sustainability Action Plan_2013 01 02 FOR WEB 100 dpiElizabeth Reynoso
The document introduces Newark's first Sustainability Action Plan. It was developed over five years through a partnership between residents and municipal employees. The plan aims to move Newark toward a future that is healthy, green, and vibrant. It outlines projects to expand urban farming, reduce energy bills, plant more trees, and address environmental and social challenges like climate change and its disproportionate impacts on vulnerable residents. The Mayor thanks all who helped create the plan and invites residents to get involved to build a sustainable urban environment.
This document reviews different approaches to valuing corporate brands. It presents a case study valuing the brand of The South African Gold Coin Exchange using multiple models. Interviews were conducted with 12 senior managers. The brand value calculated varied significantly depending on the model used. The research shows that different valuation models are more appropriate depending on management's objectives. Managers are often unsure which model to use for brand valuation due to the various alternatives. Guidance is provided for selecting an appropriate model.

TAKE FLIGHT
Small moments at Singapore American School put Alex Fortmann in front of the big screen. Thanks
to inspiring middle school film teacher David Hevey, Fortmann picked up a camera for the first time
at age 13 and discovered a passion for filmmaking. Eventually, he used his skills to write the script,
create the score, and shoot the footage for “Flight.” The short film won film-festival awards and, along
with his 4.15 GPA, served as his ticket to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Fortmann has
always been one to reach for the stars, but Singapore American School helped him take flight.

The Early Years
A port city situated at the heart of a well-deȴned maritime trade route, Singapore has
long been a geographically strategic location for businesses to establish operations in
Southeast Asia. In ΄ΆΊ, the United States recogni]ed the importance of the growing
port of Singapore and named Joseph Balestier as its ȴrst Consul to Singapore. By ΄Ό΄Ί,
enough Americans resided here that a small group came together to provide support
for fellow countrymen in Singapore. This informal network grew into the American
Association of Singapore and provided a point of contact for the community, helping
Americans and American businesses better understand the local environment.
