Quite a few UX designers I have recently talked to slide into the role of the product "owner" or "manager". For many of us this is a gradual process – filling a gap, sometimes temporarily, in the existing management structure. This presentation shares some of my recent experiences and tips.

In large organisations product managers fulfil pivotal strategic roles, deciding which products and features to launch into the right market at the right time. In small and medium sized businesses, the role of the product manager is often not that well defined, or sometimes does not exist at all. User Experience professionals often seem to be a logical choice to fill that gap. But are they?
In this session at Web Expo Prague in September 2014, I talked about his experience of being an accidental product manager, the challenge of managing product vision, strategy and roadmap, what makes product management different from UX design, and how to succeed in your first months of having to fill this role.

This document describes a technique for rapid idea generation that involves both constraining and de-constraining the problem space. It recommends constraining factors like format, time, and tools initially to avoid unnecessary details. Then it suggests de-constraining by removing limitations on technologies, scope, and resources to break out of preconceptions. The technique is demonstrated through warm-up exercises where participants design silly devices and solutions within time limits to get in a creative mindset. They then work in groups on a more serious design task of developing ideas for scheduling video conferences 300 years in the future. Key aspects of individual creativity like curiosity and tolerance for ambiguity are also discussed.
The document discusses time management and provides tips for improving it. It emphasizes the importance of balancing life aspects like family, work, health and personal goals. It recommends writing down goals and breaking them into tasks, creating a daily to-do list with priorities, and reviewing the list daily to track progress. Common time wasters like interruptions and procrastination should be minimized. Practicing time management techniques like task lists for a few months can help make it a habit for achieving more in life.
Stem cells can develop into many cell types and may help treat diseases. Therapeutic cloning uses stem cells from cloned embryos to generate patient-matched cells for transplantation without immunorejection. While this research offers medical benefits, it also raises ethical concerns and some argue it undermines human dignity. Views on funding and regulating this research differ, as seen in debates around related bills in the U.S. Congress and state legislatures. Public opinion polls show most support therapeutic cloning if it is not tied to embryo destruction.
The document provides guidelines for effectively delivering presentations using a four-step process of plan, prepare, practice, and present. It advises planning by understanding your audience and defining your purpose. Preparation involves establishing a positive mindset, crafting an attention-grabbing opening and memorable close, and supporting key points with evidence. Practice is important for building confidence through rehearsal. When presenting, make a positive first impression, build rapport, hold attention, and close favorably to leave a lasting impression.
Typhoid fever is a life-threatening illness caused by the Salmonella Typhi bacterium. It affects approximately 12.5 million people worldwide each year. The disease is contracted through ingestion of contaminated food or water. Symptoms include sustained high fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation. While antibiotics have reduced the fatality rate to 1-2%, drug-resistant strains are an increasing problem. Vaccines can help prevent infection for those traveling to areas where the disease is common.
