Session 2: Final idea
‘The Boy That Cried Wolf’
Theorist Propp:
From Propps theory there are 7 main
characters, and from those 7 we used the Narrative structure
Antagonist/Villain : We will be following the
known as Hermione Wolfgang. features of a linear narrative
False Hero: using the 5 stage narrative.
The False hero will also be the protagonist However, we have subverted
which is essential for the horror genre, as the the conventional aspect of the
audience must see the binary opposites come narrative structure by leaving
head to head. the play on a cliff hanger at
Although Harry is the ‘False Hero’ he does not the climax. Removing the

protagonist is usually of a good moral character. to come.
However, Harry’s lies and treatment of others
rejects him of having the good moral persona
that is attached to the ideal protagonist.
                                                    Background to
  Characters
   Antagonist/Villain:
  Hermione Wolfgang.
                                                    our final idea
The use of her surname gives a
  reference to the wolf. Therefore,
Identifying to the audience that she is
the villain and is symbolic of the wolf
from the fable ‘The boy that cried
  wolf’.
The boy Harry is similiar to the boy Message
named Peter in the fable as he lies The significance of the message is very similar to the
three times but as the narrative fable, that you should not tell lies because they are
develops he tells the truth about the harmful and the clique phrase about karma; what goes
dangers of the villain but nobody around comes around.
believes him. Also, apart from telling Theses two specific messages illustrate what evidently
the lies he is also a bully which could happens but they can relate to our audience because it
also be presented to the audience as applies the world and what actually happens in the real
him being an enemy to himself for his world.
  indecent behaviour and treatment
  towards people.
5 Stage Narrative
• Exposition:
                (Initial idea for narrative)
Split screen of the boy Harry and the girl Hermione getting ready in the morning and
leaving their house and getting on public transport
• Development:
At college
everyone rushes into the classroom, then the boys and harry talk briefly then Hermione
comes in and the focus is on her and then she goes and sits next to harry. Then she
introduces herself as the new girl. Then harry introduces himself to her however she
does not really remake his introduction.
• Complication:
On the way out of class he approaches her trying to ask her out but she rejects him and
embarrasses him. Then he goes to speak to his friend talking about how he
embarrassed Hermione which she over hears. All of sudden as he walks down the
corridor to he next lesson and then the lights turn off and the Hermione goes past
him but does not realise only seeing a glimpse of her in the dark.
• Climax:
On the way home he tells his friend about the Hermione continuously lying saying she is
weird and crazy and he embarrassed her. Harry then decides to take a short cut and
walk through the woods when Hermione gets revenge on harry and assault.
Making changes to the narrative
We made changes to the narrative because as a group we felt that the narrative was too complicated, and decided that we
would make the story more simplistic in order to keep the audience in suspense with the element of horror being illustrated
towards the ending as an alternative to all the way through. Consistently emphasising the shock value for the audience will
become tedious as an opposed to using the fear of the unknown, which is valued more for the horror audience.
Exposition:
Split screen of the protagonist Harry and antagonist Hermione getting ready in the morning and leaving their house and getting
       on public transport
Changes made: Firstly harry will be getting ready and leaving his house and shown getting on public transport, but just before
he gets on the bus he barges someone for no particular reason.
Development:
At college, everyone rushes into the classroom, then the boys and harry talk briefly. Hermione then comes in and the focus is
placed on to her and she goes to sit next to harry. Shortly after this she introduces herself as the new girl. Harry then
introduces himself to her however she does not really make any positive response his introduction.
Changes made: As everyone rushes into the classroom Harry strolls into the classroom late. He starts lying about why he is
late and then he sits down and the teacher asks him for his homework and he takes someone else's homework . Then
Hermione walks in. (the rest of the development is the same)

Complication:
On the way out of class he approaches Hermoine trying to ask her out but she rejects him and embarrasses him. Then he goes
to speak to his friend talking about how he embarrassed Hermione which she over hears. All of sudden, as he walks
down the corridor to the next lesson ,the lights turn off and the Hermione goes past him but he does not realise as he
only sees a glimpse of a shadow in the dark.
Changes made: The complication stays the same except our group has decided to take out the scene when Harry is walking
down the corridor and the the lights turn of as he sees a glimpse of a shadow in the dark. Also, when he gets
embarrassed he pushes some boys around because they laugh at him.
The climax is staying the same however we have decided to have a resolution instead of leaving it at the climax.
Resolution:
After the assault is committed we are left thinking whether Harry is alive or dead . Then the next day we just see a sheet over a
body in a crime scene investigation.

  • 4. Making changes to the narrative We made changes to the narrative because as a group we felt that the narrative was too complicated, and decided that we would make the story more simplistic in order to keep the audience in suspense with the element of horror being illustrated towards the ending as an alternative to all the way through. Consistently emphasising the shock value for the audience will become tedious as an opposed to using the fear of the unknown, which is valued more for the horror audience. Exposition: Split screen of the protagonist Harry and antagonist Hermione getting ready in the morning and leaving their house and getting on public transport Changes made: Firstly harry will be getting ready and leaving his house and shown getting on public transport, but just before he gets on the bus he barges someone for no particular reason. Development: At college, everyone rushes into the classroom, then the boys and harry talk briefly. Hermione then comes in and the focus is placed on to her and she goes to sit next to harry. Shortly after this she introduces herself as the new girl. Harry then introduces himself to her however she does not really make any positive response his introduction. Changes made: As everyone rushes into the classroom Harry strolls into the classroom late. He starts lying about why he is late and then he sits down and the teacher asks him for his homework and he takes someone else's homework . Then Hermione walks in. (the rest of the development is the same) Complication: On the way out of class he approaches Hermoine trying to ask her out but she rejects him and embarrasses him. Then he goes to speak to his friend talking about how he embarrassed Hermione which she over hears. All of sudden, as he walks down the corridor to the next lesson ,the lights turn off and the Hermione goes past him but he does not realise as he only sees a glimpse of a shadow in the dark. Changes made: The complication stays the same except our group has decided to take out the scene when Harry is walking down the corridor and the the lights turn of as he sees a glimpse of a shadow in the dark. Also, when he gets embarrassed he pushes some boys around because they laugh at him. The climax is staying the same however we have decided to have a resolution instead of leaving it at the climax. Resolution: After the assault is committed we are left thinking whether Harry is alive or dead . Then the next day we just see a sheet over a body in a crime scene investigation.
