Sexual harassment can take two forms: quid pro quo, where a person in authority makes unwelcome sexual advances or requests in exchange for employment benefits; and hostile work environment, where unwelcome sexual misconduct substantially interferes with work performance or creates a hostile environment. Sexual harassment includes physical, verbal, and visual misconduct such as unwanted touching, sexual comments or jokes, and displaying sexual materials. Employers should prevent harassment by developing anti-harassment policies, training employees, investigating complaints, disciplining offenders, and monitoring the workplace to eliminate discriminatory behavior.
